Great place! Jonas and Hanna were wonderful hosts.
Our stay was fantastic, Jonas is a great guy who was looking out for us and making sure we got the most out of our visit. He tagged all the good spots around the area for us so gps was a breeze, we were lucky enough to get a 4x4 ride around the local volcanic site which was well worth it. The property it's self is quite beautiful, though close to town it's got a lot of beautiful vegetation and frogs and sing through the night. We plan to see Jonas again when life brings us back to the island, Thank you again Jonas!
Jonas is an amazing entrepreneur
Aquaponist, educator, builder, host/ guest advocate. He learned our interests and guided us to the best local site as only local would know and enjoy a truly wonderful experience
Very comfortable space with all you could need. Wonderfully accommodating host.
Conveniently located.
Jonas is a great host. He tells a lot of usuful information you need for stay at big island.
This is a nice, economical, decent place to stay. Centrally located between Hilo and Pahoa. (Keauu) Captain Jonas is a wonderful host with just the right amount of Aloha for his guests. Recommended - especially during drier months in this part of the Big Island.
Much need time away from the busyness of LA.
We have family here on Big Island and this spot was right up the street! We’ll definitely be back many more times!
Thanks Jonas Aloha for now :)
My wife and I recently stayed here from 9/23-9/27 as part of a big anniversary trip. First time out of the lower 48 since COVID and we wanted to stay on both sides of the island (it is a big island) and we wanted a real much needed getaway - and we got exactly what we were hoping for. It's a beautiful little cabin on a gated property a little off 130 that makes you feel like you're basically alone in a little slice of paradise. The owner/host next to there Jonas is the nicest guy ever and helped us feel at home. He has lots of solar stuff set up, cool lights around the property, very self sustaining including the water (he provides big jugs of water for drinking, tap is safe to cook with and brush teeth etc). There's hot water, but take quick showers. During our stay he gave us a really awesome locals driving tour of a lot of the aftermath of the 2018 lava flows as well as some interesting history and some other cool spots we surely wouldn't have seen on our own. We definitely recommend asking him about it.
The cabin was maybe a half hour from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which is worthy of at least a few days if you like to hike. Hilo is very close, and we easily explored the NE coast as far as Laupahoehoe Point (don't miss the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden). It is centrally located to really get to see a really cool area in the state that we thought was so exciting and beautiful.
The cabin is small just like the pictures show but great for couples for sure. The loft upstairs with the bed is where the AC is located and we were very happy with how comfortable it kept us upstairs and down too, and we like it cool. The ladder up to the loft is pretty easy, we went up and down once and were fine. Internet was top notch, which we tried not to use too much (I mean you're in Hawaii) but when we were being lazy and eating box Mac n Cheese a few times after a big day of hiking was nice. Speaking of kitchen, it's basic but we definitely got by fine. There's a microwave, a dual burner, a convection oven, and a coffee maker. There was something else under the microwave that I forgot what it was kinda looked like an air fryer type thing but not sure so don't hold me to that. Nice fridge and freezer.
In short, we loved it, and will hopefully be back again before too long. I say this in a positive way, as much as we loved it this place also might not be for everyone. But if it's for you, you're going to love it. Thank you so much Jonas!!
Amazing getaway! Very safe and quiet area with everything we needed, thank you again!
We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is so comfortable. They have a very comfortable bed in the loft with a fan and air conditioner next to it, which will cool of the whole cabin pretty well. Just the fans alone keep it cool enough in there. It's a lot cooler here than on the western side of the island and greener with the rainforest surrounding this place. There's palm and fruit trees all around the property with some fish tanks in the back. It's nice and dark there at night with a bunch of solar lights Jonas has set up around the property. We relaxed to the songs the coqui frogs at night and were greeted in the morning by geckos and lizards around the front porch. Jonas was very welcoming and told us about a bunch of places to see nearby.
