The cabin was very nice. It is entirely solar powered and the water is filtered rain water. It was a very private area except there was another person living behind the cabin who used the same driveway for access. Also, the road to the cabin was very rough. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
The property was hard to find. The directions off this site and gps are different. I was confused because I saw another vehicle on property. It was the live in manager. We had our privacy and it was great to get away. We plan on staying again.
Aloha Lodge was the perfect location for our trip to Volcano National Park. Short distance to park and not far from Hilo and Pahoa. Extremely clean and comfortable. After a long day of exploring it’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. Would stay there again if in the area.
GPS didn’t take us to the home. Coming in after dark, in the rain and a long travel day made this a challenge. The home was very cute and met our needs since we weren’t planning to cook. Lovely setting and close to Volcano Natl Park.
Once we found the place the stay was great. Finding it in the dark was a challenge. The GPS said 1/4 mile in but it was actually .6 of a mile. Look for the white surf board at the end of the driveway.
Frankly the building didn’t look that spiffy from the outside, but was very nice inside. Everything we needed. Loved that it was off grid with solar and rainwater, without feeling like we were skimping at all. Would highly recommend! We also felt it was very reasonably priced.
Good communication and private location. Almost had a jungle feel to it by the way the yard was landscaped we really enjoyed our stay
We had a fabulous stay and absolutely loved the cabin's lanais, all the natural light, the kitchen, propane fireplace, open concept, and wood features. The cabin was easy to get to and the access road is well maintained. We enjoyed cooking dinners every night and even enjoyed some cocktails out on the lanai using the stemware provided. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
The cabin was clean and cute- but impossible to get a decent night’s sleep because the mattress was covered in plastic. Gross and sweaty!
Beautiful home in the middle of the jungle. Listening to the birds singing at night was magical! Two nights was certainly not enough. Super polite and accommodating owners. GPS location is true. Undoubtedly recommend. Strategically locate between Hilo and the Volcanoes park and other big island sightseeing locations! Mahalo and Aloooooha!
Place was just as described and perfect for us. Roads are rough in the subdivision, but manageable.
Yes, we took a wrong turn and got lost like so many others. So look for Mauna Kea Drive and a camouflaged red and yellow sign that says "Aloha Estate". When we arrived in the pouring rain, it was cold and damp. The propane stove (sans shield and vent) was somewhat warming but we didn't feel safe keeping it on. And while there were three remote controls chained to the table, there were no instructions for cable/satellite/DVD player and which remote was for which. Turns out they have Starllink but who knew?
Bed was comfortable. Neighbors were running a generator and blasted music in the middle of the night which could be heard over the pouring rain.
I wish I could post photos for future visitors so they don't miss the turn. I'd recommend owners post the pics for future visitors.

This is a VRBO property in a more rural area. Unfortunately it was advertised as being in the Volcano area but it was a 15-20 minute drive to the park so not super convenient. Cabin is remote so has a lush garden feel with lots of birds, frogs, roosters & wild pigs. However access requires some patience (slow driving) as the roads are narrow with heavy vegetation, not lit at night & the final 1/2 mile is not paved (bumpy, potholes). A high clearance vehicle would be ideal, but a regular car rental is it OK if you go slow. Comfortable bed, but oddly mattress had a plastic bed cover, which was awkward to get used to. Also, a funny feel to the cabin as there are labels and stickers about the rules plastered everywhere. Modern fridge and stove and a wide assortment of kitchen amenities. This was very much appreciated as dining is limited in the area and we were able to make some great meals for our stay. Awesome bathtub experience with skylights, Beautiful windows, looking out to the tropical setting and birdfeeders. Covered outdoor dining area as well a back porch off the bedroom, which was great for reading and listening to the birds during the rain. Wi-Fi also works surprisingly well given the location given the location. The communication with the owner was disappointing when compared to other VRBO experiences. Given the more remote setting, and the fact they do not live on site, we had a few questions before and during our stay. The host was very brief and transactional.
