The house and the property were great. It was very well stocked and clean. The host was exceptionally responsive and helpful. We would rate it a 4.5 if that option was available. The only thing keeping it from a full 5 is the lack of A/C.
I absolutely loved my stay here and am looking at a return trip! The house is extremely well stocked. It is quiet, secluded, grounds are beautiful! I enjoyed picking avacados right on the property. It is gated and safe. Bed is comfortable. It does get warm in August and no a/c which is common here. There are fans available. The nights cool off well. Host was available and responsive. I give the overall rating a 5 and look forward to a return stay! Mahalo
Love the jungle feel! The sounds of birds all day and frogs at night. You have all the privacy you want, but are still close to town for any needs and many attractions. Will definitely be coming back! We both said on our last day we didn’t want to leave.
We arrived at this beautiful property at 8pm at night after 20 hours of flight to walk into a house that was 80 degrees. I sat down on the floor and started crying. I was so tired and I cannot sleep if I am too hot- it took 2 hours with all ceiling fans going and two small additional fans going to get it tolerableThe place has no air or decent circulation so we could not stay inside from about 11 am to sundown. Even after sundown we found that turning on the oven made the kitchen too hot to cook in and we ordered out and brought it in for the rest of the stayThe place is beautiful and comfortable and the surroundings are amazingPlease make it cooler so it can be enjoyed
We’ve been to Hawaii many times and have stayed at many vacation rentals / airbnbs and I can say without a doubt the Jungalow was the nicest place we’ve stayed at so far. Check in was easy enough… we appreciated the extra security of the locked gate at the top of the driveway. The rental was secluded, serene and surrounded by beautiful tropical fruit, palm and avocado trees, which we took advantage of every morning to add some fresh local fruit to our breakfasts. I took a walk around the neighborhood and saw some other obvious vacation rentals, which weren’t nearly as private or as lush as the Jungalow. There was a big rain storm for the first couple of days but we were content to sit on the big lanai, watch geckos, listen to thunder and enjoy our peaceful time at our perfectly appointed home away from home. When the weather improved, it was just a short drive to nearby food, beaches etc. All in all it was a great rental and we would absolutely stay there again.
You felt like you were ina a jungle yet just a short drive to Hilo. The house was updated & nice. You should be aware though that there is no air-conditioning. The house cools off at night for sleeping but was uncomfortable during the day, even with the windows &
I had a fantastic time while staying at the jungalow. The location was perfect. Quiet, beautiful and comfortable. The home was perfect.
The house was fantastic. Everything you need is stocked in the kitchen and bathroom. The grounds were amazing with fruit trees everywhere. The ice cream bean fruit was a special treat. Couldn’t ask for much more.
We had a great time at this property. It was easy to find and had everything we needed for our stay. Private and well taken care of. Would definitely come back again.
the place itself is gorgeous, private, peaceful, but a drive to pretty much anywhere and not much to do in that hood. The description should probably be updated, as some of the places described are no longer accessible. Having had a b and b myself, I would never think to ask guests to wash the linens, and we did not, as we left at daylight and did not want the clothes to sit in the washer for any length of time. One suggestion, fix the front gate. But one of the prettiest spots in Hilo.
The house was attractive, comfortable, spacious, with everything we needed. A peaceful country neighborhood. Especially loved the large yard, and every day discovering some new exotic fruit, foliage or flower on the edge of the “jungle”.
This is our second stay in this unique Jungalow on a beautiful piece of property.... it felt like "coming home" as we drove down the winding driveway. The home has incredible views of its own "rain forested jungle" with fruit trees, orchids, birds etc. I love cooking in their fully stocked kitchen and then leisurely reading on the lovely lanai. We spent each morning at The Cliffs for walks at dawn - just a few minutes away. Sightseeing in Hilo and the surrounding area is only 20 minutes away. We can't wait to return!
Most memorable is falling asleep listening to the coqui frogs at night and rain in the morning. The sound of the coqui frogs wete so relaxing that i had to record it. Location is tucked away from the road and landscaped beautifully. Centrally located between the hamakua coast and vnp. Our host and property manager were very responsive. As the host suggested, when arriving for the first time, it is best to do so in daylight. We arrived late and needed additional directions and help with the lockbox, which was hard to open. We did bring a flashlight, as it was very dark. We had all the amenities we needed and really appreciated the cooler for beverages and lunch while sight seeing. We would definitely stay here again.
The Jungalow was a perfect get away from the resort scene. Peaceful and surrounded by the sounds of frogs, birds and crickets. It was great.
This house is simply perfect. Sit on the lanai and soak in the songs of nature, frogs serenading in the evening, birds chirping in the mornings, waves roaring against the cliffs in the distance. A great way to start and finish your days here. The house is great, perfect place to reset and reconnect, super clean, well equipped, everything you need and nothing you don't. Pahoa and Keaau are close, Hilo within 30 minutes. Thanks for a lovely trip, can't wait to return to the Jungalow in the near future.
It's a nice rental. The house has recently been remodeled and everything was in good condition. It's not TOO far from Hilo but it's off the main road and pleasantly quiet at night (with a few coqui frogs). The walk to the trail to the ocean is a little less than a mile away and the coastline is quite nice there.
Couple of notes to be aware of, though. The house is not air conditioned, so if you're planning on being away during the day and close it up, it will take a little while to cool down in the evenings. It does cool down nicely overnight, though. Second point, there's a request from the caretakers to wash the towels they provide yourself before you leave. That takes around 1.75 hours, but it's something you'll need to account for if planning to leave out early - or just bring your own. Trash & recycling also need to be removed but there is a transfer station a couple miles from the house. We wound up not cooking or doing any meals at the house for simplicity of cleaning. I would recommend the property but wanted to give a complete review.
