Located in a residential stretch of ocean-view Weke Road, this upscale 2,600-square-foot home sits among North Shore estates valued in the tens of millions.
Tucked into a tropical grove, the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house is a quick stroll from the velvet sand and gentle surf of Hanalei Bay. In the distance, look for the serpent-shaped mountain that inspired the song, “Puff the Magic Dragon.” You’re also easy walking distance to Hanalei’s charming downtown. There you’ll find everything from artisan coffee and chocolate, to sophisticated, healthy cuisine, to classic island cocktails at the iconic Tahiti Nui, a favorite local lounge and a location for the George Clooney film, “The Descendants.”
At the home we call Hanalei Makai Hale, you’ll be immersed in beauty, indoors and out. Ascend the stairs to arrive at a custom, beveled-glass door that hints at the treasures inside. The foyer’s impressive glass sea sculptures introduce the carefully curated art collection, including original island paintings, carvings and tile work. The breezy lanais (what some call the covered porches) will beckon you outdoors into comfy chairs for morning Kona coffee, an afternoon lilikoi fruit smoothie or chilled wine at sunset, the better to watch the sky turn vivid crimson.
The completely updated home’s open floor plan encourages an easy flow between the kitchen, living room and dining room. Numerous lanai sliding glass doors and louvered windows welcome cooling trade winds and filtered daylight. Spacious bedrooms on opposite wings provide ample privacy for groups of couples, friends or families of up to six people.
You may need to draw straws to select bedrooms. The master suite has a king-sized bed, walk-in closet, dressing area, adjoining bathroom and access to the backyard lanai. From the front guest room’s king bed and private lanai, you can gaze at the ocean or every-shade-of-green terrain. This place is best described as Heaven on Earth! We enjoyed our stay very much. Kept busy enjoying the sights, Waimea Canyon, Na Pali coast, helicopter ride, hiking,.All very spectacular. For me it was the smaller things that stole my heart such as starting my day with a morning jog on the beach and a dip in the ocean. So glad there were yoga mats at the house. I got to start and end each day with relaxing yoga on the outside balcony while enjoying the views of the mountains and the sounds of the ocean.. We were a family of 6 adults and 1 toddler. The house was large enough and the room and balcony layout gave everyone enough space to spread out. The house also has plenty of sand /beach toys to enjoy. The lack of air conditioning was only a problem if you wanted to nap during the day otherwise the airflow through the house kept things comfortable. I can’t wait to go back!

This house was clean and quiet, had great airflow, was in a great location. And, it had three equally nice bedrooms with beds large enough for couples, which can be very hard to fine. Kauai Vacation Rentals is the best!

Over many years, we have stayed at four different properties on the North Shore. Hanalei Makai Hale is, by far, the best place we have ever stayed! It is so beautiful and comfortable, and the layout of the house is well thought out. We loved the close proximity to Hanalei Bay and we were on the beach and in the 81 degree water every day (in addition to visiting other beaches like Secret Beach and Lumahai Beach). We appreciated the nice collection of beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, and even a surfboard - all in great shape. We also loved the treehouse feel, and the lanai - where we ate every meal, listening to the birds singing and chatting, and the geckos "chirping". Thank you so much for offering such a lovely, inviting, homey hale. We loved and savored every moment. And we will be back!

House occupies the same lot with essentially an older (and less updated) twin. No beach view (as there is for the twin) but a nice mountain view out the back east-facing deck. The plus is that this house is very shaded and stays nice and cool in the evening when the sun beats on the other twin. Otherwise, located 1/2 block from beach access and 5-10 minute walk to heart of Hanalei. All living space on second floor. Modernized kitchen and decor with a very nice large, shaded front deck with a brand new grill on it. Dinners outside every night. The older twin is a very nice place to stay. But except for the view, i liked this unit better.
