Makahuena building 5 has a great location. You are overlooking beautiful Southwest sky/ocean with really beautiful sunsets. Waves crash on rocks which also has a spouting hole. We really had a very enjoyable and unforgettable stay. The property is well stocked, matches description and the hosts communicate well. We would stay again. The property is well-maintained, but there is some room for improvement. The parking is a bit further from parking, which is something one might want ti consider if traveling with checked in bags.
Having the ocean waves crashing feet away makes it an unforgettable vacation spot. We already miss walking to Poipou to see the turtles.

Stunning! Listening to the waves all day and night was what I was hoping for. Could not have been closer to the ocean than this condo. Location was perfect. Condo was spotless. Beach equipment was a definite plus! Very private and liked being on the ground floor which had a gate to look over the railings for turtles poking their heads out of the water! Would definitely recommend it and would stay there again.
Aloha,Well maintained and great management. The best part though, was the lanai. We saw rainbows, sunsets, whales, spinner dolphins, turtles, and birds. If it wasn't such a beautiful island, you would want to just stay at the condo.
The view from the lanai can't be beat. We saw tons of wildlife while sitting having coffee in the morning.The space was great, plenty of room for everyone. The beds were very comfortable!
Comfortable dwelling for four adults. The AC in the living areas was very much appreciated. Access to the dwelling was though a single flight of stairs and a long ramp, or using multiple sets of stairs. The view from the lanai, which is adjacent to the rocky coastline, was great, with lots of wave action. Pool was located very close to entry stairs. Mattresses on beds were good. Furniture was showing its age, but was adequate for the five night stay. No other particular deficits were notable.
My family stayed here, it was such a cute unit. The lanai was so beautiful to sit outside on. We saw soooo many turtles at all times of the day! The kids loved it. The waves were gorgeous. The unit was clean upon arrival and very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again!
We loved Kauai and everything there is to explore on such a beautiful island! The location of the condo is great and we enjoyed the spectacular view from the patio. Pros- The condo is located an easy distance to everything you would want to do on the South Shore, beaches, restaurants, shops and activities. There are chairs, umbrellas, snorkels and masks and boogie boards that make your beach trips easy and comfortable. You can walk to many beaches and restaurants. The check-in was smooth, we arrived 30 min early and we able to get right in. The instructions and relevant information was easily accessible. The kitchen had everything you would need for meals at home. Cons- When we arrived we were excited to go out to the patio and enjoy the view, what we didn't expect was to find all the tables and chairs filthy. There was so much dirt that we spent the next hour cleaning so we could sit down. I understand that the winds tends to blow red dirt everywhere I would however, expect that everything would be clean to start our stay. As requested we took off our shoes when we came in the condo, in a short time our socks were covered in dirt. It didn't seem that housekeeping had cleaned/mopped the floor before our stay. We found the vacuum and did our best to clean up. The most difficult thing we encountered was the noise from the bedroom and living room air conditioners. It was so loud that we had to turn them off at night. The condo is nice but ready for an update in most rooms.
Best unit in the complex for viewing sunset. Comfortable and good a/c. A/C unit in the living room is loud and annoying at times, but there overall a great stay. Plenty of beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, boogie boards, and even some snorkeling equipment for fantastic beach days.
Fantastic location and amazing views right from the lanai. Saw turtles everyday from our lanai and one day we saw stingray.
Sunsets are incredible just sitting our lanai with drink in hand.
Short walk to Poipu beach and trail near condo was easy to access and great for morning run/walks along the water.
Owner also had condo well stocked in kitchen and plenty of supplies.
Spacious bathrooms and very comfortable master bed.
Definitely recommend and will stay again on any future trips to Kauai.

The view is absolutely beautiful but the condo is in need of some much needed TLC/ updates…very musty smelling upon entering, kitchen & bathrooms have horrible florescent lighting (kitchen light didn’t work at all, making it very dark) flooring is dingy looking, AC wasn’t working in the primary bedroom, rubber seal on shower door was coming off and the lanai was extremely dirty and had broken tiles, I also found it really weird that there were personal pictures of the family on the shelves, just my opinion that if you really want to make the unit feel welcoming, take them down while it’s rented out (we turned them around). I did contact the property management to let her know of a couple of concerns and while we were gone and without notifying us, they entered the unit, I’m not sure how short term rentals work but as long term property owners, we have to give our tenants 24 hour notice before entering...just an FYI
Location was superb and would definitely stay here again.

The four of us stayed at this condo for 6 nights. We loved the huge porch - the views of the sunrise and sunset were incredible. The layout of the condo is wonderful for privacy with the bathrooms next to each other and the bedrooms next to the bathrooms. The kitchen could be a bit better equipped but when we asked if there was a coffee grinder (there was not), one showed up on our doorstep, which was wonderful because we wanted to enjoy the freshly ground coffee from Hawaii. Overall, a really spacious unit with wonderful views of the water (saw whales and turtles). We had a very nice stay!
We stayed over the new year holiday and while the location of the property was great the unit is showing its age in many locations. The chairs outside by the table are old and paint is falling off. There is very little places to sit on patio which is the best part of the unit and huge. We had to find the 4th chair that was hidden under the stairs. The labels for the switches have faded away so they are hard to read. The showers both seem to be in need of new doors and a deep clean. The bedding and rug did not match the pictures. The plantation shutters are mostly broken. Overall the location is excellent and watching the sunset and the waves crash on the rocks tried to make up for the condition of the unit. Overall would not stay again especially for the price.
