Manoa Falls at a Glance

A trek to the Manoa Falls could be one of your best hikes in the islands of Hawaii. Set out with your bottled water camera, and a lot of insect repellants and you are in for a grand time. Just make sure you get rid of your Havaianas and flip-flops and step in on hiking shoes (some swear water shoes are also okay) because the trek could be muddy and slippery. Manoa valley falls in one of the wettest areas in Oahu, it is a rainforest! Also it would do you good if you pack in your raingear, unless you like getting rained on in a rainforest (which could also be an experience by itself).

The hike to Manoa Falls is not that hard considering that it is just about one and a half mile and you get constant payoff with great sights the whole way. You get through different ecosystems with different vegetations that are a wonder to behold. It would be helpful if you have a walking stick for additional balance (some pick bamboo sticks on the entrance or along the bamboo forest). The constant drone of water from the falls completes the mood of your rainforest adventure.

An ordinary hiker would get to the Manoa Falls in less than an hour to be met by the spectacular sight of water tumbling off a 150-foot cliff towards a small pool. It’s a pity the government restricts taking a dip on the pond. Drinking from it could be dangerous to your health too, due to its impurities.

An easy hike if you're in decent shape. Takes about 40 minutes one-way. The trail had been a bit muddy when I went because it had rained the days before, but seeing the waterfall was a great reward.
