This listing is very misleading and the photos as well. This is the quintessential hovering host property. Within 30 minutes of checking in as we were enjoying a private moment they knocked on the door and requested we turn out the porch light. I will say Sam and Mercury were friendly. The property was very pretty, but the accommodations are outdated and felt like camping at your grandmothers house. Mercury mentioned her boyfriend will be staying and driving around the property on the 4 wheeler. and the shower is completely open with a large uncovered window facing the drive way in, we had to rig up a curtain to cover for a private shower. Towels smelled bad, was very hot in the room with a small fan and instructions to only use on low as the only power available is from solar panels, and they turned all wifi off at 10:00 sharp. Please note only way to get food is to drive into Hana and that takes 30 minutes and honestly not safe once it gets dark, we left after our first night and re-booked back in Kaanapali. I don’t see how this could ever got a 10 review, let alone all of them, highly unlikely. When we communicated that we would be leaving they didn’t even respond to see what issue we had or were having. If your into hippie crystals and the like decor and Asian folklore statuary and decor this may be the place for you. I swear we were awake all night awaiting for someone to creep into the shack and murk us. Felt like we were in a horror movie set or something. Weird!
My husband and I were really looking forward to staying at this property, however the small room connected to the property manager's house was not expected. Mercury and Sam were very welcoming, responsive and caring.. Noise level - we could hear the phone ringing in the house. The neighborhood dogs (maybe 3) barked ALL NIGHT LONG, the birds and insects were not peaceful, definitely not reminiscent of snow white. - lol. Cleanliness - kitchen equipment was outside which also meant bugs and insects crawling all over them. There is a note that says not to eat inside the room to avoid bugs - well there were ants already crawling on the bed immediately upon arrival before we unpacked any items. Comforts - The bed wasn't terrible to sleep in - yes, we had to sleep eventually. We're used to camping - just didn't expect to on our 20 year anniversary. The pillows felt like they were bundled old jeans stuffed in a pillowcase. The bathroom/bedroom wall was 1/4 open with accordion doors - not romantic to hear your partner using it.Inside this cabin, there isn't anywhere to sit other than the bed once you want light and want to escape getting eaten alive by bugs. Brought snacks and food but no where to place them away from bugs other than the small dorm fridge provided outside. The charcoal grill we used was falling apart.Overall, this was an unexpected glamping experience with great hostesses. We left before dawn the next day to return to peace, privacy and romance elsewhere.
Best place we stayed in Maui. Mercury was so nice and gave us a ton of privacy. Great location for exploring. The room, porch and grounds were beautiful. Best I’ve slept in quite a while. Making dinner on the deck and watching the sunset was amazing. Can’t recommend her place enough. If it’s open, you should book it.
Everything was just perfect! We did not realize that it was quite so far from Hana, however! We like to dine out for dinner and it was a long drive in the dark. Totally our fault for not researching in advance. Mercury is fabulous and we would stay with her again. Thank you!
It is a peaceful Oasis!! The National Park is only 2 miles away. There is an amazing hike there. Your kitchen, dining area and relaxation area is all outside on a beautiful deck. I loved fixing my dinner and eating outside while watching a beautiful sunset. To start the day eating breakfast outside and having my tea was fantastic also. I didn't get a chance to bath in the tub outside. But you have that option also.
Lovely room with lovely views
The pictures do not do this location justice! This is truly the perfect place to relax and unwind. We stayed here for our wedding and honeymoon and could not have been happier. The hosts are incredible and you will not be disappointed. If we come back to Maui, we will stay here again!
The place (and the view) was absolutely spectacular, peaceful and quite. Samadhi, the host, was very kind and helpful. We will never forget our time in Hana. Thank you!!!
Beautiful stay on a beautiful property. This one is truly special & the hosts are great. Make sure you check out the stars at night magical! Thank you guys. :)Ryan & Mabel
My husband and I stayed for the last two days of our honeymoon. Relaxing and Romantic!! Hosts were amazing!
What a wonderful time we had!! Gorgeous location. While the deck is connected to Mercury’s home, the stay is super private. Sam and Mercury were generous and kind with provisions, local recommendations and fruit from their property. We were treated with a rainbow the first and last night of our stay! Loved all the critter noises (frogs, birds, etc), sleeping with the open air and waking up to the sunrise. Cooking on the outdoor kitchen was a dream. Great walking distance (1m) to a local farmstand with coffee, fresh fruit and baked treats. Perfect base camp for local trips to National Park, Hamoa Beach, and Black Sands.
A little work to get there but the setting and activities on this side of the island are fabulous and worth several days. Eating option are limited so need to pack in some groceries. Beautiful, relaxing setting!
Sam and Mercury have curated a beautiful oasis in the Hāna rainforest region that anyone would be lucky to stay at. They are so welcoming to all guests and give you all the privacy during your stay but are there to help with anything you could possibly need. The accommodations are too beautiful for pictures and so serene and peaceful. It is a little slice of heaven. The location is also perfect for any adventures you want to go on in the Hāna region. We would happily stay here again in a heartbeat if we got the chance.
