We loved our little jungle paradise. Close to so many things, yet far from the noise of civilization. The covered lanai surrounded by trees and flowers was the perfect getaway. An easy drive to Hilo, Volcano and Pahoa. We even drove to Waimea one day. Mary is a lovely and helpful hostess. We hope we have the opportunity to come here again.

Clean, comfortable, quiet and a wonderful host. I stayed here as its location was close to some houses I was interested in looking at. I was able to relax, get some work done and look at well kept garden. My host chatted with me and told me places to visit. Shopping mall was 15 minutes away. I will recommend my friends to stay here. Thank you Mary, for being a great host!!

Jade Ohana is a wonderful and inviting place to stay. It is like staying in a small 1 bedroom home in the middle of a botanical garden. Mary is a wonderful host, as is Lovebug the cat who will greet you when you come outside for your morning coffee. The ohana has a well equipped kitchen, complete with gas stove, microwave, coffee maker and a toaster oven. The bed is very comfortable. Waking up to the sounds of the jungle was wonderful. We hope to stay again.

The place was absolutely wonderful—spotlessly clean and equipped with all the amenities you could want for a cozy stay. The owner went above and beyond, always warm and welcoming, and even offered fresh fruits that added a lovely touch. It truly felt like a home away from home!

We really enjoyed our stay at Jay’s Ohana, it was so quaint and lovely. Perfect space for the two of us and the gardens were extraordinary. Mary placed fresh gardenia flowers out for us each day and gave us tips of where we might want to go and was able to answer all our questions. We enjoyed being able to eat outside on the patio among all the hibiscus, flowers and more. We will definitely reach out to stay here again when we return to the island.

We loved our stay at Jade Ohana! If you are looking for a quiet place to relax in a jungle garden setting, this is it. Mary welcomed us with a fruit tray and gave us several tips on things to see. The apartment is on the lower level of her house, with a separate driveway and entrance. It is not air conditioned, but this is typical of Hawaii and there were several fans to keep us cool. There is a small porch with wicker chairs that is a perfect place to enjoy the garden that surrounds her property. The property was about a half hour away from Hilo, a mile from a scenic, rocky shore, and less than an hour from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. And her very affectionate cat was there to greet us whenever we returned.

We have travelled to Hilo every April since 2008 to attend the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival. These were absolutely the best accommodations we have had in all these years. Mary’s place was very clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed. She greeted us upon our arrival and was available to help if ever we needed it. We returned to peace and quiet after long busy days of hula each night. I would love to return again.

We really enjoyed our host who was lovely, accommodating and responded to anything we needed as well as thoughtful about our privacy. The daylight lower apartment is nicely set up. The surrounding flowering garden is a delight. We were able to make meals on the stove and the refrigerator provided. It was in a neighborhood, so stores are 20 to 30 minutes away. But we appreciated the quiet. There was a lot to explore near Hilo and the Volcano National Park which is only thirty minutes away. A nice, clean and reasonably priced place to stay.

We stayed here on a vacation for nine days. The unit is conveniently located about halfway between Hilo downtown and the Hawai’i Volcano National Park. It is surrounded with beautiful tropical plants and pleasant bird chips, though we sometimes had to deal with little bugs that made their way from the vegetation into the apartment. The host is a very kind and responsive old lady.

Mary was an amazing host. She greeted me and my son with incredibly warmth as she made sure we were oriented and acquainted to our spot and the surrounding area. She was prepared with activity ideas, including unique activities in the area only available during our stay. Mary hit the perfect balance of making sure she was available for any need while also giving us spaciousness to relax and enjoy our time uninterrupted. Mary embodies the Aloha spirit. One of my favorite parts of my stay was reading the small pink Aloha philosophy booklet. Aloha is the "joyful sharing of life energy in the present moment." Mary has plenty of warm Aloha to share with her guests. If I come back to Hilo, I'll definitely stay with Mary again.

We had a lovely experience staying at this beautiful place hosted by Mary. The accomodation was very clean and safe. The garden outside was absolutely beautiful. Mary is a lovely host who took great care of us during our stay and was very responsive over text. She also had lot of tropical fruit from the garden for us to enjoy. We also enjoyed playing and petting Mary's cats. Would love to come back again!

Our host was great - she was very helpful, had some good information on the daily local events, and made sure we were well taken care of. The accommodations were comfortable, and the location tucked away in the rainforest was an excellent base for our adventures into Hilo and the Volcano Park. There was even a cute cat that would come visit us every morning. Highly recommended.

This is a pleasant, quiet apartment on the ground floor of a home set in tropical forest 20 minutes south of Hilo within a few miles of lava rock bluffs providing breathtaking ocean views of the Big Island’s east coast. The private lanai, our host’s, Mary’s, aloha infused attention and the daily visits by her cats made for one of the most relaxing visits we’ve ever made to the islands. This is a great non-touristy, no frills base for exploring the many sites of the island of Hawaii. We have lived in and visited Hawaii going back 40 years - this was one of our most enjoyable stays.
