Within minutes, you can stroll along Hilo Bay, browse the Hilo Farmers Market for local fruit and crafts, or enjoy island-roasted coffee at a café downtown.
The neighborhood blends peaceful residential streets with the natural beauty of Wailoa River State Recreation Area, nearby beaches like Carlsmith (right outside the door), Richardson Ocean Park, and Onekahakaha, and easy access to volcano adventures at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park (about 45 minutes away).
By night, the air cools, the sky fills with stars, and you’ll feel what locals call the “old Hawaiʻi” rhythm — calm, friendly, and unhurried. Hilo is the perfect home base to explore waterfalls, black-sand beaches, lava tubes, and all the hidden gems of the Big Island’s east coast.

A car is recommended to explore the island. Uber and Lift are possible to and from the Airport.

Loved the location. We were able to see a few turtles. Easy communication with the host.
Great location with convenient ocean access, and easy parking near the elevator—definitely the highlights of the stay. However, cleanliness was an issue. The bed sheets were visibly dirty upon arrival, the toilet was also dirty, there was hair in the shower, and spiders in several ceiling corners.The host was responsive, replaced the sheets the next day, and issued a refund for the cleaning fee, which we appreciated. With better attention to cleaning, this would be a much stronger stay.
The location of the condo was nice - right at Carlsbad Beach. However, it is not a private beach as stated in the listing, but a public beach that was quite crowded. The condo was clean but it is quite dated. Many of the pots and pans were old and scratched, there was an oven pan that was so caked with previous residual from whatever was baked on it, it was unusable. One bedroom faces the ocean and you have the ocean sounds at night, but the second bedroom faces the street and it was so loud at night, my son had difficulty sleeping. The hosts were responsive - we had an issue with parking and they cleared it up quickly.
The condo was beautiful. And the ocean amazing. The owners were very kind and responsive.
When we vacation we don’t spend much time in the places we rent. With that being said, our time spent in the condo was everything we needed. Location to the water was perfect, couldn’t be any closer. Communication with owners was fast and on point. Had one concern with parking, but was taken care of in a timely manner.
Pool was not heated. Sliding door screen wouldn’t stay on the track - it was missing a wheel. No grab bars for safety getting out of bathtub/shower. Never understood how to watch Xumo or FireTV. Aside from that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Hawaii
We enjoyed our stay here while we were in Hilo. The condo was very clean nicely, decorated, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, and a beautiful view of the ocean and lush vegetation. The host was very welcoming and responsive and gave very clear instructions for getting in and out the unit. We will definitely stay here again my next trip to Hilo.

The instructions were clear on handing over and closing .Hosts were helpful and welcoming. Home was in good condition and presentable . We thank the host for making it a memorable trip for us at Hilo.
