Laurel was extremely gracious and so kind. The space was very welcoming and the perfect vacation getaway. Very clean and comfortable space as well. I can’t imagine a hawaii vacation anywhere else!
7 days straight and absolutely 0 complaints. Well kept, clean, and quiet. Awesome neighborhood also surrounded by 10 acre farms. Can’t say enough….I didn’t know about a pool, but I am sure it’s as good as the everything g else so I gave it a 5 also.
Clean comfortable space, great recommendations for places to visit nearby.
Will definitely stay here again! All I can really say it the it was Perfect!
Welcoming. Clean. Air conditioner and all appliances worked well. Safe. Beautiful
We only stayed one night but would have loved to stay longer had we had the time. The cottage and property were absolutely beautiful, offered everything we needed, and Laurel was a lovely hostess. The breakfast with fresh fruit grown on site was a perfect way to get acquainted with Hawaii. We had to google what some of the fruit was and how to eat them. So much fun, and super fresh and delicious. Great experience!
Safe, clean, peaceful, cozy, with all amenities you need. Communication was great as well. The fresh fruit and banana bread are such a nice gift upon arrival. Much appreciated and would stay again. Mahalo Nui
We had an amazing stay at this beautiful Hilo property! The lush surroundings and well-maintained grounds made it a stunning retreat. We felt incredibly safe throughout our visit, which added to the overall comfort. The owner was responsive and approachable, making us feel we could reach out anytime with questions or needs. A delightful bonus was the fresh fruit provided, which was a perfect touch of local flavor. Highly recommend this gem for anyone visiting Hilo!
Just as described. Thank you Laurel and Kelani again for sharing your space with us. About a 25 minute drive into Hilo.
A little drive north out of Hilo Check in and communications with host was easy and helpful. Property was as advertised and very relaxing. Loved the location!Definitely would stay again!
I would NEVER stay here or recommend another to do so. The WORST experience I’ve ever had and I’ve been booking through Expedia for 10+ years, so I can say this with honesty and assurance to all future possible customer. • Owner has a dog kennel business on the same property. BARKING of dogs all THROUGHOUT the NIGHT. • Her rental place is not at all meant for 3 people. Third guest will end up sleeping on an inch thick futon or a hard and a very uncomfortable sleeper sofa. I had to ORDER an air MATTRESS online at Walmart for my daughter so I had to move a piece of furniture in the living room, and the owners trying to CHARGE for that! • SHEETS looked as they were burnt on the ends, and RIPPED on all corners. Owner CHARGED $40 for these damages however this was done prior to our arrival and we were the ones inconvenienced by this!! • Coffee maker needs a thorough cleaning as it was very dirty. The owner provides hot plates for cooking. • There is NO “FREE BREAKFAST”. You will be provided with some fruit and banana nut cake on your arrival. Do NOT book unless you want a NIGHT OF TERRIBLE SLEEP, COMPLETE DISRESPECT BY THE OWNER, HAVE A FAMILY OF 3+. Lots of false advertising.
Thx nice place
Great place to relax
We had a really nice stay here for 2 nights-we spent the days out exploring and came back to clean up for dinner. We didn't experience any disruptive noise from the kennels and the yard was nice with birds. We met the owner a couple times and she was kind. Everything was clean and they left fruit and homemade bread for us which was perfect for breakfast. Thank you!
We enjoyed the fruit and bread when we arrived, a great touch! Sauna was easy to use and enjoyable. Loved exploring chin chuck.
Was perfect for trip - quiet and peaceful with easy access to Hilo and the rest of the area.
Amazing! So clean and comfortable—felt like home!
What a lovely place to stay! We usually stay in Kona but we’re hoping to see some Volcano action so chose to stay a couple of nights closer to Hilo. Now I wish we had stayed here the whole time. Yes you hear the frogs but with the windows closed you barely hear them. It’s a very green, beautiful property. So nice to sit on the lanai and enjoy the surroundings. The hosts left a tasty variety of local fruit and the delicious banana bread. You have access to water and ice too. We would definitely stay there again.
The Royal Palms was very comfortable. We especially enjoyed relaxing on the patio with a view of the amazing palm trees. Laurel was a great host! She provided us with items if we were missing anything in the suite and welcomed us to use the ice and filtered water from her outdoor fridge. We were delighted with the attractive and delicious fruit tray that was on the table when we arrived. We would highly recommend a stay at The Royal Palms.
A great stay was a little worried landlord was living on the property but they were very respectful of space.
Beautiful property to stay in!
The cottage was nice, clean, and the fruit and banana bread were great!
The home was lovely and the property gorgeous. The description does mention the dogs, we closed the windows and used the AC at night and all was perfect.
Place was clean and comfortable. We loved the local fruit bowl. We would return and stay here again!
