Volcanoes Park really nice
From check in to asking for a lost item, communication has been terrible and what you think is a bedroom is actually the living room.To address moldy sponges, no paper towels, and no lighters for the fireplace (it was cold and our only heat source) the host gave us another number to call for all things but booking. The number didn’t work. I asked the after hours plan and got an answer that said I had to wait. The second bedroom is actually the living room. They’ve turned the front entry way into a “bedroom” by putting a door between the entry way and kitchen. To find this place they email you instructions to look for the sign 32 and let you none of the maps work to find it. They could give you a pin or an actual map, but they don’t. And good luck with the sign.. it’s wood and blocked behind a bush. Finally, my 4 year old left his blanket, I reached out and heard nothing. Instead the host gave me a bad customer review. I’ve stayed at many rentals and this was the worry communication, direction and most misleading host I’ve ever experienced.
Very good location for park access, a bit limited for food options nearby, but the local brewpub had excellent food. No real heat so it was a bit chilly in early Oct. Could use some more thorough cleaning but nothing was gross. Did not try the hot tub, it looked a bit murky. Overall the property is showing some age but was comfortable enough and a great location for the park.
We loved staying in this beautiful A-frame cabin. The grounds were lovely and peaceful and it was a quick, easy drive into Volcanoes National Park. The host was responsive, and check-in was very easy.
Rented both cabins for my family and I. The cabin was cleaned and stocked well. The yard was great for the kids and the location was quiet and peaceful. Palila had a bigger kitchen and Nene has a bigger bathroom. A screen door on Palila side and sliding glass doors on Nene side were broken and the hot tub was poorly maintained. Other than that, we were really enjoying the property until a man arrived in the middle of our stay unannounced and started unloading supplies and working on the hot tub. I wasn't given any notice of his arrival and when I asked him to come back after we checked out he responded with needing to prep for the next guests and that it was the most convenient time for him. It was extremely uncomfortable and interrupted our access to the space for a few hours.
The property was quiet and enjoyable. We used the hot tub and found the location and ease of access to Volcanoes National Park great for our vacation. Due to what I think was time zone differences, I did have to book the location twice before I was able to get the confirmation.
Good location. Very close to volcano national park, the area around the property is private and beautiful. However, the Property is in need of repair, the back exterior patio door is broken and doesnt lock, there is a hole in the deck near the hottub with caution tape surounding it, loose boards on the step, leaking sink pipes in bathroom, the tv wouldnt turn on and an over all musty smell and feel. I didnt end up staying at the property. I left shortly after check in. I attempted to contact the owner at the contact number given, i left a message and did not recieve a call back.
Cute rustic cabin perfectly situated just outside Volcanoes NP.
Close to park great place to reat after a long day hiking.
Cabin was cute, clean, and right beside the national park enterance. The kids loved the hot tub in the evenings! Owner provided all info needed so check in was easy! There were even fresh flowers decorating the tables inside. Great deal!!
We loved the design and location of this cute cabin. It was super conveniently located near the park entrance and a few good restaurants. Entry was easy and finding it was easy since we pre-located it on the map before we left the rental car agency. Washer and dryer were helpful and the area was pretty.I recommend staying at this adorable cabin but I think it is important to know what to expect. There is no central heat, but there are multiple space heaters. If it is cold, it is advisable to start those immediately upon arrival. We arrived late and were uncomfortable leaving them running at night so it was a cold first night. There was a wood stove with an extra log, but no kindling or newspaper to get it started so we had to scrounge through our belongings to find some materials and burned through a few paper towels. The cabin had a musty/unpleasant smell in the main room which may partially be because it was winter and you can't open up the windows to freshen it up. The carpet could definitely do with a proper cleaning and an area near the stairs smelled suspiciously like urine. Each home has it's own single parking space, but the neighbors need to pull all the way up.I gave this cabin a good rating because there were many wonderful attributes (we didn't have time for the hot tub). Set your expectations like you are "glamping" and embrace nature and the beautiful surroundings. We would definitely stay here again.
Successful 10th birthday weekend for our daughter, mahalo!
