This was a well appointed, beautiful property. It is close to a wonderful beach. It was peaceful and quiet. Kyla and James were lovely hosts.
The property is accurately described in the listing. The location is remote and quiet. You are still driving distance to restaurants/grocery stores, but this does feel like a private oasis. You are also 5 min drive to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Outstanding. The only flaw is that I can’t live there full-time! The other reviews are spot on: pristine accommodations, stunning nature, super thoughtful hosts. We usually stay in the busier central areas, but I loved (actually preferred) how tucked-away Puako was —a true escape to peace and quiet. Kyla and James are the perfect hosts: immediately available if ever you have a question, and otherwise just the nicest people who make it feel like this awesome house is all yours. That’s the sign of a dream getaway. Thank you, Kyla and James (and sweetest little pups in Hawaii)….. We’ll be back.

James and Kyla were incredible hosts and we absolutely loved the place. It was so thoughtfully curated - every detail made for a more comfortable stay: all lights on dimmer switches, blackout curtains, fans and A/C, all the amenities one could need (towels, umbrella, chairs, fins, snorkels, tupperware, etc). The place was nicely updated and immaculately clean. The nights were quiet and peaceful and the shore access to world class snorkeling was so close! The lanai and its views were heavenly. Would definitely stay again!
We stayed here for a week in March 2025 and had a wonderful time. This place is a great location in a quiet neighborhood next to the ocean. Seems to be a rarity. Easy shoreline access and relaxing lanai where we had breakfast everyday. The house was spotless with nice decor and a great relaxing feel. Located very close to some of the best beaches on the island. Our hosts were very helpful and friendly.
The Puako neighborhood is quiet with great access to a snorkeling reef teaming with wildlife a young turtles. We watched sunsets over the water and thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to the water. Our accommodations were top notch. The bungalow was cool (lots of ceiling fans) and had everything we needed. It’s well setup for a family of 4 or 2 couples and has everything you need to enjoy Hawaii.
We so enjoyed our stay in Puako. The property is beautiful with beach access within steps. We enjoyed watching the sunsets on the beach and from the lanai. Kyla was a great host. Would definitely stay here again!
We loved are stay, great location. The house was super clean and had everything we desired. A full kitchen, comfy beds, a patio, and walking access to the beach. Especially enjoy eating our breakfast and dinners each day on the front patio while listening to the ocean. Thank you.
We thoroughly enjoyed staying here during whale season, helping with volunteer whale counting. The house was great, well furnished, and with extras, spices, snorkel gear, beach towels, beach chairs. It's location in Puako is superb, very quiet. Views of the surf through trees across the street. Views of night sky very special, extra clear. Snorkeling was a little rough, was winter, had snorkeled here in Sept and nicer. But still saw and photographed good variety of fish. There are nice restaurants within easy driving distance, and a little store is within walking distance. The owners are delightful, always checking if all okay. I hope to stay again next year with a friend and made a tentative reservation.

We stayed here for a more secluded area than the nearby resorts but it was also close to the conference I was attending. The host Kyla was awesome and super nice. Everything was very easy and the house had all the amenities we needed. The local beach was great for our young children and a little general store that was close. The food trucks (malasadas, fruit, coffee, at the highway stop wete also good. I'm short it was the perfect place for our trip!
I love this neighborhood. It is quiet, far enough away from resorts to feel homey and local, but close enough to head to resorts for dinners out. The house was super clean and comfortable. We were very happy here. There is a bit of an ocean view from the deck and we spent lots of time there. The host was very helpful and responsive. We are pretty advanced snorkelers and we were able to snorkel from across the street out to the turtle cleaning station. We also signed up for a kayak/snorkel trip from a nearby beach park that was amazing. We could see humpbacks from the beach, which is about a 10 minute walk away. I have lived in Hawaii off and on my whole life and this neighborhood is really special. A mix of fancy and older homes.
Perfect place in paradise for our party of four. From pre-arrival to checkout, our hosts were great. The house had all the beach extras like towels and chairs. We look forward to a future stay.
Beautiful, clean, quiet getaway close to fantastic beaches, the island's best angling spot, and stocked with thoughtful amenities in the kitchen and snorkel gear/beach chairs/etc. A gem of a spot.
What a lovely place to spend a few days! This exceptionally well remodeled unit is beautiful througout. We appreciated the high end appliances in the well stocked kitchen. We cooked most of our meals in the unit. And we appreciated thoughtful touches like night lights throughout, and motion sensitive lights on the external stairs from the car park. The second floor elevation gives some partial ocean views and the sound of waves can be heard whenever you are sitting outside. The large covered lanai had a table for meals and plenty of comfortable chairs. The unit is very close to shoreline access so getting out to the ocean is also easy and we took walks along the ocean tide pools some mornings, and took chairs out for some sunsets. We enjoy the slower pace of Puako (the road thru Puako is a dead end road so the traffic volume is pretty low, as is the road’s noise level). If you are thinking about this unit you won’t be disappointed.
Our hosts, Kyla James, have created a serene retreat in the heart of Puako - one that integrates a refreshingly spare interior with the outside setting (landscape, big lanai). This classic Puako bungalow is thoughtfully remodeled. The hosts have considered everything - from storage to linens to beach towels and chairs, tableware. Beds. Even an impressive first aid kit. I described it as a perfect blank canvas for creating our very own experience. All steps from multiple public beach access points. The hosts themselves are kind and thoughtful. Great communication throughout including notebook inside the home. Mahalo Kyla James. A hui hou … we will return.
What a great spot! I’ve stayed in many rentals in Puako, each one unique. This one has parking below and is perched, with a little view of the ocean, close enough to hear the gentle waves at night. Big lanai with seating and a barbecue.
Surprised my brother with an impromptu trip who was able to reminisce about his past Ironman race while cheering on the athletes this year! Got to spend some quality time with family who live here, who came down and literally brought a mini luau feast for us.
This rental is immaculate, comfortable, tastefully furnished, no clutter and definitely on the list to return to.

We have immediately felt at home at this beautiful, spacious, comfortable and cosy place! It is luxuriously furnished with anything you might need, everything new and clean. Not only an iron, but also an ironing board and clothes horse, a water filter (which saved us a lot of money), a great travel guide and detailed information (extremely helpful) have been provided and we could even use the beach equipment, that brightened up each trip to the beach. From the terrace you can see and hear the sea, a public beach access is only steps away, where you can enjoy the sunset and occasionally even see sea turtles. We have enjoyed the quiet location in Puako and the privacy this apartment is offering. A special thank you to our hosts Kyla and James, we have appreciated your warm hospitality, the prompt and easy communication, and your support (including the early check-in upon arrival). If it would not be that far away we would definately come again!
Puako Kai Hideway was everything we needed and more! Quiet, immaculate, plenty of space, close proximity to all the beautiful beaches (turtle beach and Wailea are the best!) Our visit was special due to family circumstances, and our hosts Kyla and Jamie were so welcoming and accommodating. We plan to return next year and cannot wait! Puako Kai Hideaway is our new home away from home!
