Also door entry was changed last day. Locked out for w.5 hours. No respo nse from owner. Dont stay there. Tried to workwith owner. Not successful.
Big Island is an amazing island. My husband and I have been to all the islands and we actually think that this is the best of all of them. Less expensive. Affordable. Sooo calm. We love the location of this condo, it has an amazing view of the ocean. What you see in the picture is 100% accurate of what you’ll expect in person. The downside is we didn’t like the unit so much. It highly needs improvement, it’s old and needs cleanliness. If you’re in a low budget and looking for something last minute, this is the place. My husband and I chose this unit because we were literally booking last minute and I grabbed this so quick and plus it’s inexpensive. However, when we got to the unit, we feel we should’ve booked somewhere else. There’s bugs, and there’s cockroach as well in our unit. I freaked out! It was big and on the wall! I reached out to our host and Ken responds very well and he’s on top of it. Within minutes, the maintenance guy came and take care of the pest. Ken is a very good host!!! He’s the best! The only thing is the unit needs to be properly cleaned and maybe change a lot of things inside. When we came, there’s a dead bug laying in our bathroom and that right away is a disappointment, but overall, our stay was well accommodated. Great view!! Great location, super close to downtown. We walked to go shopping, eat and have dinner, etc. Plus, Magic Sands Beach is also super close here, we’re able to enjoy the beach too without driving far!
Pros:-Location, location, location…quick walk to town and the complex has all the amenities needed.-Lots of cabinet space in the kitchen and bathroom.-Included all of the basics needed for indoor and outdoor cooking along with plates/containers, etc.Cons:-The unit has A/C but only in the living room. You need to run fans in the bedroom to keep it semi-comfortable.-The unit has a king size bed but it is rickety and un-comfortable.-There are NO beach chairs/umbrellas to use so you need to spend another 100 for those.-It supposedly has cable TV but couldn’t get the remote control to actually work. (Zero directions)-Checkout is actually 10:00a even though the directions state 10:30a
This was my 9 time to Kona & have mostly stayed at the Kona Reef. Love the property & the location. This condo was great. Beautiful view. Well stocked kitchen etc. Would have been nice to have beach chairs which other places have had, but otherwise no complaints. Mahalo!

I will definitely book this unit again! Everything was as listed and we had a wonderful time. Everything was comfortable, well appointed and our communications with the owner were responded to immediately. I love Hawai’i and would find this unit comfortable enough to live in full time!!
We love staying at the Kona Reef for the ocean views and easy access to this property. The location is great for our needs.
Overall the place is fantastic. Right next door to a beautiful beach. Air Conditioner keeps the front room cool and the bedroom was not cold but cool enough.
We had a nice time and this was a comfortable place to stay. Could use a bit of a refresh but nothing major. It was my first time staying in Kailua-Kona and it is a bit of a zoo for our taste. Next time I will probably look for a place outside the core area.
Did have a nice visit overall, went for a great hike on the Jurassic Trail, a beautiful tropical forest loop of about 3.5 miles. Warning though, lots of rocks and roots so poles recommended for older hikers
Needs some upgrades..carpet old..bathtub hard to properly clean..bed was fine..wifi went out but Jim fixed it promptly..overall was a good stay..now joining 2 friends this afternoon here in same unit for 9 days..
Good furniture, comfortable bed with bed linens new enough to fit bed.Negatives….abysmal lighting in kitchen, had to add table lamp to top of fridge.Kitchen faucet threatened to come off unless positioned just right. Needed more flatware and a few extra mugs…..not vital, but could be improved on.saucepans in good condition.Towel rail in bathroom screwed into hollow door so it fell off. Nice to have a bath tub but no plug and grungy looking with mildew, not inducive to sitting in tub.Large storage closet badly in need of clearing out as it was crammed full of old beach gear. High window in bedroom needed blackout shades as outside light from external path meant room was still in half light at nights.
All these are easily remedied
Awesome View. So a lot of reviews talk about the condition. So the fridge is rusty and some of the furnishings are old. What you have to consider is island mentality and sustainability. The fridge worked so why replace it? the curtain rods are rusty, ac leaks, etc. Easy parking, pool is nice. Its Big Island Hawaii. The neighborhoods less than an hr from Kona catch rain water for baths, dishes, and laundry and have cess pools for sewer removal. So its all about perspective. We would stay at this place again.
This place was great. We had contactless check in and out and had no trouble with either. Close enough to Kona heart without being too close. They had fruit trees out the front you can pick from. Walking distance to Kona shopping area.
