The Umauma Experience Grand Melemele Home is Your Hawaiian Destination. It is located near Hilo, but far from The Real World. At 3300 sq. ft., 3 beds & 3 bath, it offers plenty of room for everyone to enjoy times together & to have their own space, if needed the downstairs office has a sofa bed to meet your needs.

This home offers a fully-enclosed 730 sq. ft. two-car garage in the back which is connected to the home by a covered walkway. At the front, pass under the white arbor, up the sidewalk & up the stairs to the magnificent covered wraparound lanai (porch).
As you enter, you’ll realize the palatial size of this luxurious home. To your left, the great room will draw you in. The sitting area is complete with its own fireplace. Look ahead & see the expansive combination of your living room, dining room & kitchen.
This home will pamper you as you lounge around the large screen television which is amply supplied with cable service & a dvd player. If you should decide that you need to connect with the real world there’s WIFI service throughout the home. Landline telephones are provided for local calls, too.
The dining set will certainly serve as your base from which to investigate all things Hawaiian in the culinary universe: from fresh-caught fish, to locally grown exotic fruits & vegetables, to Big Island raised beef, to local favorites. Whether you cook it yourself or get take-out, you’ll soon find out that everything tastes better on the Big Island! It’s hard to miss the exquisite vented Viking range/oven & all of the space to use it. There’s even your own private big island ready for preparing, mixing, enjoying & complete with views of the dining and living areas.
Continuing through the lower level, you’ll find the complete laundry room with a washer/dryer and the classy restroom with a shower. Finally, you’ll arrive at the downstairs office where you’ll find a comfortable queen-sofa bed complemented by a nice desk & more fine furniture.
You’ll now appreciate a few things that you may have missed as you entered: the grand entryway & staircase are now inviting you to ascend to the upper level. Up top, you’ll soon notice the unique library and its views of the sparkling blue ocean. Beyond, you’ll find two more large bedrooms with queen-sized beds & more wonderful furniture. You’ll find a well-designed restroom with a tub & a shower.
The master bedroom features a king-sized bed which has its own sitting area & a walk-in closet. This elegant master bathroom is an architectural experience all its own. Outfitted with a clawfoot roll top bathtub, it’s a restroom built for two: dual sinks & adjustable dual shower heads in a gigantic tile & glass-block shower.
Follow the covered walkway, step into the lavish round swimming pool that will melt your stress & re-energize your spirit! Swimming in this pool will feel like a beauty treatment for your skin, hair & body. Rinse off under the convenient poolside shower, relax at the patio set on the covered back lanai & fire up the grill for dinner.
The famous Umauma Falls is only minutes away. Honoli’i, a top surfing spot is just down the road. Galleries, shops & museums abound in Honomu & Hilo. Don’t forget to watch for whales & dolphins. Explore the areas several beaches ready for you to do anything or nothing at all! The possibilities are endless.

We enjoyed our stay. The house is spacious. We had 6 adults and 2 kids staying here. It is in a good location. It is near beaches, waterfalls and downtown. The yard is large for kids to run around. The communication with Jolanta was excellent. The only thing is that you must bring anything you might need-spices, pods for coffee, Kleenex, shampoo. There were garbage bags and paper towels though. There were towels for the pool but you must bring your own beach towels. I would recommend this house if you are coming with a family.

The few elements that were of concern pertain to the cleanliness/ functionality of the cooking facilities. We intended to grill on the final night of our stay and found the BBQ was unusable, with some kind of mold/ mushroom growing throughout the appliance. The vents above the kitchen cooktop need a deep cleaning, as there is a lot of grease buildup. We also found that some of the pans hadn't been fully cleaned and a mildew was growing on them.

We did enjoy our stay with some minor improvements needed. Number one impressive kitchen from photos but oven and cooktop were difficult to operate. We never did get either ovens to work. Poorly out fitted no vegetable peeler or box grater. Blender was broken and three chipped wine glasses only. This was rectified within 24 hours. No plastic ware for outdoor pool area. BBQ only had one propane tank with no spare to be found. Given the distance back to Hilo and the fact that ovens didn’t work could have been an issue. No paper products ie serviettes Kleenex available.Or cling film foil wrap either. As well single mini soaps and tiny hotel size bottles of shampoo were only provided. But we enjoyed the beautiful grounds and hope you will outfit the VRBO with some of the missing items.