The accommodation was perfect for just me, or if I had my wife with me. Large bed, large closet, spacious bathroom, and a good-sized common area. I was greeted with a handwritten note with some homemade banana bread ( I think), a cluster of bananas, a couple of ripe papaya, and a few oranges. The private lanai was peaceful, and the grounds were lovely. The hosts are on site, but other than an initial hello when I arrived, I did not see or hear from them the entire stay. The property is 8 acres up on a slope, with views (through the trees) of the ocean several miles away. If you are looking for a country getaway, this is your spot. If you are looking for something close to town, keep looking.
My wife and I stayed at Royal Palms from November 8 to November 11 and had a wonderful time! Check in was very easy. A warm welcome note with a scrumptious fruit basket set a welcoming ohana feeling that was just right. The grounds and landscaping provided a lovely, tropical, and peaceful setting with relaxing nature sounds at night. The cottage decorum is elegantly casual with an awesome dry sauna and well appointed lanai. The Royal Palms cottage is definitely on our favorites list for big Island accommodations. Hosts Lauren and Kalani love this place and it shows! Aloha and mahalo nui!
Very relaxing unit, Easy access, host was very accommodating, clean
Cute rental unit on farm in Hakalau. Good for people who want to be in a less touristy country environment. Laurel was very pleasant.
close to Akaka falls, Town of hilo was ~ 1/2 hour away. beautiful yard with those tall palm trees! wish we had more time to spend on the Big Island! Owner greeted us on arrival and also left us fresh fruit too! The house is cozy and clean. please leave your shoes outside as to not get the house dirty. only thing- if you come back in the evening, there are bugs, so close the door right away
The place is charming. The setting is beautiful and convenient for visiting the Hilo area. The fruit and banana bread are delicious. As advertised, there is a kennel on the property, and during our stay, the dogs (and frogs) were particularly loud during the night (new puppies). But Laurel kindly apologized, and the listing gives fair warning.
House has charm. Beautiful area. New puppies are cute.
We were greeted with a tray of fruit that included a welcome note and some delicious food stuffs that made us feel welcomed & comforted right away! The giant trees and greenery on the property makes you feel what it’s truly like to be in Hawaii. The space is very clean, the rules/expectations are fair. I would recommend this location 10/10 to any of my loved ones. Thanks again!
We loved sitting on the deck in the mornings enjoying our coffee before heading out for a busy day with family. Thank you!
The property, the tropical fruit grown on it, and the hosts themselves, were wonderful. We truly loved it all.
Laurel was easy to work with, helpful and gave a lovely tour of her property. My favorite parts include the aisle of tall palms, the sound of the rain, frogs, and birds at night, and of course enjoying the sauna. Mahalo nui loa!
We enjoyed our stay at the Royal Palm Cottage to explore the wet side. Lots of activites, highlights include the fruit basket, bioreserve, carlsmith, Pauls Place, Papaaloa Country Store (pizza & music), rainfall at night, and the lovely gardens at the cottage. Laurel is very accommodating. Many thanks!
Laurel was a very friendly host. We enjoyed stay and the tour on the property, also the fruits Laurel provided to us. I highly recommend.
Very quiet and peaceful and the host was very accommodating
Stayed two nights in Dec 2023. Beautiful yard, great location. Very clean and it has all the stuffs you would need. Owners are very friendly and accommodating; we even got a tour on the property in the morning of check out day. But air conditioner in the living room is pretty loud. Sofa bed can only fit one person and it’s not very comfortable if you are adult and have to sleep on the floor mats. In overall, it’s a great place.
I really liked the unit. Laurel was a gracious host and a joy to meet. Thank you Laurel for your help and suggestions. I highly recommend her property.
Beautiful property and great location
I stayed here the end of April with my son, and it worked out very well. Weather was great. Location was peaceful.
The property is fantastic! We loved our stay here
Opening this cottage to us tourists is truly a gift. A very clean boutique Hawaiian style home. We enjoyed Laurel’s famous banana bread w/ lemon butter & the fresh fruits grown on the property here. The view from the living room of Royal palm tree groves was beautiful. I think we took a selfie there like everyday. We had fun walking along the side to see the ocean view @ the edge of the property. The sauna was very cool. On our trip we saw the volcano & lava at the end of the devastation road. Akaka & Rainbow falls, 2 farmers markets & 2 beaches. Plus experienced many of the stores & restaurants the owner recommended. We met many great people on this island. They always left the light on for us & made us feel like part of the Ohana.
Nature sounds are expected but I had no idea upon booking that there was a dog kennel on the property with large , loud dogs. These dogs woke us multiple times throughout the night. Exhausted the following day-- would not recommend.
Great place to stay when visiting Hilo and surrounding areas. We were welcomed with a basket of fresh, local fruits and homemade banana bread - delicious.
Property owners were very welcoming.
