Hale Akala, an historic Hawaiian house, nestled on cool mountain slopes over looking Kona, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, was the perfect get away for our party of 12. Full kitchen, 3 full bathrooms, and four separate sleeping areas, easily accommodated 4 generations of our family gathering. Am looking forward to coming back again.
We enjoyed our stay so very much. The property fit everyone perfectly and the location was great for us. We shall be back in the future. Mahalo, Mahalo! The Aldridge Family
We had a great stay and enjoyed our time at Hale Akala. The house was charming and very well equipped. It had all if the supplies we needed for a relaxing trip. We also enjoyed meeting Lisa and learning about the house and the coffee roasting process.
Our stay at Lisa’s home was fantastic! The house was impeccably clean and well-stocked with everything we needed. Lisa responded quickly and was very accommodating. She has a beautiful home that was very relaxing and the view was spectacular!!!
Our family had a wonderful week long stay at this beautiful historic Hawaiian home. It was a perfect gathering place for us while exploring the Kona coast. We happened to be there on the first Friday of the month for Holualoa's night market when all of the galleries were open and they featured live music. We loved the layout of the house and the beautiful original artwork throughout the house. There are a number of window seats from which to relax and enjoy the views. The lanai was very relaxing and has a territorial view. The sunsets were amazing. The kitchen is beautiful and well stocked. The house comes with useful items including cooking and food items along with a full assortment of beach items such as chairs, beach umbrella, snorkel gear, and boogie boards. The layout of the house worked well with our group and we all thought it was such a nice stay. Communication with Lisa was wonderful and she answered all of our questions and made us feel very welcome.
Majestic views of Kailua-Kona coupled with a tranquil park-like setting. This was simply the perfect place for our family to reconnect.
Our stay at this incredible property on the Big Island was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the sheer beauty of the estate. The home is impeccably maintained, with gorgeous artwork and meticulous attention to detail evident in every corner. It truly felt like we were staying in our family’s private Hawaiian estate—a perfect blend of luxury and comfort. The kitchen and bathrooms were lovely and exceptionally well-appointed, making it easy to cook and relax in style. The property provided plenty of space for our multigenerational family to enjoy each other’s company while still offering room to spread out and unwind individually. Whether gathering in the living areas or exploring the stunning grounds, there was something for everyone.A special mention goes to Lisa, who facilitated our stay seamlessly. Her care and responsiveness made everything even more enjoyable. This property is a dream destination, and we enjoyed anj unforgettable family getaway!
Lisa is the perfect host and we stayed at the perfect home for the 10 of us. Thank you Lisa!

Beautiful ancestral family home with stunning views.
We stayed Iron Man week, 8 adults, and location was perfect, away from all the crowd but also just a short drive. The place had amazing view, love the updated kitchen, had everything we needed for laundry, snorkeling, towels and welcome basket included Kona coffee😀. The property had a lot if history, lots of fruit trees we didn’t even know about. Host, Lisa, was very responsive & helpful. We definitely recommend this property.
We were thrilled to return to this lovely property, and to introduce family to the Big Island and this Holualoa gem. With so many comfy places to enjoy the gorgeous ocean view, such an extensive library and so much lovely art to study it was hard to leave the house. The grounds were just as gorgeous. We could not have asked for a better place to bring our family!
We really enjoyed our stay. 7 adults, plenty of space. A very unique property in a great setting. Best VRBO stay ever! Would highly recommend. Lisa was great as well.
The home is a special place and the grounds and view are spectacular! Our family enjoyed every minute of our stay at this beautiful property. The lanai and the lawn views of the sunset are absolutely breathtaking. Thank you for making this a perfect stay Lisa. We will be back!
We had an amazing time at Lisa’s home. So much charm and character. It was perfect for our family of nine. The views were spectacular especially the evening sunsets. Would definitely stay here again.
This house offered a really unique stay in Hawaii. The plantaion house provided the feel of what old Hawaii must have been like. We were all very comfortable and the kitchen might be better equiped than our home. The location provided easy access to the Kona attractions and the yard was spectacular. Lisa was great to coordinte with and also provided a tour of her coffee roasting operation.
The house is beautiful and location is great! There are a ton of extras provided to help enjoy the island (snorkel gear, beach chairs/towels, etc.). There were lots of extras in the kitchen as well (spices, condiments, cooking oils, leftover and unopened stuff from prior guests, etc.) to lessen our grocery bill as we did a lot of cooking. Lisa and her daughter were lovely and provided extra candles and helped out where they could when electricity in the area went out (completely out of everyone’s control). All kids and adults really made some great memories in the house and we miss it already!
