Overall it was a great stay. Host was very communicative and responsive. The home has a unbeatble oceanfront/sunrise view right from the bedroom, which was my favorite part of the stay. Although it would have been nice if there were shades/curtains installed on those sliding doors so we wouldn't get woken up by the sunlight after sunrise. Some items in the home are due for a proper cleaning/upgrade: the water faucets and soap holder are rusted; towels smell like they have been left in the washer for too long before moving to the dryer; there is bird poop on the back of the sofa chair in the master bedroom; the handsoap seemed to have been watered down, the shade on the front door is torn... Besides these minor and tolerable points, we had a pleasant stay and a nice trip on the big island.
Beautiful ocean front location with frequent dolphin sightings. Terrific cook’s kitchen enables delicious dinners on great patio overlooking the ocean. Super bathroom and primary bedroom overlooking ocean for magnificent sunrises.
The house had everything we needed in order to enjoy our stay. It was very easy to get in and out of the neighborhood, although it was a shame to ever leave, as we were entertained by porpoises, sea turtles, nene's, breathtaking sunrises and amazing surf. The back patio was a great place to start and end each day. The property manager provided many great recommendations for things to do and places to eat in the area.
Very pleasant stay overlooking the ocean. Had everything we needed, good access to Hilo and Volcanoes National Park.Keep the doors closed after sunset (bugs!) and you'll have a great time.
This home is well-appointed and the location is wonderful. The sunrises are spectacular! The property is just as it’s described and we enjoyed our stay. I would absolutely stay here again.
We’ve been fortunate to stay in many properties along the cliffs in HPP, and this house ranks in the top 1 or 2 consistently! You have everything you need, plenty of room and views, views, views! I could sit and listen to the the waves, frogs and birds forever.
Extremely comfortable and well equipped. Perched on the lava cliff having morning coffee and evening cocktails on the lanai, simply breathtaking. My only wish is that we could have stayed longer.
The home is beautiful and situated perfectly for a relaxing vacation. The weather was perfect for walks along the ocean, watching the whales and visiting sites in the area.
Our stay was absolutely perfect! We were looking for gorgeous, peaceful, romantic surroundings to celebrate Valentine’s Day and a milestone birthday. “Home By The Sea” was everything we hoped for as it is outside of the busy crowded tourist areas. Once we learned to look for whales and dolphins we saw them right of the back lanai every day. If you like to hike, there is a little beach with sand and 20 to 30 Sea turtles at the end of a 2 1/2 mile hike on the Puna Trail. Full disclosure, the hike is muddy in spots with lots of rocks but SO worth it!
This was our second time staying in this beautiful home. If you enjoy relaxing on the patio, listening to the ocean and watching for whales, this place is perfect. It’s an easy drive up to Volcanoes National Park (we were able to see the Kīlauea eruption!) or into Hilo. We have really fallen in love with this area of the big island. Besides the ocean view this house is great: comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen, plenty of space. Terry was easy to communicate with. We would definitely stay here again.
We had a lovely stay at this home and enjoyed walks in the neighborhood. The place was well equipped, super clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The views simply cannot not be beat!
We loved the Hale Hale'ai House. It had plenty of room for our family of 5. The house was immaculate and has an awesome view of the ocean. We saw several whales which was a highlight of our vacation.
Spectacular views! Very clean and modern. Great communication with the property manager. Only downside was that the pool was no longer at the property. We would stay again for sure!
Loved this house so much that we cancelled outing plans one evening so we could just hang out and enjoy the gorgeous views and amazing house. Everything you need is provided, house was spotless, beds so comfy and words can’t describe how magnificent the view is. Had coffee in the mornings on the lanai and wine in the evenings. Saw turtles swimming right below the cliffs.
Checkin process was so easy and property managers very responsive and easy to work with. Would highly recommend this beautiful home to anyone looking for a top notch place to stay on the Hilo side of the Big Island.
This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve stayed at. We stayed five nights here with our adult children. It was fantastic! The ocean pounding the cliffs outside was so relaxing. The home is immaculate, so clean and well maintained. We had everything we needed and more. Plenty of space and bathrooms for our family. I would definitely recommend this home for your vacation.
My only issue was the size of the swimming pool. We were disappointed that it was so small. In the photos it appears to be large enough for a group to hang out in. But sadly it was a lot smaller than we expected. It’s a quarter of the size it appears to be.

We stayed here for our 2nd half of our Big Island trip, after staying in Waikoloa. It was a beautiful. The house was awesome and the views and sounds of the ocean were mesmerizing. We would love to come back and stay again.
We had a great stay at this house. The weather was a bit iffy, so didn't see the sunrise. But amazing house overall. We felt like we were home the minute we stepped in.
This property was quite simply spectacular! The home was impeccably furnished, not a single amenity was overlooked, and the entire property was meticulously clean and beautifully landscaped. We came for utter relaxation and to immerse ourselves in the natural beauty and tranquility that is Hawaii and we were utterly satisfied. The peaceful hours sitting on the patio watching the ocean along with the plentiful wildlife from birds to whales, dolphins and sea turtles was a much needed respite from the worries of the world. The neighborhood was quiet and felt truly welcoming. Thank you, it was a true pleasure.
We love returning to this amazing gem of a home. The home is situated on the edge of a cliff, absolutely perfect for morning coffee and whale watching. It has everything you need, including extremely comfortable beds, and is extremely clean. We will always return.

This home was lovely with gorgeous views. We cooked dinner 2 nights and used the grill. Only issue was the kitchen/family room AC was not working and was reported to the property management company. We could run the fan, but it was warm while making dinner. Both bedrooms with AC were working great and no complaints there. The house was stocked with plenty of dishes, storage containers and pots and pans which was great. We also appreciated the basic pantry staples of seasonings and cooking sprays/oils. We enjoyed our stay and would definetly stay here again.
