I have a LONG list of things that were broken, would not work, shabby sheets annd towels, uncomfortable lumpy beds and pillows…too long a list of bad things for this small area of text! Dirt pile under sofa, cobwebs in corners—yuk !! Slippery shower floors and no safety grab bars anywhere—age 5 or 85, you need shower safety—your caretaker /contact person was no help , knew nothing , could help with nothing ….tv/no cable service—none of the remotes worked the “streaming”—-had to call a tv repair, he could not get it to work either, you will get that bill I paid…older guests, it was imperative that tv worked —-all in all, disappointing— beautiful kitchen and laundry room, that was strange and mostly useless…..description of distances and time to get to Hilo not as advertised——does VRBO ever actually check these listings for truth in advertising? Pictures can be slanted to give better appearance….lanai looking to ocean blocked by heavy trees, not the picture I saw in ad….
The spot is located a short drive from Hilo, the surf beach and Akaka falls is in walking distance. There are convenient shops down the street. The space was very spacious for our group of 5. Fully stocked kitchen front and back patio. Fred was very responsive when we had questions and he took good care of us.
This is a well-designed house, and we liked the location in the small village of Honomou, just 20 minutes north of Hilo. It was very clean and the caretaker, Fred, was a great guy, who lives just next door. The listing photos represented the property very accurately. There were a few minor things that would have made this a perfect rental, such as a non-working ceiling fan in the great room and some uncomfortable mattresses. Nevertheless, this was an overall very good experience. The large, screened-in lanai was especially enjoyable and we loved feeding the koi fish in the front pond. The place is very close to Akaka Falls and an hour from Volcanoes National Park. We especially enjoyed touring the nearby Hamakua Chocolate Farm—what a gem! Would recommend this rental property to other families.
We enjoyed our stay. The house was great with a nice screened porch to enjoy morning coffee and a view of the ocean. It was clean and the koi pond in front was a nice feature. The bedding is lacking. Pillows were flat and towels were basic. We borrowed pillows from our family living nearby.
I really enjoyed staying at this house. I was plenty big for my family of 6 and we enjoyed the lush foliage and koi pond. We also loved the small town of Honomu, which we walked to every morning. My only complaint was the cleanliness. The dining room table setting was dusty and looked like it hadn’t been touched in a month. Also there was animal poop all over inside the house. I thought at first it was rodents, but eventually realized (I think) it was from geckos.
The house was perfect for our family of 4 with 2 teens - they each got their own room! The view from the lanai was amazing. Loved that we were in our own space but not too far from things. Having the kitchen and laundry helped tremendously during our 9 day stay.
We loved the house, the neighborhood, proximity to local attractions. The jetted tub and double shower were a great bonus. Caretaker extremely nice but did not intrude on our privacy in any way.
Spacious house, beautiful view, great location! Shops just down the road were wonderful and proximity to Akaka falls and Hilo was perfect!
