Oneloa Beach

Oneloa Beach, also called Ironwoods Beach, is a long Kapalua beach with pale sand, lava-rock points, surf, wind, coastal path views and no lifeguards.

Oneloa Beach, Maui

Oneloa Beach, also known as Ironwoods Beach, is a wide sandy beach backed by resort villas and golf greens on the northwest side of Maui. It is often quieter than some nearby Kapalua beaches. The best area for swimming is on the left, or west, side of the beach. There is a reef at the right, or east, end and in the middle section of the beach, which makes entering the ocean more difficult. On calm days, snorkeling can be good here, especially at the west end of the beach. When the surf is up, rip currents can occur. Bodyboarding and surfing depend on the day's conditions.

The Ironwoods name comes from the nearby Ironwood Lane and the surrounding Kapalua neighborhood, and many visitors use it as the beach's everyday nickname.

How does Oneloa compare with Kapalua Bay?

Kapalua Bay is more protected and cove-like, while Oneloa is longer, wider and more exposed to wind and surf.

What makes Oneloa good for photos?

The long sand, lava-rock points, blue water and open Kapalua shoreline create clean coastal views, especially when morning light hits the beach.

What should visitors know about the Kapalua coastal path nearby?

The coastal path connects several Kapalua shoreline views, so Oneloa can be part of a walk that includes rocky points, resort fronts and neighboring beaches.
