Hamakua Coast beaches
Aloha, Everyone
After years of being on the Mainland, I'm wanting to move back to the Islands and, more specifically, to the Big Island. What I've learned is that there are virtually no sand beaches, on the Hamakua Coast. Does anyone know of any beaches, north of Honoka'a to the area makai of Hawi? It doesn't have to be easily accessible. Just 'there'! Mahalo for your kokua. Bob in Tucson you can reach me backchannel namdeerf@aceweb.com |

RE: Hamakua Coast beaches
Aloha Bob and welcome to our forum.
Yes, that's correct. There are no white-sand beaches in this part of the island. Much of that stretch of shoreline also isn't easily accessible. It's covered in forests and it's mountainous and the main highway from Honoka'a to Hawi goes through the center of that part of the Big Island and not along the shoreline. In this section of coastline you'll find Pololu Valley Beach, Waipio Beach and Keokea Beach Park. All three beaches have black sand and pebbles. Here is more info about each of them: https://www.to-hawaii.com/big-island/bea...obeach.php https://www.to-hawaii.com/big-island/bea...ybeach.php https://www.to-hawaii.com/big-island/bea...chpark.php |
