Discover a serene getaway at ʻOhana Hale Puako, a private Big Island vacation rental just 100 steps from the ocean. Nestled in the historic coastal community of Puako, this tranquil retreat offers breathtaking forest and mountain views—including unobstructed vistas of Mauna Kea from the lanai, living room, and dining area.
Wake each morning with a cup of fresh Kona coffee and enjoy the sunrise over Mauna Kea from your grassy backyard. Spend your days snorkeling with sea turtles, exploring ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs nearby, or relaxing under swaying palms with a good book. As night falls, the low-light island environment reveals a spectacular view of the stars, thanks to the Mauna Kea observatories.
The home sleeps four, featuring a king bed in the primary bedroom and two twin beds in the guest room. The fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, washer/dryer, air conditioning, and outdoor BBQ provide all the comforts of home. Local artist Christian Enns' original Big Island artwork brings an authentic island touch to each room.
ʻOhana Hale is ideally located for guests looking to explore Big Island beaches, play championship golf, or dine at the nearby Waikoloa resorts. Excursions from Kawaihae Harbor include sunset sails and Mauna Kea summit tours. A 15-minute drive brings you to Puʻukoholā Heiau National Historic Site, offering insight into Hawaiian heritage. This registered short-term rental (STVR #19-365041) ensures compliance and comfort for a worry-free stay.

My family and I had a wonderful stay. The views of Mauna Kea were breath taking particularly at sunrise. The home had everthying we needed and was perfect for a family of 4. It is also just across the street ocean access.

The location was perfect for our family holiday - close to beaches and outdoor activities and tucked away from hustle and bustle of resort-based communities. The swing in the backyard was a hit with the kids and the view beyond it was amazing. This is a quiet, relaxing and friendly spot steps away from the beach (and turtles), tucked off the road with all the conveniences of being home.

The Ohana Hale is wonderful! A great place to relax and enjoy nature (lots of birds!) House is very private and peaceful, beautifully decorated, great views from the back lanai. Good communication with clear instructions on how to get there, get in, what to do, etc. The house was very clean, well equipped kitchen and comfy couches. There are 2 bedrooms but we only used the master suite. The bed was very comfortable, great closet and bathroom area. Having a washer and dryer was a plus. House has great AC and ceiling fans. Beach access is a short walk across the road. There are also great travel books available and a very informative binder with restaurant suggestions. Would definitely love to stay here again and can see why so people have done so!!

We loved our stay at Sandi and Ken’s place in Puako. It was a quiet beautiful neighborhood with the ocean (and sea turtles) just right across the street and Mauna Kea stargazing in the backyard. Easy to get to get to all the best beaches. Stocked with all the kitchen essentials and beach essentials. We loved our stay and can’t wait to come back!

The first morning waking up just before sunrise in this beautiful setting made me cry happy tears. The view to the northeast of Mauna Loa is truly wonderful.
Beyond the amazing and relaxing surrounding open space and beach, the home is well stocked and cared for. The bed in the primary room is also exceptionally comfortable!

I almost hate to review this house because we'd like to keep it a secret:) It was in a fabulous and quiet location with access to a little sunset watching beach with lots of turtles to view from a safe distance. The yard and swing were highlights and we loved every minute of our trip!!

We loved our stay in Puako. We had two families. We each had a separate end of bedroom and bathroom with the living room and kitchen in the middle. The views out the back was beautiful. It worked out great. Mahalo

Our second stay here. Love the backyard view and the proximity to the beach, as well as fans of Puako in general.

We are repeat guests at this clean, well appointed home. The layout is conducive to a bit of privacy for two couples or friends or families, as the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the common spaces. We love staying in a residential neighborhood with a short walk to incredible snorkeling, a new sunset every evening across the street, and awesome beaches just a half mile away. Spectacular views of Mauna Kea from the private backyard. The hosts are responsive and accommodating. A great place!

This is my third time to stay at this home in Puako. I love it there, in the morning you can see the sunlight coming between Kohala and Mauna Kea, and view the mountains of Mauna Loa and Hualalai as well, weather depending. In the evening I walk across the street and watch the sunset.

I’ve stayed in Puako many times and have sampled a variety of accommodations. This 2 bedroom 2 bathroom “Ohana Hale” suited us perfectly! We enjoyed watching the sunrise over Mauna Kea, and the sunset over the ocean. Access to waterfront was easy and our daily routine included a morning shore walk. From the shore, we witnessed many turtles, both swimming and sunning. We also watched a whale spouting close to shore. We used the a/c only once when we first arrived at night to a closed up house. After that, only fans and open windows were needed. The bonus to that approach is you can hear the waves. I highly recommend and hope to visit again in the future! Mahalo!