The home is cozy with a beautiful view!
Lisa is an amazing and attentive hostess. We had no idea how awesomely charismatic and charming this how was actually going to be. The house has stunning views and many interesting things to look at. Beautiful art everywhere and many comfy places to relax. My family spent most of our time in the kitchen and lanai.
The cupboards are stocked with many helpful things from spices to sunblock also all the beach things you might need.
I would highly recommend staying in this home. My entire family enjoyed the stay and Lisa has awesome recommendations on what to do around the island.
Thank you Lisa
We greatly enjoyed our time in this house. The view was fantastic, the accommodations acceptable, and the host friendly and responsive. We especially liked exploring the grounds, and the kids and young adults loved gathering new and mysterious fruits.
When it's humid, the house can be a bit uncomfortable. The dropoff at the driveway from the road is intimidating. The roads to get to it are windy and hilly.
House was perfect for our stay with three couples. The views were wonderful and it was nice to spend evenings visiting in a cooler environment. The house is unique with lots of history and character.
We found everything we needed for four adults and four kids at Lisa’s house, from tons of beach toys and towels to a welcome bag of coffee, plus there was plenty of space ( actually ended up with a whole bedroom to spare). The house absolutely lives up to the pictures and Lisa was easy to reach for any minor issues or questions that came up. The kids loved playing in the giant field outside, and the grown-ups loved drinking coffee looking out the giant picture windows. the house really feels welcoming and like a home. The drive up the mountain was quick, grocery store was convenient, and overall we were extremely happy with our stay.
Fabulous home. Plenty of room for our group of 8 adults. Better than the pictures and description online. Fully stocked kitchen and bathrooms. 3 large bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. Comfortable beds. Beautifully decorated, art covering the walls, lovely vintage furniture. Large living room and dining rooms which we barely used. Spent most of our time in the spacious kitchen and charming lanai. We were there in January, so Hawaii is cooler, but rooms were comfortable during the day and cool at night. Conveniently located near everything in Kona, but in a nice residential neighborhood, with view of the ocean. Lisa was easy to deal with.I could go on, but just a wonderful home. It's an older home, but well maintained. Roosters do crow starting early in the AM.Would definitely stay there again.Everyone in our group loved the house.
Our family had a wonderful stay here and would love to come back in the future. Charming historic Hawaiian home with modern updates, stylish furnishings, unique artwork, and breathtaking views. Clean home with nice extras for beach and snorkeling. Host Lisa was very kind and accommodating.
Two families enjoyed the wonderful house! More than enough space for 9 people. Lisa was a great host, answering all our questions and giving recommendations. The property is beautiful and the sunset on the lanai is breathtaking. If we ever come back to Kona, we would definitely stay in the “pink house” again!
We had such a lovely time staying on Lisa’s property for Christmas this year. Lisa had the house decorated for Christmas time and it was like a home away from home! Situated a short walk from the town of Holualoa, the property overlooks Kilua-Kona and the ocean making for some epic sunsets. The home itself is beautiful and has all the character and charm of an older Hawaiian property. Given the amount of bedrooms and extra beds, my family of 8 was very comfortable with the layout and led to a wonderful vacation for all. Highlights were the kitchen area where we were able to make a Christmas dinner, the fresh fruit from the property that Lisa provided for us, the beautiful views sitting on the lanai, and the media room where we could watch our Baltimore Ravens play on Christmas Day. Overall, I would recommend Lisa’s property to anyone looking to have wonderful stay on the Kona-side of Hawaii.
One thing to note is that there are chickens on the property so be prepared for an early wake up from the rooster. They didn’t bother us much since we are from EST so the early wake up helped fight jet lag. Also, given that the property is higher in the mountain, the tree frogs are also pretty loud at night. After a while though, it’s almost like a sound machine putting you to bed. Neither of these things bothered my family, but are good to note if you’re sensitive to sound at night.
Really cool place. Fruits off the trees, animals, walks around the property, dinners in the big kitchen with sunset views, kids reading in the book nook, short drive from house in country to town.
No problems, great time.
Great place with plenty of room and nice outdoor areas. Host is accommodating and friendly
We traveled to Kona for our daughter’s wedding. The property met our needs perfectly and Lisa was a fabulous host. We loved the space where we could wonder and explore.
