Directions into the building were minimal. We parked in the suggested "self-park" garage and took the little walkway over the street and into the building. We immediately found the elevators and rode up to the 5th floor looking for our unit. Imagine our surprise when our unit number didn't exist on the 5th floor. We finally realized that the parking garage does not connect to our building, but instead, we have to walk through a building and an outdoor bar and some patio area in order to reach our building. After a full day of travel we were tired and a little grumpy by this point. We got to our room and the door code instructions didn't work. We called the local contact number and got a voicemail that was full so we couldn't even leave a message. We tried calling the security number that was also on the check-in instructions but the man who answered did not have a clue and just kept asking me if I was in the building and if I could please come downstairs. We tried the local contact number again and got voicemail full again. Finally, my husband left me and the kids standing in the hall outside our unit and went downstairs to try and figure out how to get into the unit. It was 4:30 on Friday afternoon so I was getting nervous about the local contact being off-duty for the weekend and not being able to get in. I tried calling one more time and actually got an answer. He told me that someone had forgotten to change the code and gave me the code for the previous people and we were finally able to get into our unit. Inside the unit was clean and had a spectacular view out the wall to wall windows on the ocean side. Although the windows did have hanging, vertical blinds to block out some of the BRIGHT sun, I would say about 30% of them were missing so it was very bright in the unit. The walls were all bare - no art or décor at all. There were two twin beds in the livingroom area and my kids said they were comfortable enough but they would have liked to have full blinds to block the light. There is a folding wall that can accordion in/out to provide a little privacy for the twin beds but it was coming apart. We did not pull it all the way out because I didn't want to break it further. There was a king bed in the bedroom area that was also "fine". We did not cook in the unit so I can't speak to the quality or quantity of kitchen items. Great location, close to beach and restaurants.

Do you want to share your space with roaches? If so, this is the place for you. The place looks like the pictures, but it's just not maintained. It's run down and not comfortable. The roaches were the worst part. First night, a roach crawled up the wall behind the couch. Ugh!! It's the busiest week in Hawaii--no other places to go for our family of four! This sucks, but we were there celebrating our 20 year anniversary and the new year--so we made the most of it. The next day, more roaches--running across the floor in the bedroom near our luggage (please don't let any of them come home with us!!), in the kitchen near the small appliances, from behind the kitchen sink on the counter, running across the counter, etc. (no way we can even think about using the kitchen!). Very disappointing. We paid a lot of money for 4 nights. We expected the place to be clean and comfortable. That's not asking too much. We took photos and videos but I can't upload them (email if you want me to share with you: janine.nkosi@gmail.com). I want others to know about our experience, so you can make an informed decision about where to stay on your vacation. If you're looking for something in a great location, that could use some much-needed upgrades on the blinds, etc. and you don't mind roaches, then go for it. Our family has a zero tolerance for pests. Absolutely disgusting. When we look back on our 20 year celebration trip, it really sucks that this will be a part of our memories, but we made the most of it and spent as much time as we could outside of our room.

We really like Illikai, 2nd time staying at the hotel, and1st time specifically in this condo. Very convenient location, we bussed to Waikiki when needed, and it is very close to 2 beaches (5 and 15 minute walks respectively). The sunset views from the patio are incredible. There's also plenty of space for 6 people. Pool is okay. Plenty of bath and beach towels. Cons: In general, the condo was very clean but the floor was dusty, we mopped the place so no big deal. The bathroom in the bedroom had a peculiar smell (like wet laundry), there was no fan to air it out. The blinds fell off very easily and the sliding door panel looked a little raggedy, so we never used it. There was no dust pan or vacuum to help with sand removal. The internet was a little spotty, kept getting disconnected but we had hotspot during downtime.
