Hearing the Ocean made it a dream while falling asleep! Watching the Sunrise was so incredible also!
My wife and I stayed at the Pono Kai resort for our honeymoon several years ago in a different unit and loved our stay. We decided to come back and upgrade to an oceanfront unit this time. The location of this unit is amazing - sitting out on the deck with the ocean-front view everyday was so lovely, and the ocean-breeze kept the unit from getting stuffy in the afternoon, no AC needed. Overall, the unit is comfortable (great bed), but a few details dragged down the experience. First, the bathroom sink was not draining upon our arrival. I had to clean (de-clog) the drain to get it working, which looked like it hasn't been cleaned in over a year (yuck). The carpet in the unit seems to be the original probably from the 90s and was also a bit gross, not sure carpet is a good material to use in general for humid island conditions. Other little details like cracked and peeling kitchen cabinets that had been taped up with painters tape and other poor quality fixes throughout the unit detracted from the experience. I hope the owner will address these issues for the sake of future renter's stay.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Pono Kai. It’s the first time we’ve stayed there in Kapaa. Location was great and check in and check out was relatively simple
Everything was good, clean and well stocked and comfortable. The unit could use some maintenance, one of the cabinets in the kitchen has tape holding on the veneer on one of the doors, the sliding glass door was hard to open and close. Even with these things we would definitely stay here again.
We totally enjoyed the ocean front views. It was very relaxing to hear the surf. The condo and property are very clean, but dated. We did have a few ants
We just got home from a wonderful stay in Kauai. The condo was just what we needed, and the ocean front view was gorgeous. We had awesome sunrises each morning, and a shaded patio all afternoon.
It had everything we needed in the kitchen, and had boogie boards, beach chairs and a beach umbrella for our use.
We also loved the location as it was close to Safeway, and many good restaurants (try the Macadamia Sea Bass at the Lemongrass Grill).
Huma was always quick to respond to any questions, and the check in/out procedure was easy.
We'll keep this on our list for future visits.
First time staying in Kapa’a as we usually stay in Princeville. Great location for us for a few days, as it was easy access to Lihue & south parts of the island. Beautiful ocean view from the deck/living room. Bright & airy with the windows open. Well equipped & nice amenities.
Pona Kai Resort is a great place to vacation.Beautiful grounds.Close to the beach and all amenities. C204 has a fantastic ocean view with the beach 50 yards away. The condo was nice and comfortable. Could use a little updating. Be nice to have a lounge chair on the lanai and a newer coffee maker. The herd of elephants that was above us tended to be little annoying at times. But that's the risks you take if your not on the top floor. All in all a great stay. Would highly recommend. Thanks Huma.
We loved the awesome ocean view we had from our balcony. Everything was provided that you could possibly need. No need for A/C, as there was always a breeze to keep the unit cool. The resort also has many games and equipment that you can use free of charge. Walking distance to so many places.
Enjoyed our stay!! Good communication with owner. Check in was easy. Well stocked kitchen and bathroom. Perfect location. Amazing view from the patio!!
Thank you for having us!!
This a great oceanfront condo and our 2nd time staying here (so that should tell you something!). Breeze through condo generally kept it cool with ceiling fans. Portable fans did the trick when there was no breeze. Kitchen was well supplied and ice maker in fridge was very well used. Some people complain about condos being dated, but unless you're paying a lot more, 90% of these condos will be dated. Large lanai was great as were the binoculars to help see the whales and some spinner dolphins. Only thing I would recommend Huma to buy is a lounger. Beach chairs and cooler in closet were great for us but she also had snorkel gear and some sand toys as well. Absolutely loved this condo. If this condo is in your price range I would grab it.
The property is not 5 star, but the location and view is. Ocean front, nice lanai, workable floor plan, good bed, easy access. No air conditioning, but not really needed when the windows and sliding door are open. Enjoy Kauai!
Property is as advertised, and we will likely return.

The condo was pleasant looking and comfortable. It was clean! Things were in good condition EXCEPT the sliding glass door and screen to the balcony. It was pretty bad! The screen was SHOT and the handle on the door just about off. We used it CAREFULLY! Otherwise, I would certainly return and recommend it to others!

Great view of the ocean. Clean for the most part (shower could use a good cleaning) the kitchen was nice but everything else was fairly run down and there was a strong musty odor. The bed was too soft (and it was quite warm in the bedroom) so we ended up sleeping on the pull out couch (which was actually fairly comfortable) The unit was quiet and the complex was nice. Some nice restaurants close by.

There was a notice posted at the building that from May 8th to May 31st the elevator would not be in service. Our check in was May 18th to May 23rd. The Owner (Huma) or the Manager did not notify us of no elevator service to our 2nd floor apartment. We are Seniors and booked it primarily for the convenience of an elevator. On arrival we had our luggage and groceries with us at the building in a cart provided by the resort, but discovered NO elevator. It would have been courteous of the Owner or the Manager to notify us in advance, since they had to know it was not in service during our stay. The Owner at first declared he did not know the elevator was broken, then texted he thought it would be fixed by the time we arrived. We booked over a month prior to our check in date. I was disappointed in the Owner being less than honest with us. The apartment was in a wonderful location with a great ocean breeze and comfortable even though there was no air conditioning in the unit. The only real negative about the apartment itself was my husband felt the mattress was too soft and woke up with backaches. No fault of the unit, the apartment above was very noisy with scrapping of furniture on apparently bare floors.
Despite these minor difficulties we had a wonderful 5 night stay and enjoyed the location and wonderful view.

This property is well taken care of, despite the salty ocean breezes trying to attack anything that is metal. All bldgs have an elevator but ours broke down about 3 days after we arrived and they are still working on it as we left. Thankfully we are only on the 2nd floor so not an issue. Our unit was furnished well and was more than adequate for our needs including wifi and cable. The kitchen had everything one would need. You don't miss not having a/c with the constant ocean breeze and the ceiling fans. The bathtub and sink drains run slowly but we will be mentioning that at checkout to management. All in all...a lovely experience that we would repeat!! Mahalo, Huma, for allowing us to share your lovely place!!

Ideal location on the island. Close to everything you could need. Waking up to the view was amazing, but be prepared to have everyone on the bike path get a view of you as well. The walls are semi thin, I think I just got unlucky with neighbors that had loud voices. Unit was clean and had necessities stocked.

Very central location making it easy to visit North and South of beautiful Kawai. The on-site playgrounds are fun and all equipment is available at the pool area (tennis racquets, putter, etc.). Beach chairs and cooler are available in the studio which is very useful. Right in front is a very nice beach good for swimming and there is natural shade from the trees near the beach. Bike and walk path in front of the ocean is great! Restaurants and markets are situated nearby. The sunrise is amazing and makes nice pictures.