Beautiful location overlooking a golf course, with scenic views of nearby volcanos. Short drive to VNP. Definitely a bit chilly in winter, but there are space heaters and plenty of blankets. Cabin is well equipped for cooking.

This is our second time staying at what my daughter calls it the "A" house. We never want to leave this place. Clean, peaceful and really close to the Volcano National Park. Can't wait to go back.
Loved everything about the place, and more importantly the location. Cozy, in nature, plenty of space, super close to the park. My only constructive feedback would be to replace the caulk in the stand-up shower and the sliding back door doesn’t open very well.
Thanks for the cool experience!
Although a wonderful location in Volcano close to the National Park, we were very disappointed to find this rental full of mold. From the walls, to the bathroom, to the bedding, to the plates and utensils, there was an unacceptable amount of mold throughout the property. Another issue we had was the lack of bedding for the sofa beds...there were no mattress protectors or sheets for the 2 sofa beds. We could not get the oven or spa to work. All in all, a disappointing place to stay. We hope the owners get the property thoroughly cleaned so that no future guests need to deal with the mold.
What a dreamy house this was for me. It reminded me of my grandparents lake home in Minnesota. Loved the 65 degree weather too. We would definitely stay here again if we had the chance!
It was pretty much clean where it needed to be clean (bathroom, kitchen, common/sleeping areas). There were cobwebs, dust and debris in the less common areas (patio chairs, wall corners, outdoor table/chairs, jacuzzi, some of the less used kitchen & glasswares).
We loved the fireplace, the loft/bed, the heaters, even the catchment system was excellent too with the pressure and heat being the best we ever had for catchment. The electric blankets were missing the plugs so we only used it as normal blankets. The jacuzzi was very dirty and uninviting. The bottom looked like large rust spots, which turned out to be old leaves that settled and disintegrated. It stirred up and made the water brown. Lots of buds too. But the heater was impressive. It stayed on and hot for the whole vacation. There was no pool so the kids were sad. But they loved the tv room and futons. The dryer was great for us to use before packing. There wasn’t a lot of closet space for our travel hanging systems but we made it work.
Overall, we absolutely loved this place. We got a lot of comments from our pictures from our friends who inquired out it. Thank you Hale Palila!
We loved our stay here. The cabin is definitely that- a cabin nice and quiet, with most anything we could need for our stay, close enough to the volcano national park but away from the busier places when we were done for the day.
We loved our stay! It was rustics, but had everything we needed and was literally minutes outside of the national park. After hours and hours of hiking, we loved coming back to the hot tub!
This cabin was super special and we really enjoyed staying in this unique home.
We would not stay here again. We left a night early because it was an unpleasant stay. We were moved to the Nene instead of the Palila because the water pump had broken and there had been no water to clean Hale Palila. They did give us a refund of the first night and charged us for the Nene instead of Palila which was appreciated. However, both units are in disrepair and have noticeable mildewy/bad odor. Nene was advertised as sleeping 4, but they did not have a full set of clean sheets, or two extra pillows, or enough extra blankets for making up the air mattress. We had to borrow sheets and pillows from Hale Palila that were not folded and we were not sure were clean. The sheets had big stains on them. Although Hale Nene is listed as having a sofa bed that can sleep two, the sofa is not big enough to sleep even one child comfortably. Our kids were offered a stained, dirty, thin futon from the closet or a queen air mattress. We put the air mattress on top of the futon to provide some insulation on the bottom. The entire unit smelled very musty and did not feel clean. The shower did not get hot (only luke warm) and the unit was cold (heated by space heaters) so none of us wanted to take a shower. The hot tub was not available to use because it was filthy upon arrival (leaves) and they started cleaning it at 7pm the night we arrived and it wasn't ready for use on the second night. Our kids woke up often on the air mattress b/c it deflated and they would sink into each other.
When we got in, the place had not been cleaned but nothing was overly dirty, laundering easy and as a result the owner waived our cleaning fee. Overall, I thought the place was a bargain for the price and our family of six fit nicely. Since volcano is higher in elevation, it is colder there than the surrounding areas and the numerous heaters in the house were put to good use!
Great location to visit national Park and spend cozy evenings warming up by the fire.
