That's pronounced "Ha-La-Va". The letter "W" in Hawaiian is pronounced like the "V" in English. It means to hold and to carry. It's the Hawaiian name for the small valley where the cottage is situated. This beautiful little cottage was custom built by the owners for the express purpose of sharing it with visitors from around the world. The setting is magical. With a Large screened lanai overlooking a flowing stream and tropical gardens, you'll never want to leave its peaceful environment. The fully equipped kitchen comes with everything you'll need for your culinary specialties. From the comfortable queen-sized bed you can step directly out onto the spacious, very private, open sun deck. There you'll find a romantic soaking tub for two, an outdoor shower and comfortable chairs to enjoy your morning coffee or tea. You'll love the seclusion, but this doesn't mean you'll be isolated. The cottage is a quick 5 minute drive away from the small, but charming, towns of Kapaau and Hawi. These two towns are reminiscent of Old Hawaii and filled with lovely galleries, restaurants, a coffee shop in each and hospitable folks. Travel three miles to the east of the cottage and you'll come literally to the end of the road. Here you'll encounter approximately 10 miles of deeply cut lush valleys that were once the breadbasket of the island and home to tens of thousands of Hawaiians. They're unpopulated now, and yours to explore. The first valley, Pololu, is a 15-20 minute hike down from the end of the highway to a spectacular rock-strewn black sand beach. Traveling west from the cottage, a 25-30 minute drive puts you at some of the finest, world class beaches of the South Kohala Coast. The cottage has beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkels, masks and fins for your use. The immediate area has a variety of fun filled activities to enjoy. There are Eco-Adventure tours of the scenic valleys via zip-line or kayaks. Or if you prefer there's also all-terrain vehicle tours. A little farther away there are helicopter tours, horseback riding, golf, etc. We have it all! The owners live just a mile and a half away and are ready to help make your stay perfect. • Luxurious Home On Macadamia Farm With Ocean Views.

This gorgeous house is situated on a 76 acre macadamia nut farm in tropical North Kohala, Hawaii. The views of the ocean and palm trees are calming and relaxing. Wake up in the morning to a beautiful view of the ocean from the master bedroom. Enjoy beautiful rural Kohala with a cup of your favorite kona coffee while enjoying the ocean views. There are various fruit trees around the house and on the estate. You are welcome to stroll through the orchards and taste the fruit that grows on the estate. In the evening you can soak in the Furo style soaking tub or take a steam in the master bathroom shower. All our guests so far have commented how peaceful it is to stay here. They also comment that the photos do not do it justice, that the house is larger and more beautiful than the photos show. The Venetian plaster walls are very lovely. This getaway is ideal for a family reunion or just the two of you. The kitchen is a chefs dream, fully equipped for entertaining with a sub zero refrigerator, 6 burner stove, oven, microwave and double dishwasher. The lanai has a gas barbecue for your use. There are games and books in the house to relax with during the day. The drive to the house takes you right through the Macadamia orchard. We recommend renting an all wheel drive car, you can use a regular sedan, but the road can get muddy if it is raining. The house is 2800 square feet, with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. You might spot the horse that grazes around the orchard as you drive up to the house. If you need more bedrooms, you can rent the small 800 sq.ft. house that is attached via a covered veranda. We call the small house, the Cowboy house. It has 2 bedrooms, full kitchen and a bathroom. If you want to view it, it is listed on VRBO as "Ocean Views, Macadamia Nut Orchard, Near Hawi and Kapaau ". If you book over 6 people, which is the limit for Kamehameha Tropical Farms or the big house, the accounting system will add a fee per guest and I will reserve the second smaller house if available. There are lanais all around the house, with various nooks where you can sit and read a book or just gaze at the ocean. There is a view of the Island of Maui as well as the blue pacific ocean. The house is at 600 foot elevation where the weather is tropical and breezy. You are minutes from downtown Kapaau and Hawi where you will find plenty of shopping possibilities and restaurants. If you enjoy hiking, Pololu Valley is a short drive away. There is a black sand beach to cool your feet in after the hike. You won't want to miss the lively Saturday morning farmers market under the banyan tree in the center of Hawi town. Visit Kapaau to see the King Kamehameha statue. Swim and snorkel at one of the nearby beaches. Listen to live music at local restaurants. Drive to beaches and more. 10 minute to Mahukona (closest snorkeling) 25 minutes to Kawaihae (fishing, whale watching and scuba dive trips) 35 minutes to world class beaches (Mauna Kea & Hapuna) 35 minutes to Kamuela (Waimea) Also close by are farm tours, zip lines, the Kohala ditch adventure, horseback riding, surfing, beaches, hiking and more. • Peaceful Oceanfront Secluded Retreat

