Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, this Kona Brewing Company pub is a very popular meeting spot. Situated on a 2,000 square foot lanai, the outdoor seating is set in the midst of a mini forest of lush tropical vegetation and a smattering of tiki torches strategically located around the area. Part of the lanai roof is shaded by a piece of rusty corrugated tin from an old Holualoa okolehao distillery (Holualoa okolehao is a type of liquor made from ti root). While the Kona Brewing Company is more renowned for its signature beer, its pub house also offers a varied food menu with sufficient capacity to seat up to 175 guests.
Opened since 1998, a noticeable feature throughout the pub is the ohia wood, which is from South Kona. The koa bar is adorned by a huge mahogany log that washed up at Kailua Bay. These materials, along with the rusty tin on the lainai roof, are just some of the local resources that went into creating the pubís unique restaurant. The aim of Kona Brewery Company founders Cameron Healy and Spoon Khalsa (father and son) was to create fresh, high-quality local brews. It was their passion for Hawaii and their wish to protect the islandsí natural environment that led them to the Big Island. Here, they realized their dream and the companyís headquarters remain in Kailua-Kona where the dream began. Over time, the pub evolved to offer food as well as beverages and today it is a popular gathering place for both locals and visitors to the island. Known for its excellent hand spun pizzas and organic salads made from fresh, local ingredients, the aspiration of the pub and restaurantís founders is still evident. The atmosphere is enhanced with live entertainment provided by a host of local musicians every Sunday evening.
As well as great food, the pub offers a selection of fresh draft beers that arenít available elsewhere. With an ambience that is warm and welcoming, the Kona Brewery Company restaurant is open from 11.00am to 10.00pm from Sunday through to Thursday and from 11.00am until 11.00pm on Fridays and Saturdays.††
