Our Newly Renovated Estate Home in the quiet neighborhood of Hakalau invites our guest to relax and enjoy paradise in luxury. Please review my email exchanges with the host, which have been removed from my phone. Four adults and four children arrived to an unlighted house in a rural like dark setting at about 10 pm with no access code and no cell service. Driving back towards Hilo we reached VRBO who was unable to reach the host. We explored all the hotels in Hilo and all were full. Preparing to sleep in our cars, we finally got a reply from the host who admitted he had lost our reservation and so had not managed for our arrival. The next morning when he offered no recompense I suggested he remove the charge for the first night. After considering overnight he offered a 5% discount. I declined. Later I got notice of a small refund. Terrible hosting. The house was very well appointed and enjoyable. I would include the lack of cell service in the online description. Might be relevant to people with medical conditions for example. Or for those like us locked out at a late hour in the dark!

The property and the hosts are exactly what you want for a relaxing vacation on Hawaii. The host is very welcoming, responsive and hospitable offering great local recommendations and quickly answering a few questions we had during our stay. You can tell when you are a guest by the way the property is kept and the smaller touches that they care a lot about their guests. The property was perfect for a family holiday. Lots of room, privacy and close to a number of beautiful walks and sites. Each room is well appointed, the kitchen is newly remodeled and the space overall is very inviting. We also loved all the space on the front lawn for kids and sunbathing. We plan to come back again soon!!
The house was as listed and had all the amenities we were looking for. It was very spacious and clean and allowed our party to be comfortable.
