It’s difficult for me to describe just how awful the VRBO experience was for this trip. I booked three units for our large family at this BEAUTIFUL resort in Kauai seven or eight months ago, one through VRBO, and the other two through other companies. We purchased airline tickets, rental cars etc. A few weeks before the trip, I started the re-confirmation process and received confirmation numbers for the resort from the other two bookings. VRBO could/would not provide such a confirmation from the resort, but assured me me in multiple calls the reservation was valid, even as I escalated to supervisors. So I called the resort who was very helpful. They immediately found the other two reservations, but not the VRBO one. By this time I have spent hours trying to figure this out. I again called VRBO who once again said the reservation was valid, don’t worry. But they did have me contact the owner through the VRBO communication system. Eventually the owner came back to me and said there was no reservation, but she would check more, and if there was any problem, she would simply refund the thousands of dollars held from March to September! This was pretty astonishing, to say the least. Indeed the next day I was told the reservation did not exist and monies would be refunded, whereupon VRBO severed the link purchaser to owner in their system so I was stuck with zero help from VRBO!!! I contacted the company that booked another unit, who was very helpful and found me replacement unit in the same wonderful resort, and immediately was able to give me the resort’s confirmation professionally. The fact that one happened to be available weeks before is almost miraculous no thanks to VRBO. Now it gets truly bizarre. Just before we arrived VRBO sent an email saying here are the keys to the unit (I assume digitally speaking). By this time, we had received the refund so I ignored it. After we left we got “how was your stay” emails, and finally this one asking me to review the resort. BOTTOM LINE: The Point at Poipu is a beautiful resort, with great views, close access to two beaches, and very helpful staff. But I can only recommend you be VERY CAREFUL using VRBO for your vacation, as they accepted my money, held it for many months for a phantom booking, and just bailed after I forced the issue. They did get me a refund after a few days, but incredibly, the phantom reservation lives on these many weeks!
