Property Description
5 miles from the entrance of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. The newly renovated cottage offers a retro-modern design and an open floor plan.
A cozy studio cottage with an open floor plan kitchen, dining, and living room serves as your home base for exploring Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the Kalapana Coast of the Big Island.
The Kamaka Cottage accommodates up to two persons with a queen-size bed. The kitchenette is equipped with a mini fridge, toaster oven, microwave, griddle, two-burner hot plate, pots and pans, Keurig/drip coffee maker, and fresh water dispenser. Complimentary wireless internet and parking just outside your front door are provided.
Convenient, free parking is available next to the cottage once you enter the private gate. Self check-in is available, or the host can meet you if requested.

Kamaka Cottage is located in the quaint rainforest town of Volcano Village, adjacent to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The town offers a farmers market and a wonderful store where you can shop, have a bite to eat, and warm up with coffee or hot chocolate on the porch while watching the light rain.
We are 35 minutes from the larger town of Hilo, which has grocery stores and more shopping options. Additionally, we are 30 minutes from Papakōlea Beach, one of only four green sand beaches in the world and home to many sea turtles.
The cottage is located behind our main house. There will be a host on-site during your stay for any issues that need immediate attention and to assist with check-in/check-out if needed. 2ºC, so guests can enjoy the infrared heater. In winter months, visitors to our island need to bring warm jackets as well as bathing suits.
Residents of Volcano Village actively participate in keeping exterior lighting low, so the only streetlights in the village are at the highway, where Wright Road and Haunani Road begin and go up through the village. Consequently, the roads are dark at night.
The State of Hawai'i has two taxes that affect visitors to the islands: the Transient Accommodations Tax and the General Excise Tax. 96% during 2020.

Excellent (very short drive) location for our first ever visit to Hawaii Volcanoes NP. Allowed us to arrive at Park earlier and stay later than had we stayed e.g. near Hilo.Very quiet location! Convenient parking

We really enjoyed our short stay at Kamaka Cottage in Volcano. The location was perfect for exploring Volcanoes National Park. The cottage is nicely appointed with a lot of sunny windows and great access to the outdoors via the barn doors that open into the rain forest. It has everything you need for a private and secluded stay.

The property was clean and cute and a great location for visiting Volcano National Park. It is fairly well appointed, but it does not have a TV. Be advised that it is not secluded and is immediately adjacent to another, larger rental house and that parking is out the front door. Another thing to be mindful is that the unit must be heated/cooled by you. There is no thermostat, and temperatures fluctuate from 80 to 50, meaning you have to open windows/fans or turn on a space heater. Our first night we got very cold as we didn’t realize that there was no insulation and it would get so cold inside the cabin. Although the owner did warn us of packing properly for the weather changes, there are no instructions inside for heating/cooling the unit. This would have been helpful and this why I’m giving 4 stars. The second night was warmer as we figured out using the space heater and the other renters were much quieter. In addition we had the good fortune of seeing Kilauea erupt!

This property was exactly as advertised and exactly what we expected and needed. It was clean, well stocked, and close to the Volcano National park. The hosts were excellent communicators, reaching out to ensure we knew about weather alerts during our stay and letting us know they were available if any questions or issues arose (none did). Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Perfect location for prime proximity to multiple Big Island attractions... Volcanoes National Park, Holei Sea Arch, Kula Kai Caverns, black sand and green sand beaches. Quaint cottage with a cozy feel and access to nearby eateries! Would definitely book again!

This location is about as luxurious as economy gets. It is simple, but exceptionally comfortable, clean and well equipped. Yet it was so much less expensive than almost anywhere else. It was a score.
