We had a wonderful stay at La Cappana. The historic cabin is in a fantastic location in Volcano town right near the Kilauea Lodge with its fantastic restaurant and the Swap Meet at the community center, and a quick and easy drive to the best of Volcano National Park. Even though it is so close to everything Volcano has to offer, the property feels very private with lots of native plants and trees. We enjoyed watching all the birds with our morning coffees We had an added bonus of visiting during an eruption period and got to see the largest eruption in decades. Since the cabin was so close to the park, we went back to watch the eruption 5 times in the 28 hour eruption period, glad for the convenience of the cabin. It was so exciting! The cabin was well laid out, with 3 nice private bedrooms, two bathrooms (one with an adorable claw-foot soaking tub!), a well-stocked kitchen, and multiple eating areas (small table in the kitchen, larger dining table, and a covered outdoor picnic table). The temperatures in Volcano do get cold and being a historic cabin, it has the traditional Hawaiian single wall (uninsulated) construction with no central heating, but the wood stove, space heaters, plentiful blankets, and heated mattress pads kept us nice and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the comfortable, welcoming, peaceful and quiet cabin. Since we live on nearby Oahu, we are hoping to come back again soon! Mahalo for sharing your beautiful retreat with us!
The highlight was seeing Kilaeua erupting. You have to check the USGS cam regularly cause it can start and stop any time. So amazing to just run up the road to see spouting lava. Be sure to read the old guestbook entries they go back a hundred years.”It’s prettier here than Indiana.” HA! The wood stove was a life saver cause it can get chilly but what’s better than a cup of coffe and a wood fire? Love this place
We had a great stay. The house was clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable for a few days. Perfect location to explore the park. The house gets cool overnight but there are heaters in the rooms, heated mattresses in all the beds and fireplace to start in the morning. A.
Very welcoming home with so much history. When you walk in it is stepping back in time. You can feel the happiness and a sense of place. Nice yard, back lanai to gather and warm wood burning stove.Convenient!
We absolutely loved the historic home. The blazing wood stove took the chill off the night air. The three bedrooms worked great for our family of 5. The close proximity to Volcano National Park was fantastic.
Beautiful historic property. Nice amenities.
Great location! Family oriented. Very very clean.
The home is exactly as portrayed - it’s a throwback to a simpler time! Wood paneling, cozy furnishings, and an abundance of doilies that might make you think of a grandparent’s home. My teenage girls didn’t love the aesthetic, but it suited me just fine. Beds were comfy and kitchen and laundry access were big helps.
Beautiful, classic Hawaiian style plantation house! Roomy, spotless, supremely comfortable. It felt timelessand made us feel connected to the place and its history. The grounds are beautiful. The location could not be better for access to the town of Volcano and Volcanoes National Park. This is a wonderful find!
It is charming in a rustic way. It was smaller than we thought and the only heat in the living room and kitchen was a wood burning stove so we spent a lot of time and energy trying to stay warm. The first 2 days there was no live TV but a new spectrum box was brought in. Theresa, the property manager was very accommodating.
La Capanna is a lovely old house surrounded by vegetation but accessible to all the things to do in the Volcano area. We were two couples traveling together, so it was great to have the bedrooms and baths separated by the living area.
Taressa was immediately responsive, when we contacted her about a couple of questions we had.
The kitchen is beautifully equipped with pots & pans and dishes. Guests do need to bring most cooking basics like olive oil etc.
The wood-burning fireplace is lovely, and it made for warm and cozy evenings. The main part of the house is chilly though, so warm clothes are required when the fire isn't lit.
We all had a wonderful stay and we highly recommend this property!
The property was beautiful and Taressa was great at communicating with us before and during our stay! We had a lovely time in Volcano and it was very close to the National Park - which was great as we went many times over our 3 days there. The space was lovely and it was so convenient to park the car right at the door with covered parking and haul our stuff in and out as it was rainy most days! Only downside was building my own fire, as we had mostly chilly days. But I figured it out pretty quick and the property had all the necessary supplies to get it going. There are space heaters in every bedroom that we ran, but for the main living room we had a fire going most days. Lovely trip and would definitely come back and stay here again!
I would live in this home forever if I could. What a relaxing, wonderful place to get away in. Thank you for everything!
A gorgeous space. Mahalo!
The house had a nice rustic feeling. The fireplace with wood was available for us to use. The kitchen had everything we wanted. It is very close to Volcano National Park and one can even come back during day to rest for couple of hours and head back. There couple of nice restaurants/ Thai food truck nearby. The house is close to street but off the highway. So there is some vehicle noise during day but very peaceful at night. This was not a bother as we were out for most of day time.
Taressa was very good at communicating throughout.
We enjoyed the cozy atmosphere and loved having the wood-burning stove to warm the place up. Very enjoyable.
Very quiet and peaceful, Good parking situation. Very close to Volcano National Park. Good Thai food truck nearby. Host was very easy to communicate with. Charming cottage atmosphere.
