Outstanding, surreal location - simply breathtaking!
We loved the property. Not your typical rental house, everyone hade their own space and the grounds were beautiful.They were very accommodating when we realized I’d booked for the wrong dates. They got us into another spot until Temple was ready for us!
I really liked the forest cabin type property I loved this place! Well appointed kitchen not tht I used it much, ha ha ha! A lot of room for people to have their own space with the three building layout.Will book again in the future when I return to this beautiful island. I thank the owner and I especially thank the people of Hawai'i and the spirit of the island herself. Such a lovely place in a world filled with many troubles. Peace.
Everything about this property was exactly as expected. The views are simply breathtaking, and the privacy of the property was just what we needed.
lovely, relaxing location
We enjoyed our stay at this unique place. Beautiful location, right on the water. The house is a unique design with lots of space to roam around. We only had a few minor issues. One is that the refrigerator freezer had someone else’s garbage in it. The owner wants you to put any garbage that might attract insects in a bag in the freezer which is fine. However, they should remove the previous guests garbage before new guest move in. The house needs a functional can opener. The current one is rusty and nonfunctional. Also, it would be nice to have some smaller cocktail glasses in addition to the large 16 oz glasses and abundant wine glasses.
Breathless!! This place has Hawaii home, all over it. We just loved everything about it from all the old history decor, to the crashing ocean waves! The gated property made us feel very safe, but it was as if we were in our own world!! Just not enough time or words to put it all in. The one word that keeps popping into my mind is "Spiritual" Can't wait to go back.Mahalo!!

This house had an amazing view and a layout that offered lots of personal space. However, it's not in a great location: About an hour from the national park, 90 minutes from Black Sand Beach, 30 minutes from Hilo, 90 minutes from the Observatory. Lots of driving to places. The property is private and a great retreat, but the kitchen is not well stocked, which makes cooking challenging, with no restaurants close by. This makes it less relaxing and add hassle.
This is our second time staying here. This is a great spot for a family of 4-5 people. The added picnic table was a very pleasant place for breakfast looking out to the ocean watching the whales beach and swimming around the bay. The sounds of the geckos and waves made falling asleep super easy. Just a perfect spot.
A quaint experience in a quirky set of buildings in a dreamy location. We had whales so close you could hear them blowing from inside over the sound of the pounding surf, and watched turtles playing from our porch. Decently appointed, comfortable beds, great views. It was clean, and the management was responsive.
Right on the water with spectacular views! This plantation style home is very nice, with lots of charm and character. Overall, a very nice and comfortable stay.
The view cannot be beat! The living room, 1 bedroom, and main space are separate buildings connected with a covered walkway. I over looked the fact that it does not have air conditioning, for us that was not good. The view though is spectacular!

Lots of sleeping room options. The beds closer to the waves could be a bit too loud with the winter crashing waves but moving to the upstairs bedroom provided the perfect mix of waves but tranquility for sleeping. The upstairs bedroom could get too warm during a sunny day but once evening arrived, it cooled down with the open windows sufficient for sleeping. The beds were very plush and soft. Showers came with body wash and shampoo. The home is very private with its own gate. It takes about 20 minutes to go to the nearest town of Keauu and 30 minutes into Hilo. Would stay again if considering staying on the Hilo side of the island.

This was my 31st time to the islands and my second time staying at this beautiful place! It is now my favorite place to stay from all the islands! It’s quiet and it’s clean. The place is unique and it has everything you need. I like the secluded location, and the views are just mesmerizing. I have recommended this to many people and have a feeling it’s gonna book up!

the views were beautiful and property quiet. The kitchen was missing items like baking pans for appetizers or a pizza which would have been helpful. Activities were cut short by the approaching tropical storm Hone which is scheduled to hit after check out time and may be a problem on our trip to our other half of our stsy on the Kailus-Kona side making this more of an adventure than we planned for but things happen.

Our stay at Temple Tree Retreat was amazing. There was so much space for our whole family to hang out. The master bedroom was the perfect place to rest and listen to the ocean crash. We loved exploring the rocks and watching turtles from the cliff.

Place was as listed however some details were missing and it was basic. Upstairs was super hot and tower ac unit was not working. It was a far drive from Hilo or restaurants which is expected but would hold us from booking again. The view is the focus yet only a cheap plas If chair to sit out on lava I’ve been at other vrbo places and more effort was put into them. Not a bad place to stay but accustomed to more details vs just a rental

The place right on the ocean with an amazing view, the sunrise and the waves was just great. A very unique lodging.
The only thing we were missing was a big table and chairs outside. The inside dining table and chairs were not very big and comfortable.

It was wonderful!!! The home was beautiful, well kept, and had all we needed and more to make our vacation fantastic! We loved being on the ocean and having the sun wake us in the mornings. We viewed whales in the blue ocean from the yard or when we were seated on the porch areas. Several turtles would show up every day along the ocean wall. The home is located in a quiet area not too far from Hilo. There was a book in the house that gave info on beaches, dining, etc. That was very helpful. Comfortable beds, beautiful kitchen with all the things needed for cooking, large laundry room, and very clean, comfortable home.
Private, unique, great location. Ocean views and sounds. Whales present in the winter. Interesting birds.

We loved staying at Temple Tree Retreat, no one wanted to leave. I visit Hawaii every year and this is by far my favorite house on the Big Island. Highlights: Whale watching and listening to the sound of the waves and Coqui frogs at night.
We had a great time at Temple Tree. A very unique lodging experience with incredible sunrises out the bedroom window. Multiple whale sightings including some real close to shore.
