The pole house is one of the most unique and amazing places we have stayed at. In addition, John is an amazing host. He is very down to earth, has great stories, and works hard to create a great environment for his guests. Last time my wife and I visited Maui we stayed here. We enjoyed it so much that we planned our second visit to Maui based around being able to book the pole house. We love being able to open up all the doors, the view of the trees, the ocean in the distance, and the quiet neighborhood. While we had many adventures on this trip: hiking into Haleakala, driving and hiking the northwest area, hiking south of Kihei, and enjoying the beach - the pole house is our version of paradise and we plan to stay here again on our next trip to Maui.

A little slice of paradise. Private and serene yet close to all of the things that we wanted to see and do. Every second we spent in the home seemed like something out of a dream. Beautifully appointed. We particularly loved the way that we felt surrounded by all of the sights and sounds of the jungle. Felt like we were staying in a luxury treehouse with an ocean view. John was a fantastic host. Attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Highly recommend.

The pictures sell it enough, but what the pictures dont show is how equally incredible the host/creator of the house is. Our host was second to none, amazingly kind and generous. Tons of laughs, intrigue and beauty emanate from this property and it will add more to your trip than you would ever suspect. Much Mahalo - can recommend enough.

We had an absolutely incredible stay! It can be a little hard to find but only because it is so private and secluded in the best way. But that was no issue because our host John was there to help from the very beginning, as he continued to do throughout our entire stay, sending up grocery items and fresh fruit. It rained our whole trip but it was no issue because we didn’t even want to leave. About 10-20 minutes from groceries & restaurants. Wonderful wonderful stay!

This is an exclusive, isolated paradise that John has built. Although in a residential neighborhood,it's set deep inside a beautiful plantation with lots of incredible plants and trees. It's high up above the surrounding area and offers views of lush canopies and then irth coast ocean. Location is peaceful and isolated but close enough to local town Paia and literally at the start of the road to Hana we managed to drive to haleakala and also the south coast easily from here too. Nearest sandy beaches are a 15 min drive away but surfing beaches are closer . The house itself is far beyond what the listing shows. It's the highest quality of design with expensive wood work throughout and an impressive sliding door system on 3 of the 4 walls, allowing fascinating natural air conditioning. Lots of beautiful sculpture work and art around and unique is an under. John himself is a great guy. He made himself available to us and is very interesting as well as helpful. We personally don't enjoy interacting with hosts but the little time we made to speak to him, he was very generous and fun. Just a note to ignore the woman complaining about ants. Shocking how petty people can be. The property sits in the most pristine natural landscape and is open air if you leave the sliding doors open. Of course there would be insects but all we had were ants crawl over some open banana bread we left out of the fridge. No drama at all! Not sure when we'll be back in Maui but we'll stay here again.
