Oahu's Gold Coast
A prime spot on Oahu is the Gold Coast, located on the foothills of Diamond Head at the eastern end of Waikiki. Several luxury hotels, condos and homes line the coastline here. As you walk up on Diamond Head Road, there are a couple of beach parks (Makalei Beach Park and Diamond Head Beach Park), which are usually much less crowded compared to Waikiki Beach. The swimming conditions aren't the best here because of the offshore reef, but when the ocean is calm, the snorkeling can be good. Here are some photos from today.

RE: Oahu's Gold Coast
Some great shots of Waikiki ! The Bougainvillea is really pretty now isn't it.
Because we are the high plains states, winters here are very long. Hence, we travel mostly during the very cold periods and don't see the Hawaiian Flora that we like but do enjoy seeing it through others eyes. I am the contributor of these photos on a Hawaiian vendors web site: http://www.bossfrog.com/maui-flower-guide.php I have thousands of pics of the flora there but always enjoy your contributions. Digital pics are so much better now than when I first starting taking my pics. |

Yes, the Bougainvillea is really pretty and it is blooming right now. That's nice you have thousands of flora pictures. I know that if I have any questions about a particular flower, you are the person to ask

To see flora in bloom like that, one needs to visit the islands in summer or at least by September. By the time we visit in January'February they are not so glorious. But hey, compared to a snow drift even a dandelion would look good ![]() Well, if I don't know the answer, I have a little book of flower facts from the ABC Stores ![]() |
