Wailoa River State Park is directly next door, and Hilo Bayfront Beach Park, Lili'uokalani Gardens, restaurants, cafes, and shops are all within a mile. It is a smart, uncomplicated stay for two travelers who want Hilo's local rhythm outside the door and a refreshed place to come home to.
The Space:
This compact studio is thoughtfully arranged with a sitting area and TV, a bistro dining spot, and a well-equipped kitchen with stainless appliances and maple cabinetry. The desk nook gives you a practical landing place for a laptop, while the shaded lanai is made for a quiet first coffee. Portable air conditioning keeps the space comfortable after a day exploring Hilo.
Guest Access:
Guests at Waiakea Villas enjoy access to the shared outdoor pool on Near Ocean, resort grounds on Hilo's east side. A private entrance, on site parking, and a lit path to the door make coming and going simple throughout your stay.
The Neighborhood:
Hilo is Hawai'i Island's lush, lived-in east-side town, where rain feeds gardens, waterfalls, and the enormous banyans around the bay. Wailoa River State Park offers easy walking paths and bridges, while the Hilo Farmers Market, local cafes, and Lili'uokalani Gardens are all close to town. Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls are worthwhile drives when you want to see the green side of the island at full force. This is a good fit for couples who value local food, slower mornings, and day trips through rainforest country.
Getting Around:
Hilo is just about 10 minutes from Hilo International Airport, making it one of the most convenient Big Island bases. A rental car is recommended for reaching Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the lush Hamakua Coast, though downtown Hilo itself is quite walkable, with farmers markets, local shops, and waterfront dining within easy reach on foot. Parking is generally simple, with street spots and small lots nearby.

We’ve stayed in this unit several times during my husband’s part time work engagements. It is always exactly as advertised, very comfortable for two people with enough supplies to make it convenient for a multiple week stay and plenty of storage space for what we need to bring with us for that period of time. We love the location, the complex, the beauty of the grounds, and the location. Great place for us, and we’ll definitely stay there again!

The condo is small but very well designed with plenty of spaces to tuck away luggage, closet and shelf space for clothing, bathroom cabinets and drawer space, etc. There is a very comfortable reclining love seat and smart tv in the living area and a small but well stocked kitchen. We come to Hilo a few times a year for work and stay for two weeks at a time, and it is important to us to feel like we can unpack completely and “live” there rather than being tourists. This is a very nice place to do that.
Good Location and less than an hour to The Park. Super close to the airport which was great since I had a 7 am flight out on Sunday.

Loved the Big Island and found the condo to be very quiet and clean. Perfect!
The property was nice enough. Not quitw enough to do in Hilo. Plenty of good/decent places to eat. The rain was more than enough.
The property was very clean and had all amenities you would need. The only thing I would change is to have a washer and dryer in the unit. They were available at the complex just not in the actual unit. Besides that, it had everything you needed for your stay.
Loved the communication, and location
Loved the chickens! The condo was great...clean, modern, well appointed. Everything we needed was nearby i.e. no service, shop or restaurant was further away from the property than 3 miles including the beaches. Owner very responsive as was the onsite property manager. Great pool! The only negative was the doors and outside moldings of many of the other units could use some cleaning and painting, though. Otherwise, the entire facility was excellent. We highly recommend it!
Nice pool, no hot tub. Unit is much smaller than description and pictures make out. Not suitable for more than 2 small people. Futon couch is tiny (twin/single) and short.
