The Downstairs unit has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths with a living room and full kitchen. The unit comfortably sleeps 4 but can accommodate up to 6 for an additional fee. There is a private Sun Deck with a spectacular view of the bay and a great place to enjoy meals and/or an evening sunset. The property has a its own kayak launch with safe channel access to the Bay. Kayaks are available for your use which allows you access to the entire bay and some of the best snorkeling in all of Hawaii. There is also an outdoor shower and a boat house full of ocean accessories. As you paddle across the bay, it is not uncommon to see spinner dolphins swimming along side people snorkeling. In the winter months you may even see whales breaching as well. You will not soon forget your Lawai’a experience.

My family just recently spent a week's vacation at the both the upstairs and downstairs at Lawai'a Sea Lodge. We had a total of 9 people between the two units, including three teenagers, with 6 of us upstairs and 3 of us downstairs. Lots of room in both units
Both kitchens had plenty of room to do all our cooking. The upstairs patio is where we spent most of our time. The patio has a great view of Kealakekua Bay including being able to see the local spinner dolphins daily in the Bay and the humpback whales that traveled past the Bay in the distance. Bring your binoculars for better viewing of both.
The best part of the units were the many tandem and single kayaks and sup boards with paddles and life jackets that were available for our group to use any time of day. You can snorkel directly from the "back yard" of Lawai'a Sea Lodge as long as the ocean is not too high.
We kayaked and snorkeled every day we were there. Manini Beach is only about a 5-minute walk away for beginner snorkelers.
The units were relatively quiet and the wave noise helps drown out any street noise. Since the house is on a one-way street, there was a only a little bit of traffic. But parking in front of he units can be tight at times.
The beds were all comfortable and the showers were fine with lots of towels for everyone. Overall, will definitely want to come back sometime soon to Lawai'a Sea Lodge.

A lovely older property right on the water. Sound of waves when going to sleep and waking up? Check. Breakfast on the terrace watching the sunrise? Check. Comfortable beds? Check. Access for scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking? Check. Helpful staff ON SITE? Check. We had a wonderful stay and would come back. What a little piece of paradise.

The place is a dream. Nothing fancy, looking for a resort experience? Move away! But if you are looking for true Hawaii picture, view and emotions, this is the place! Jessica is fantastic, always smiling and giving advices. You really feel part of the place. Kayak is a must with dolphin view, relaxing looking at the sunset or having a nice steak with local barbecue. One of our best stay ever!!!

This space is pure heaven. Off the beaten path and everything you could want in Hawaii. Snorkelling is great right in front of the house. Kayaking is a blast. There is a shallow natural lagoon that the kids loved wading in (bring water shoes- lots of lava rocks to get into it). Plenty of snorkel gear, toys, etc to borrow. House is clean and plenty of space. Ceiling height is low especially in showers- we are 6 feet tall and had to kind of squat. Small price to pay. We booked our next stay while we were there.

If you are looking for luxury, then the downstairs is not for you.
However, if you are looking for a place to unwind with incredible views and access to the ocean then you will thoroughly enjoy yourself here. Jessica the property manager is super knowledgeable and helpful. The snorkeling right outside the unit is great, plus you a a short kayak trip from the reef at the captain cook monument. There are a number of kayaks that are licensed for the bay. I would highly recommend this location to anyone.

Positives:
Caretaker Jessa. Amazing person with tons of island knowledge.
Kayaks, snorkels, boogie boards, life vests, grill available for use.
Location next to water, dolphins, captain cook monument, large beds, nearby small trail.
Hot tub nice and relaxing
Negatives:
Low ceilings, basically staying in a furnished basement
Property shared with several other renters. If people are above you, you can hear everything. Especially if you are in the front bedroom and they are partying on the patio above.
No A/c units and it was very hot and sticky every afternoon.
Washer and dryer cost $4 a load and only in quarters. We only brought 2 outfits each for 7 of us so this added up!
Fridge didn't stay cold but surely this was fixed after we left. Our milk and creamer went bad.
Our assigned patio had no cover so when it rained in the evenings we couldn't sit outside but upstairs unit can.

We arrived on the big Island just at the Corona virus pandemic was emerging. The Lawai'a Sea Lodge was the perfect location to shelter in place. It's location on Kealakekua Bay provided a unique opportunity to observe and participate in the wonders of The Hawaiian Islands. A pod of Spinner dolphins that make this bay their home would enchant us each morning during their commute to the sea. Even better, the Kayaks and snorkeling equipment available at the property enabled us to participate in this unique experience. While federal law requires people to keep their distance and not disturb the dolphins and other marine life, the dolphins were less compliant with social distancing. Snorkelers and kayakers seem to attract these magnificent creatures who would surround us. A truly unique and memorable experience. The Sunsets from the property were mesmerizing and the historical attractions within walking or short driving distance fascinating. Donna, the on site property manager only added to our experience. Ever busy she would enchant us with her stories of old Hawaii and entertain us with her ukulele performance, all the while ensuring that our every need was met. We look forward to one day returning to Hawaii to see it's splendors that were off limits during this stay. The Lawai'a Sea Lodge is a perfect home base from which to explore.