Sam and Mercury are wonderful hosts and the property is absolutely breathtaking!
A beautiful property and welcoming host! We enjoyed waking up to a 180 degree of the ocean and beautiful surroundings. It was so peaceful and exactly what we were hoping for in a more relaxed vacation. We did not use the outdoor kitchen so cannot speak to preparing food at the unit attached to the host's house, but wanted to recommend planning ahead for meals given the more remote location (whether you're making yourself with the available camping stove or making a run into town). Tasty food trucks and restaurants in Hana (about a 30 minute drive) and very close to Haleakala National Park. Thank you Mercury and Sam for the delightful stay!
First of all, Sam and Mercury were so friendly and accommodating. Their property is a gem in a reclusive spot that offered all of the privacy that we could have asked for. The outdoor kitchen was perfect for cooking meals. And as someone who cooks often, having sharpened knives is such a small detail that makes a world of difference, and these ladies did not disappoint. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.
Our stay was great! If you are planning on doing the road to Hana this is a great way to take your time doing it without having to drive so much on one day. We stayed a couple nights here and we're able to go to the national park and chill at the property one day and then do the road to Hana backwards on our way back to our other resort. The the property is beautiful and we really enjoyed the amazing sunset. Their is a little kitchen outside on the deck which made making our meals very fun. Mercury, the daughter, lives right next to where you stay. You're place is separate, but is connected to her house. She will be around, but gives you privacy and will just check in on you once or twice . She's very nice and a good host!
We loved staying on this beautiful property. The room had everything we needed and the deck was amazing. The views and property were beautiful. Communication with the owner was great and she was available if needed. The proximity to the national park was wonderful.
Mercury and Sam were the perfect hosts. We could not have imagined a better trip. They made everything so comfortable and welcoming. We had some necessities provided for us (shampoo, eggs, coffee, etc) which was truly amazing to have available since we arrived late on New Year’s Eve and weren’t planning on a supply run until January 2nd (when most stores would be open). All information about our stay was provided to us through the VRBO app before we arrived and in communications within the property. There were many books, games, a television with all the good stations, and fast internet if we ever got bored of looking at the view (ha). We ate avocados, tangerines, and bananas from the property’s trees (after asking if it was ok). There were several animals and birds on and around the property we enjoyed watching. The landscaping Mercury and Sam have on the property is absolutely beautiful! I discovered at least one new plant every day. We witnessed the sunrise every day on one side of the property and the sunset on the other side. They let us know that ensuring we had all the privacy we needed was the top priority. We opted to ask questions about the area and they were more than happy to give us tips, recommendations, and even a few stories about Hāna and Kipahulu. Thank you Mercury and Sam! We are trying to decide on dates to come back
If you are a nature lover, this is the perfect location to unwind! The drive to the property is long, but the most amazing route I have ever driven. Waterfalls, rain forest, beaches, cliffs, ocean, coves, you name, you see it! The property is located in an area without high volume traffic so it’s very peaceful! You have the ocean in front of you and mountains behind you. It’s so relaxing and calm, just what we needed to give us a break from all the tourist action!
Really enjoyed the tropical feel of the place. The plants and birds were fascinating. Even saw some distant whales. Sunset was amazing.
The location is unique and worth the opportunity to be in nature with the ambiance to match it. The indoors is about the size of a standard hotel room. The outdoors is for cooking and relaxing with nice views and under the stars. We enjoyed our stay for the 2 nights we were there.
Property is as advertised. Outdoor kitchen was well stocked for a a “camp” kitchen. Property is lovely. Remote and Quiet. Owners very nice and helpful. Bring everything you need with you. The town is not that far in mileage, but it’s slow because of the winding road and the selection is minimal.
Incredible energy...peaceful and off the beaten path. Beautiful well maintained home and property with complete privacy. Constant ocean breeze and a beautiful view of the ocean both to the south and east! Host was very responsive and helpful. We will keep this location on our "do again" list!
Beautiful Property and a very comfortable suite. This was an amazing stay from the Sunrise to Sunsets and the Horses were a lovely. Thank you so much to Sam and Mercury they have sweet retreat!
Nothing but peace and relaxation. Exactly what we were looking for. At first we wondered how it would be to work with the outdoor kitchen and eating space, but our first meal immediately dispelled any concern and we were thrilled with the arrangement (and the kitchen is very well-equipped). We walked to the fruit stand (much more than only fruit) about a mile away every day and Mercury has a great list of activity suggestions. We would revisit in a heartbeat.
We absolutely loved staying here at Mercury and Samadhi’s peaceful sanctuary. My husband and I stayed here in 2019, and fell in love with it then. It’s a wonderful place to relax and unwind from the craziness of life! Stunning sunrises and sunsets from their property! We highly recommend this VRBO!!
Greatly appreciated the hospitality.
