We recently stayed at this VRBO in Kona, and the highlight of the property is, without a doubt, the lanai. We spent most of our time there, soaking up sunsets and enjoying the ocean views. If you love outdoor spaces and don’t mind spending your vacation mostly outside, this place might suit you well.
We found the inside of the house very musty/dusty, it is definitely something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to dust or allergens. We knew it had no AC, but we had to make a Walmart run to buy air-purifying spray. We also ended up buying two large box fans since the ones provided were either too small, didn’t work, and were very dirty. For the price of the rental, we expected better upkeep. We messaged the host asking if there were options for us if we decided not to stay due to the dust leading to sinus issues for one of us. We were told they needed to speak to the owners, but unfortunately, we didn't hear any further so just dealt with it best we could.
If you’re all about the view and are okay with the quirks of tropical living, this place has its charms. But for the price, be aware of the trade-offs. This rental could be perfect for sunset lovers and lanai enthusiasts, but travelers with allergies or higher expectations for cleanliness and upkeep might want to explore other options.

Loved my stay here. Nice and close to Kona downtown. Private. Perfect cottage feel. Could use a few blinds on the deck to shade from the late day sun. Significant road noise from the bedrooms, but none out back. Would definitely return.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. My husband and I stayed 10 days here for our 10 year annniversay trip and have never felt more at home at a vacation rental than we did here. The house is everything you want it to be. The locationnis perfect. Its private, quiet, and clean. The ocean views and daily sunsets were magical. We spent each day adventuring around Kona and couldnt wait to settle home here on the Lanai watching the sunset and having dinner listening to the waves, watching the survers, the sealife and the relaxation. I cant tell you how many times my husband fell asleep out there! When we come back to Kona we will look to book this place again. THANK YOU so much for givingnus a home away from home!

We had a great week; the house was just our speed -- not too fancy, but comfortable and easy. The porch/lanai is beautiful! Our only complaint is that the mattresses on the bunk bed aren't too comfy; the other single bed is fine.
This home is a Hawaiian dream. It was spotless and lovingly maintained... incredibly well stocked with everything you could want. The lanai is where we lived...day and night...it doesnt get better than this. Surfing to the left and to the right!!
We loved our week spent in Kona. This vintage cottage was perfect for our family of 4 (including 2 teenagers). The lanai and private bay were so peaceful and relaxing we spent all of our time here when not scuba diving or mountain biking. Heidi was the best host and was very quick to provide recommendations and answer questions. We really hope to return to this amazing property!

We had the loveliest stay at this property. Location was central to everything. Home was quaint, clean and host responded immediately at all questions. She truly went above and beyond. You cannot beat the sunsets from the deck and my children loved exploring the rocks and water ‘pools’ created by waves. It was a wonderfully memorable experience.

We have been fortunate enough to stay at several amazing properties in Kona throughout the years. However, none of them can compare to this property. The Kona Sunshine property is truly special. And, I cannot say enough about Heidi, as she was a great host throughout our stay.
The location was amazing. We would listen to the waves crashing at night and see the surfers in the morning. It was an easy jog into Kona for food and fun. Snorkeling in the area was great. We visited over Christmas and, overall, we had a fantastic time in Kona!

Great little cabin on the beach. The patio is awesome. You don't need to drive anywhere to have a wonderful and relaxing ocean vacation. It is next door to a nice little park. Only negative is that the road behind the house is a bit loud at night.

The view from the patio is incredible. We spent hours enjoying the beautiful sunsets, rainbows, and surfers. We also enjoyed the tide pools directly in front of the house. The location is perfect near Kona and several nice snorkeling beaches.
