This small man-made cove has a pretty white-sand beach. The sandy ocean bottom within the cove is ideal for small children. The cove is surrounded by lava rocks which protect the nearshore waters from waves and currents. There are some palm trees on the beach which provide shade, and the beach is easily accessible via a 5-minute walk on a paved path. The beach closes a half hour after sunset.

If you are looking for a beach to bring the entire family, this is the place. Easy entry into the water with gentle waves. Picture perfect beach with no crowds.

Location, Parking and Directions

Kikaua Beach is located near Aina Kaha Place in Kailua-Kona, HI 96740, on the Big Island's west coast. From Kailua-Kona, drive north on Highway 19 for about 14 miles and turn left at Kukio Nui Drive near mile marker 87. Press the call button at the Palena Aina gate and request a beach access pass. After receiving the pass, follow the road to the beach parking lot, then walk about five minutes on the paved path to the beach.
