This was a lovely home in a great location. Nicely decorated, with beautiful, peaceful views of the forest. It was like staying in a tree house in a fern forest! Only 10 minutes from Volcanoes National Park, which allowed us to view the Kilauea eruption easily. It was an incredible experience and something we'll remember for a lifetime! We were lucky to be so close to the park when we learned about the eruption. After we left the park, the line of cars waiting to get into the park extended for miles - so we consider ourselves very fortunate. The owners provided great information in binders - information about the home (you'll need to spend some time reading) and recommendations on activities and restaurants. We loved Cafe Ono and the Volcano Garden Arts. Rico's Tacos (food truck in Volcano) also had good food. If you have mobility issues this might not be the best choice for you, since you have to carry your luggage up stairs to the home. We highly recommend staying here!
Quite spectacular view of volcano and stars
We were absolutely delighted with Volcano Haven! The house had so much personality and charm - it felt like a hug the moment we walked through the front door! It was super clean and BRIGHT with so much attention to all the details - not to mention a BIG binder with all kind of information for local attractions and tips for visitors. We happened to be there for 4 days of RAIN and cool weather - so made good use of both fireplaces! It would have been a less successful trip if our accommodations had not been so cozy. Thanks to Candice & Richard for making our time at Volcano Haven so memorable :)
A very nice and comfortable place for a couple to relax, explore, and enjoy this part of the Big Island of Hawaii.
The pictures are accurate - this place really does feel like you're staying in a tree house! While there are neighbors, you cannot see them so you feel secluded and in the middle of the rainforest. It feels like it's just you, the morning birds, the nighttime frogs, and lush green surroundings.
The hosts go above and beyond to ensure you have a good stay. They're super responsive via text if needed. They have equipped the kitchen with everything you need including spices and coffee. They provide a comprehensive binder of information about the home and what is available nearby to do, see, eat, shop. They also provide information on hikes and drives in Volcano National Park, conveniently located a short drive away.
One thing that I did not know before visiting the Big Island is that there is a bit of a problem with theft, everywhere. Signs that warn you to not leave valuables in the car have piles of broken window glass next to them. In busy areas, I never worried, but off the beaten path I made sure to bring my stuff with me. The hosts of this property have provided a security system and a small safe to help you feel more secure.
When staying in the Volcano area, if you plan to cook and prepare your own meals, know that grocery shopping is pretty limited. There are two nearby markets with limited supplies. The nearest big store is a 25 min drive, so plan accordingly.
Overall, we enjoyed this charming cabin surrounded by nature and appreciated the hosts' thoughtfulness!

The cottage had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. It was extremely comfortable, clean and quiet. The views of the Ohia trees and ferns outside our windows was beautiful and calming. We hope to visit again!
It was a lovely property to stay at, hidden amongst the rainforest with lots of privacy, yet also close to the Volcanoes National Park. We enjoyed the vegan/vegetarian food options close by as well!
This was a unique property! Felt like a treehouse in the middle of a rainforest. So cozy to cuddle up by the fire and drink hot tea while looking out at the beautiful trees and flowers! Thank you Candice and Richard for the lovely stay!
Very clean, well sized, beautifully located for peace and tranquillity. We loved our stay here.
It was great. Period. Not sure that I can say anything unique that hasn't already been said. There are 4 guest comment books there that rave about the place going back (I think) to 2013. Felt like home. We stayed a month. Hosts were absolutely wonderful. Not a - section of - a wall in the place that doesn't have a window/view to the beautiful lush forest. Better than I expected. Car port is wonderful for loading and unloading. There are stairs to the front door if mobility is a consideration. Two outdoor seating patios. A yard to wander around. Feels like a tree house.
This cottage up in the trees is lovely and secluded, while being located just minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The owners are very responsive and helpful, and provide lots of little extras, like heated towels and fresh local honey. We loved it there!
The setting is beautiful and relaxing, the home is charming and comfortable, and the proximity to the National Park is perfect. It was everything I wanted it to be.
