  • Li'l Red Farmhouse in Hawaii

The Lil' Red Farmhouse, with all it's ornate craftsmanship, brings to the senses the feeling of a wood lodge. Earthy colors set a cool tone of tranquility. It is a nature lover's dream. Tropical flowers permeate the surrounding landscape with their sensuous lure. Color abounds. Vanilla orchids can be seen trellising up the native Kukui tree, once used for its oil to light the way. Giant Ohia trees, sometimes in bloom with the red lehua flower, emerge in the background silhouetting the sky. The home features local materials, such as the Ohia tree for structural support, mango wood counter tops in the kitchen, and bamboo railings. The front lanai (porch) has a sculpted fireplace that resembles melted lava rock. The masonry BBQ and wood burning sauna are both made from lava rocks and can be easily accessed from the master bedroom. The house is fully furnished and has two beds, a queen sized futon bed in the master and a king sized futon bed in the loft above the luggage room, which is best accessed by the agile. The main bedroom is mostly windows, giving you a sense of being close to the outdoors. It is connected to a small outdoor, yet private, half bath. The main indoor/outdoor bath has a walk in shower with a decadent claw foot tub for soaking. The farm may offer golden honey from the honey bee, fresh eggs from pesky free range chickens and waddling ducks, organic greens and veggies from the aquaponics garden, and fruits such as papayas, bananas, passion fruit, bread fruit and more from the surrounding landscape.

  • Private Kapoho Home w/Pond; Fall Asleep to the Sound of the Ocean

Kahua Kapoho in sunny Kapoho Vacationland is a clean, classy, private and very well equipped vacation rental home at a great rate. You'll love swimming, floating and soaking in the private tidal pond. Plus you're just a 5 minute walk from the famous Wai Opae tidepools, a protected marine reserve where you'll experience some of the best snorkeling in the entire state. Kahua Kapoho sits on a yard landscaped for tropical privacy. The back yard is dominated by an extra-large private geothermal tidal pond. Photos just don't do the pond justice. The tall, dense trees that surround the property keep it shady, cool and private, but they cast the pond in shadow. Crystal clear and geothermally heated to a luxurious 90 degrees, the pond is filtered constantly by the tide. you'll get a kick out of watching the water raise and lower each day. It's an easy way to tell when the tide is up - handy because that's the best time to grab your snorkel and walk over to the tidepools, where acres of volcanically formed tidepools are home to a mind blowing array of fish and coral. When you arrive at Kahua Kapoho, you'll immediately feel the Aloha. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac, all you'll be able to hear most of the time is the constant of the ocean. You'll head up a flight of stairs and enter onto the large, fully screened lanai. The elevated home catches the trade breezes, and you'll spend a lot of time out on the lanai. There's a sitting area for relaxing and talking story; a dining table for enjoying your meals; even a bed so you can nap or sleep close to nature if the mood strikes. Ceiling fans encourage extra air flow and rope lights add to the ambiance. When you step inside, you'll notice how well kept and bright the house is. Pale laminate bamboo flooring and walls in shades of white and cream add an airy lightness. The owners have decorated the house very thoughtfully in a whimsical, tropical style. The effect is clean and classy, with just a touch of kitsch. The living room provides ample seating. The large TV has satellite reception and a DVD player. There are books with Hawaiian and nature themes, a small selection of music CDs and DVD programs. High speed internet including Wifi and a selection of games and puzzles round out the entertainment options. If you choose vacation rentals because you cook while on vacation, you are going to love this kitchen! There's a flat top electric range, extra-large fridge, dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker. But it doesn't stop there! You'll also find coffee grinder, toaster, bagel toaster, toaster oven, slow cooker, rice cooker, blender, hand mixer and even more. The counters go on for days. There's a deep ceramic double sink and every prep and serving utensil you can imagine. And then there's the quality cookware - much nicer than what one usually finds in a rental property. There are two spacious and nicely furnished bedrooms - one with a king bed and the other with a queen. Both bedrooms offer a full Ensuite bathroom with tile floors and shower over tub. Each has a large closet that includes a set of drawers and hangar rack. Each bedroom also has a sliding glass door that leads out to the small front lanai. Kahua Kapoho provides a full size washer and dryer for your convenience. There are 4 bikes for exploring the area. The outdoor shower is perfect for rinsing off after a dip in the pond or when you return from snorkeling at the tidepools. Kapoho is a quiet community on the eastern tip of the island. It's often referred to as "Sunny Kapoho" as it sees only about a third of the rain that falls in Hilo. You'll have a blast exploring along the Red Road - one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever take. Heading south from Kapoho you'll find Ahalanui Park, aka Millionaires Pond, a park with a lagoon at the ocean's edge that is almost Jacuzzi temperature. 5 minutes past there is Isaac Hale Park at Pohoiki Bay the local hot spot for surfing and boogie boarding, and is home to the boat ramp that the lava viewing boats use. Kehena Black Sand Beach is a 15 minute drive. The Kalapana lava viewing area (Pele willing) is 25 minutes away at the end of the Red Road. Eclectic Pahoa Town is 9 miles from Kapoho, with yummy restaurants, fun shopping , and necessities like convenience and grocery stores, banks, gas, etc. Historic Hilo is 45 minutes from Kapoho, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is about an hour. ********************HAWAII TAX I.D. NO W52008989-01**************************** The Dolphin Cottage is cute, clean & cozy - yet spacious cottage - with a fantastic ocean view! This cottage is located in the beautiful ocean side community of Kehena, which is a coastal strip close to Volcanoes Nat'l Park (50 min), warm ponds, tide pools, and black sand beaches. The Dolphin Cottage is located in a beautiful tropical area and has an ocean view from every room in the house. You get Wi-Fi internet, Direct TV, phone w/ free long distance to the mainland and Canada ! This Dolphin is across the street from a small black sand beach where dolphins are often the name. The beach is down a trail across the street. Please note: the beach is not wheelchair accessible and bathing suit optional. Little Kehena is a prime location (natural Hawaii) and has been the best kept secret on the island for years. It is now becoming more popular and visitors are returning. This area is a major contrast to Kona, which is known as a tourist hot spot. So, if you want a quiet, peaceful place and want to see 'real Hawaii' - this is the place for you! It is also near the active lava flow and Volcanoes National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows just a short distance from us. There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geo-thermically heated ponds, snorkeling w/ spinner dolphins and the whales that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska in winter months. You can often see breaching whales out in the water from our lanai, just several yards off our beautiful coast . Many of my tenants have told me that they were able to swim w/ the spinner dolphins as well - and you can too at the world famous 'Kehena Black Sand Beach' ! This is the place for water lovers and people who want to get away from the crowds of tourists in other parts of the island. From your lanai, you will see coconut trees swaying w/ the trade winds against a blue pacific ocean . We also have the best and safest snorkeling grounds just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools?
