Overall the property is fine. Images are true to picture. Because it’s so close to the ocean, we found that the front porch and front of the house was always coated with sea mist. Just something to be aware of. The main living area always felt damp because of this.
The main reason for our mediocre review though is the host. We booked this in Dec’23 for a June’24 stay. On the day of our arrival, we received a message that the only road in and out of the property was destroyed in a winter storm and would be closed 8am-3pm during the weekdays. Having two teens and a very active vacation planned, that was disappointing but we thought that we would try to work with the inconvenience.
In day 3 of our stay, after having to move our car every day before 8am or lugging our stuff to the car and not being able to return midday easily, we were informed by the construction crew that the water would be off 8am-3pm. That was it for us. No ingress or egress to the house, and now no water. We reached out to the host and he agreed upon a one night refund and we found last minute $$$$ accommodations for the final two nights of our stay.
It’s been now 6 weeks and no refund has been issued and the host is unresponsive. I’m sad about the stay. We spent a great deal of money for this house and the three days we were there were stressful. Damp house, doors that don’t close all of the way so we had flies constantly, and then unable to get to/from the house anytime we wanted. Disappointing.

We encountered a pest issue during our stay; cockroaches were present in numerous areas including the kitchen, shower, and even under the bed sheets. Regrettably, the property owner considers this acceptable, offering a lesson on "island life" and assuming it was our first time on the island. We urge potential renters to carefully consider whether such conditions would be acceptable to them. Unfortunately, we felt compelled to vacate on the 5th day of our 10-night stay due due to this issue. We have yet to receive the promised 1-night refund. The cleanliness left much to be desired with rotten food found in the kitchen drawers and a boarding pass from previous renters lying around. The vacuum cleaner stored in the bedroom closet was full of dust, crumbs, and other debris. Fan blades haven't been wiped inyears. A/C units only in bedrooms, and are accompanied by a note to not run for more than 3h consecutively. The circuit breaker tripped multiple times when using both the floor AC and the wall-mounted AC simultaneously for periods exceeding three hours; notably, there is no AC in the main living area. Relying on the ocean breeze proved insufficient, particularly during daytime hours. Privacy is undermined by a conspicuously placed camera on the back porch, an element absent from the listing photos, which records every time you step out to enjoy the view. Additionally, the adjacent beach is not conducive to swimming, marred by debris and an eyesore of an abandoned structure.

We had an amazing time at David's Beach Cottage. The house is exactly as advertised. David was responsive, extremely helpful and answered any and all of our questions and requests. The location was perfect for our family of four and being on the east side of the island made everything super close and easy.
Thanks again for being such a great host.

Walking into this beach paradise in Anahola was a dream come true. The house and the area are amazing, and it was everything I wanted it to be to celebrate my retirement & 60th birthday with my husband, daughter, son-in-law, and 6-year-old granddaughter. The location is breathtaking, peaceful and the perfect place for our daily dose of vitamin sea.
Listening to the waves lulled us to sleep each night, and waking up to beautiful sunrises every morning started each day fresh with excitement & anticipation of new daily adventures. The lush native plants were a sight to behold; we marveled at their beauty as we walked and drove through the neighborhood and the island. The ocean in front of the house is calm and protected by the reef; we were mindful of being careful of all the wonderful sea life living in the reef.
We also enjoyed watching and listening to the chickens each day. It’s important not to feed them so that they forage for food on their own; it was fun watching mother hens teach their chicks to dig for bugs in the ground…their scurrying and chirps were delightful. We were also fortunate to see a monk seal on the beach…they are protected, and we kept our distance, but thoroughly enjoyed, quietly watching.
The house is beautifully decorated and generously stocked with everything needed for a perfect vacation. There were so many wonderful touches both inside and outside the home. David, the owner, is one of the nicest people we’ve ever met. He gave us many tips, and both he and his house manager, Jillian, went above and beyond to ensure we had a perfect week.
We met many wonderful people, saw amazing beauty, and look forward to visiting again soon. This was a life-changing vacation that will continue to fill our souls. Now, every morning when I’m starting my day sipping my hot tea, I’m brought back to my time sitting on the wonderful lanai of this Beach Home in Paradise, watching the sunrise, and dreaming of my return to Anahola & the beautiful island of Kaua’i.