Named for the white tailed tropic bird seen along the cliffs, Noio Koha Hale is a beautiful, artistically designed, solar-powered home within walking distance (about two miles) of historic Kapa'au Town on the northern tip of the Big Island. It was lovingly built by its owners on 13 acres of farmland and native plant restoration groves above the dramatic, rose-tan Kohala cliffs. A large lanai (porch) looks out past a border of native plants across the spectacular Alenuihaha channel to the island of Maui. Built from sustainably grown Big Island woods using post and beam construction, this home feels of the 'aina' (land). The house sleeps up to two couples in a private master bedroom/bath and a second small bedroom/writing/meditation room equipped with a full-sized futon bed, writing desk and adjacent half bath. This second sleeping area is separated from the main living area by a beautiful Japanese folding screen. A private outdoor shower with an ocean view features a tree of life mosaic created from volcanic rock carried up from adjacent Kapa'au Gulch. An antique claw foot tub offers a deep and restorative soak after a long day's hike. Guests may prepare and share meals on the huge monkeypod counter, the centerpiece of the living space, built from one of Kohala's largest trees after it fell in a windstorm. Or watch the sunset or sunrise from the lanai, where an antique table seats eight. Noio Koha Hale is a perfect romantic getaway or retreat from the hectic pace of life. Far from traffic sounds or artificial lights, you will fall asleep to the sound of trade winds and ocean swells. The house is surounded by fruit orchards (mango, banana, papaya, and exotics). Sheep graze in the lower pasture. Chickens and ducks roam the orchard. Coastal trails pass along the cliff side, providing access to two gulches and dramatic wave-swept coves. A walk or drive up the hill from the property takes you through rolling pasture lands to a small golf course and into King Kamehameha Park, equipped with a public outdoor swimming pool, ball fields, tennis courts, exercise and weight room, playground and a skate park. Kapa'au Town is a ten minute walk from the park. There you can take yoga classes, enjoy excellent food, and wander through quaint shops and several lovely art galleries. A few miles to the south is Hawi Town, with a locally owned grocery store (which includes a natural food section and local produce), a beautiful new public library, more fine dining and unique shops. A bustling farmer's market opens at first light Saturday mornings. Hiking in the spectacular Pololu Valley is only 20 minutes away. Hiking along with swimming and snorkeling from a historic dock/railroad bed from the sugar cane days is eight miles away at Mahukona. Some of the island's best beaches are only a 30 minute drive but chances are you will want to stay put and soak in the serenity and beauty of Noio Koha Hale.

We do not offer horseback riding, but those interested may choose to take part in one of our equine programs, such as yoga on horseback, horse-to-human natural communication, or our special 'Hawaiian Equine-Assisted Learning' and human growth & development activities. (H.E.A.L.) In any case, everyone will have an opportunity to interact, groom, or just wander through the pastures with the horses. Your accommodations are set close to our horse barns with a first hand view of the arena and paddocks where the horses mingle with a variety of native and non-native birds. Many migratory bird species are spotted here during winter season, and of course, there is no better place to whale watch than from our private oceanfront meadow with a picnic table waiting just for you. We truly believe that the Niulii area of Kohala is just about the most peaceful, spiritual and naturally beautiful place on the Big Island- a perfect sanctuary in the middle of the Pacific in which to reflect, rejuvenate, relax and heal the mind and soul. We love to share all the best that the island has to offer in its therapeutic energy and serenity. Private in-room or outdoor massage can be arranged. Come enjoy a bit of history too. King Kamehameha I was born just nine miles away, and lived and ruled the Kingdom of Hawaii from here. The place names reflect his life and lineage. The property is situated on old sugar cane land, with historic homes and ruins nearby. Relax in the porch's hammocks while reading books provided on Kohala's special history. The ranch is also located minutes from Pololu Valley and Keokea Beach Park, with hiking and sunbathing opportunities. The retreat is well-equipped with a separate kitchen for cooking, featuring the innovative Ninja all-in-one cooktop, fryer, steamer and slow cooker. A gas BBQ is provided on the outdoor lanai dining option. Also a spacious indoor bathroom with waterfall shower, deluxe linens provided, and comfy pillow-topped queen bed with choice of pillow style. Recliner and soft love-seat couch make up the sitting areas. All rooms are appropriately decorated with artworks from local artisans. In the interest of sustainability, our ranch runs on solar power and utilizes a private catchment water tank. Our orchard fruits, pineapples and vegetables are offered to you when in season. Because we are an active, working horse ranch, occasionally other visitors do come out for sessions with our horses. We also need to do regular chores and training daily, but will always notify our guests first, as your peace and comfort is our main priority. We feel that you will truly sense the special power of this ranch land and its majestic surroundings- whether it's in the soft glow of the sunrise or the sunset clouds swirling in their kaleidoscope colors every evening, or the energy of the ever changing ocean surf blown by fresh trade winds. Maybe you will find tranquility in just watching the horses calmly grazing with the brilliance of a rainbow overhead. We want to welcome you to "our little piece of paradise on earth." MAHALO!
