Nani Mau Gardens

Nani Mau Gardens in Hilo features tropical flowers, orchids, palms, fruit trees, garden paths, event spaces and a long east-side garden history.

Its name couldn't have been more appropriate. Nani Mau literally means "forever beautiful." Over 20 acres of lush greenery, exotic flowers and native palms can be found in this tropical garden, with plenty of shade and rest stops for a day of leisurely strolling.

About half the land is filled with various native flowers, some of them found only in Hawaii. The orchid gardens and tropical fruit orchards are some of the biggest draws. The paved pathways wind beautifully, giving you excellent views of the garden from all angles. Along the way, you'll pass an anthurium grove, ginger garden, hibiscus garden, ferns and palms, and a number of small waterfalls.

After hours of exploring, visitors can take a break at the garden restaurant, where a delicious Island Buffet is served every day. This is al-fresco dining at its best: imagine helping yourself to the best local fare while sitting under the shade of rare trees. You can also check out the gift shop near the exit, which offers various Nani Mau logo items and souvenirs.
