Hale Kai means Ocean House, and it's easy to see where this home gets its name. At this oceanfront escape on the cliffs of Hawaiian Paradise Park, you'll enjoy beautiful, unobstructed ocean views and a large wraparound deck where you can barbecue, dine in the sun, and glimpse passing whales, turtles, and dolphins. Whether you're planning a family vacation or a romantic escape - proposals have even happened on this deck - you'll love having wall-to-wall glass doors for watching the waves crash on the cliffs.
Hale Kai is located in the Hawaiian Paradise Park neighborhood, which sits just 17 miles south of Hilo and 12 miles north of Kapoho. You'll be half a mile from an oceanfront park on Beach Road, just across the neighborhood from a two-mile trail that leads through the jungle out to swimming access at Ha'ena (Shipman) Beach, and a few minutes from a grocery store, several cafes, and a gas station in Orchidland. Pahoa's cute shops are only 10 miles away, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is about a 30-mile drive from the house.

This is was a great place to use as home base while on vacation. It is a simple house with plenty of space for everyone. I would definitely book this place again.

We had 2 adults snd 2 teenagers. The house was absolutely wonderful. We spent every evening on the wrap around porch. Loved our visit to Volcano National park, waterfalls, and the hike off of Beach Rd. to Shipman Beach. The house was well equipped and we were able to grocery shop close by. Would stay again if we ever visit Hilo in the future.

Nice little house for +/-6, awesome view, highly recommend driving gov beach rd SE of Hawaiian Beaches neighborhood. Inexpensive for what you get. Had trouble getting in on arrival (door was dead bolted) but a call to customer service set us straight with no delay. I’d stay in a Vacasa managed property again.

While the interior was a bit dated and beds not too comfy, the views were outstanding. Sunrise never got old even on a cloudy or rainy morning. We’d choose this again if we return to the big island.

Really great location. The house, however, was obviously cheaply built and cheaply decorated. It was also hot as heck! No insulation apparently, and no blinds in the great room to block the heat from the sun. There were ceiling and floor fans, but the ceiling fans were noisy. The kitchen was not well outfitted--as though someone made a list of utensils but had never cooked. We had a great time, but I will look for alternatives to Vacasa the next time I am looking for a vacation rental

We loved how the entire back of the house was windows, offering an incredible view of the ocean. The deck right behind it was walled with glass, so the view is not impaired at all. The home was very clean and very comfortable. We grilled our dinners and made breakfast in the nice kitchen. It was fairly warm when we were there (unseasonably so) and so we really appreciated the whole-house fan

We were thrilled to come back to Hale Kai for another stay. The home is even more comfortable than before. Great home base for Hilo, Pahoa, and Volcano. Can’t beat the ocean view reading and relaxing on the lanai.

We stayed on property for a hiking trip and house fully met our needs. It was fully equipped and supplied even with a bag of ice in freezer. The main reason we rented property is the incredible view of the ocean from the living/dinning room and back porch. House is just 50 feet from a cliff at the ocean front and seeing/hearing the waves crash into the cliff is mesmerizing. The main negative is no AC. House gets warm during day and windows need to be left open at night. While nights are relatively pleasant you need ear plugs to sleep do to outside bird chirping all night. We had problems with the coded door lock so used the emergency lock box key entire time. Property manager promptly gave us lock box code to access key. The house uses rain water system and recommends bringing your own bottled water.
