The location and neighborhood are great — close to Safeway and the ocean. Check-in could’ve been better as they wouldn’t send instructions until after the cleaning crew was done the day of check-in. The most disappointing was the rooms and bed setup were not as pictured on the listing. One bedroom wasn’t even connected to the main space, making it inconvenient to reach the bathroom. Two beds were pictured as “real beds” but they were actually mattresses on the floor. This is ok for children but not adults paying good money for a space which is supposed to look as advertised. The towels are less than ideal — large chamois with the landlords name and address embroidered on them. When I mentioned the rooms to the landlord, they simply told me it used to be a hostel. I wouldn’t stay here again, nor would I have rented it had I known two beds were mattresses on the floor.
Great location, clean, and very accommodating host. We had a group of educators traveling, and wanted everyone to have their own bed and the host. Make sure there was an individual that for everybody.
The property folks were great and always got back to me VERY quickly. It did make me nervous that we couldn't have the information about actually getting into our place until the day of arrival, although I think I understand the reasoning.
I really REALLY dislike VRBO adding hefty fees for "additional guests" when the property is listed as accommodating that number of people. To me it seems like a "bait and switch," in that the cost of the place is one thing but the actual cost was VERY much more. Our host did not refund the money when two of our family members could not stay with us. They kindly refunded half.
The apartment was very clean but I would recommend wiping down the woodwork, esp. in the bathroom.
The picture showed a whole house, but it was an apartment with an extra room. Perhaps it stated somewhere that there were four apartments in the house, but I did not see that, so was surprised when we arrived.
That is it. Thank you for a nice stay.
My family and I enjoyed our stay at MaiLan hale. Check in was easy and the host, Trihn, communicates well with me from pre-booking till we left. My family loves to cook our own food so the house is equipped with good kitchen essentials from cookware, utensils, salt and other seasonings and we appreciated it. Also, we had to go back and forth to the baseball field because my fiancé played in the tournament. It was hot outside but the house having AC in all rooms and living room is a plus! Although it might be hot when you first go inside, we didn’t really mind as it is natural (Hawaii is hot) it starts to cool off when you get the AC going. The location is good, next to town, gas station, stores, and we took some nice shots on the balcony at sunset. I would recommend this 3-bedroom to big families who’d want a little getaway and we’d definitely book again when we visit Kona in the future.
