'Hale 'O Imi Loa' (Hawaiian for 'House of Christopher', and named after our son Chris) is located in a quiet, remarkably beautiful residential area of Princeville, in a charming cul-de-sac with a view of Makana Mountain, renowned for the 'Bali Hai' rock, recognized in dozens of Hollywood movies. If peace and quiet is your thing, this is the place for you. Best described as modest, cozy, quiet, and cottage-like. Access (either through hiking, walking, or driving) to major attractions is literally minutes away: island helicopter tours, horseback riding, golfing, zipping, scuba diving, beaches

Privacy and quiet are the hallmarks of this home, and is a major reason they decided to own it. Staying here has more of a 'this is what it feels like to live in Hawaii' quality and less like being surrounded by hustle and bustle. The property is very child-friendly, has a variety of huge palm trees, and numerous varieties of flora and fauna. The swishing of palm trees and the soft sound of occasional showers adds to a truly unique tropical experience. Tables and chairs in both front and back yards (grass in the backyard, red bricked patio in the front) invite breakfast, dinner, relaxation.

There is a park behind this home and property where you can take long walks and enjoy jogging and running. This is a wonderful place to enjoy the great outdoors and children and grandchildren can play and have fun too. There are tables in both the front and back yards as well as one by the BBQ for your convenience while grilling. Youngsters (and youngsters at heart) just love to play ball in the wide open space. You will certainly appreciate the convenience of the lovely Hawaiian-style fully curtained garden shower just off the lanai. It's great for rinsing off after coming home from the beach.

We visited Kauai in January so the weather was iffy. Rain and strong winds churned the ocean into large swells. Beautiful and majestic, the power of the ocean was on full display. We hiked to some tide pools off the coastal walkway, very interesting. The flowers and fauna are beautiful around every turn. My friend is a horticulturist, so we visited the McBryde Gardens, a wonderful garden conducting research on native plants.

Bedrooms and bathroom not bad. Loved the Lanai but the kitchen and living area need a deep clean. Torn, stained upholstery on a chair, stained rug, dirty couch, dirty pillows. Kitchen cabinets are beat up as well as the range.

We’ll depending on what your looking for this may be the place for you. I chose this place because I was in a time crunch and inventory was low. If I could do it all over again, it would be a hard pass. Though the price was reasonable, there was aspects of the house that I really didn’t like. Like how run down and a bit dingy it all was. The place could use some serious updating. The wicker furniture in the living room was none too pleasant or comfortable. The full-size beds were a bit too small for my wife and I as well. Unfortunately because of all the roosters on the property we had to close all the windows at night to get any sleep and instead listen to creaking of the ceiling fan in the bedroom. I’ve been to Kauai a few times and this was by far the loudest I’ve heard the roosters. Last but not least was the smell outside at certain times during the day. The place smelled like a chicken coop because of all the chickens living on the property. The neighborhood on the other hand was very nice and there was a beautiful park and golf course within walking distance.
