The property is beautiful and well maintained. It exceeded all our expectations. Well stocked kitchen. We enjoyed the bird watching and the Couqi frogs added to the tropical ambience. We have recommended this VRBO to several of our friends.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Clean, comfortable stay for our week on the island. Enjoyed the nightly frog serenade from the lovely porch, as well as birds, giant snails, and geckos during the day. Close to Hilo and other east side attractions, and not too bad a drive to Volcanoes National Park, Kona, etc. Locally, we recommend brunch at Countryside Cafe (Kea’au), sunsets/sunrises at Maku’u Point, and making the somewhat treacherous hike to Ha’ena/Shipman Beach for swimming and sea turtles.

It was hot . The home was beautiful but was completely closed up upon arrival and was about 90 degrees inside . It was hard to sleep . They had AC units but they didn’t work. I would suggest fixing them instead of removing them as the landlord said they would be doing . Location is beautiful and close to shipman beach. Hilo is also close . Overall 9/10 if they just fix the ac it will be perfect 10/10 :)

It is a beautiful house situated in paradisal surrounding. We enjoyed our stay there and had everything we needed. Pros: 1. Nice size house with 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. 2. Great to sit in the front porch and enjoy the sounds of the birds and the balmy sea breeze. 3. It is in a secluded neighborhood which is very quiet. 4. There are beaches close by - within 5 minutes drive. Although they are not suitable for swimming. It is a great place to watch sunrise. Cons: 1. There is no air conditioning in the house. There are 2 wall mounted units but neither of them work. To be fair the listing does not say there is a/c. So it can get pretty hot inside the house despite having several ceiling and pedestal fans. We found the outside of the house to be more pleasant in terms of temperature than the inside. 2. There are no restaurants or shopping close by. The nearest town is about 15 minutes drive. 3. The management company seems to be out of touch with the property. Some of the instructions they gave are outdated. Overall a great place to stay. Especially if you have a larger party size. The place is very clean and has all the modern conveniences.

We stayed for four nights. Property was as advertised and we were comfortable there. Location is cool and rural. Feels like you are in a jungle. Frogs at night very loud, but part of the charm. Kids enjoyed! Lots of rain, as we expected staying on Hilo side. I had one less than desirable encounter with a dog while out running in the neighborhood.

Our stay at the Coqui Shack was wonderful. It was a nice quiet location tucked away in a lush paradise yet still close enough to town so that shopping and restaurants were within easy reach. My wife enjoyed feeding the birds every day, so that was a nice touch. We also made use of the chairs and ice chest which really came in handy during our adventures on the Big Island.

We stayed at the coqui shack for 6 wonderful nights. The house is very well appointed, great kitchen, beach gear, air conditioning and a lovely lanai to enjoy morning coffee and evening drinks. The property felt extremely safe and the manager was super responsive. We had no issues. The gift of beer, chocolate and local chips made us feel very welcome. The great board games enabled us to have a few game nights all together instead of having the teenagers glued to their phones, so a gigantic PLUS! Thank you !

The home is small but accommodating. We were furnished with a brand new gas grill and had satellite TV and AC which were a plus as we work outside and the cool nights were a plus to the humidity we deal with day to day. I would stay here again. While we were here to work, the home was stocked with games and puzzles and lots to do and we did use the chess board a few times which was a nice break. I wish we had an extension cord for the lights outside as we did hang out on the porch for our pau hanas after work and those would have been nice to use.
