A new security system looks out onto the grounds and street beyond. No cameras see the house or lanai.
The house has an unusual configuration. The back two bedrooms, each with their own bathroom and A/C, are accessed from the covered lanai, and therefore have their own entrances. We enjoyed this unique property, surrounded by nature and wildlife. It is perfect for families with older children.
The home is located across the street from a beach park, with additional parks a short walk away. Downtown Hilo is a short drive. This location was perfect for us. The parks offered sea turtles, swimming and snorkeling opportunities, and a great view of Hawaiian life. The home itself was clean and offered all of the amenities we needed. Two of the bedrooms are accessed from doors off the wraparound deck/porch and lock individually. This provided privacy four our two older (young adult) children. Each bedroom in the home has its own bathroom as well. The pond in front offered Kai the koi fish and attracted other wildlife, which was fun to watch.Certain basic groceries were present in the kitchen, which was very helpful as well. The homeowner was responsive and friendly.
Beautiful home in a fabulous location! Comfortable beds, AC in the bedrooms and Wi-Fi worked fine.lovely The spacious lanai was lovelyso that we could have pouring rain and sit in absolute comfort, looking at the ocean waves. Great beaches to swim and snorkel and play within walking distance and a very short drive to the Hilo airport. We loved watching Kai the Koi in the pond and enjoying the incredible pleasure of staying at this home! The host was extremely helpful and we had everything we needed! I may have also fallen in love with the walk-in shower: big and beautiful with instant hot water! We all love the place. The street in front of the house is busy and there are folks who party on nearby beaches. So if quiet is essential for you, then this location could be problematic. For us, it met our needs perfectly and we highly recommend it!!!
This was the perfect house for the 4 of us. The location is very close to the park and beaches. The kids enjoyed their private bed and bath. We all very much enjoyed the porch to watch the ocean overlooking the pond with the koi. So relaxing! The owner was also fantastic. Our questions were answered almost immediately! Thank you so much!
We enjoyed our stay at this home in Hilo. Staying in Hilo saved us a lot of drive time when exploring Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea, and all the beautiful waterfalls in the area. Just walk across the street to enjoy the some amazing beaches. The house was beautifully updated; every bathroom was amazing. The layout worked great, giving our adult children some privacy. Our family enjoyed sitting around the large dining table on the patio in the evenings and spending an afternoon watching the locals "cruise" the street in front of the house. The street noise mostly ended at night, but sleeping with a sound machine canceled out any lingering noise. It was also fun to watch the ponds rise and fall with the tide. I would definitely recommend this rental.
Nice taste of the big Island!
Loved it my keiki enjoyed it worth coming back againMahalo nui
Loved this property. They did an amazing remodel recently and it was top notch. I can’t say enough good things about this property. Loved loved loved it.
Good location across the street from snorkeling. Well equipped house. Back two bedrooms smell musty just spite they’re being air purifiers. House was not as clean as we would’ve expected and could use some maintenance.
Gorgeous home. Perfect for Hilo. Recommend trying it out!
I’d rate this vacation rental a 8.5 out of 10. The good points - Large master bedroom and large en suite. The other 2 large bedrooms each have their own en suites. But each are accessed through exterior doors. All 3 bedrooms have their own AC unit which made it very comfortable to sleep. This property is an easy drive to Volcano National Park. Beautiful front lanai with gorgeous partial view of the ocean across the street, perfect for morning coffee or reading a book. Short walk to Richardson Beach. Short drive to downtown Hilo and supermarket/restaurants. Negative points - loud street noise from “cruising” vehicles on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Outside dining only so must use bug spray. No AC in living room and kitchen but I should have left the master bedroom door open and used a fan to cool off the common area.
We had a wonderful stay! The house was beautiful. The kitchen was well equipped. The grounds were so pretty. We saw turtles in the ocean right across the street. Our group was 6 adults(3 couples) and there was plenty of room for us to be together or to have a quiet spot. Highly recommend this place. Pepe our host was easy to contact.
Great stay for 6 adults. Close to downtown Hilo.
We had a wonderful stay at Pepe’s place during Labor Day weekend while attending a volleyball tournament in Hilo for our high school daughter. The property is absolutely gorgeous and exudes a serene, zen-like atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the lovely ponds and watching the koi swim gracefully. The location was perfect for us—each morning, we took a short walk across the street to enjoy the beautiful beaches and lagoons. The house was well-equipped for our five-day stay, and the AC units in the bedrooms kept us comfortably cool at night, ensuring a great night's sleep. Traveling with our young adult kids (ages 18-20), we appreciated the two separate bedrooms and bathrooms apart from the main house. It offered them a bit more privacy, which they really enjoyed. One thing to note is that the street can get busy in the afternoons and evenings, as people cruise the strip. The nearby beach also becomes quite lively with locals enjoying their time and playing music. We ended up making some new friends and even shared a few beers with the locals, which added a fun, spontaneous element to our trip! Overall, Pepe’s place was a fantastic choice for our stay, and we highly recommend it.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. There were several different areas for us to hang out, separately or together. I absolutely loved the front porch area, which had a view of the ocean. We also enjoyed the pond in the front’s front, complete with resident koi. One of us even had a swim in it! Order was very responsive with email queries prior to arrival.
We've stayed here before and it never disappoints. Clean, spacious, and great for families.
This is one of the most beautiful properties we’ve ever stayed at with unique tile and comfortable beds and lots of outside spaces. I really appreciated leftover items from previous guests in kitchen although I didn’t use much. Too many properties we stay in don’t even have salt and pepper! We were 6 adults so bedrooms with outside entrances were great. I think the ponds would be a bit scary for me when my kids were under 5-6. Black sand beach is a short walk up the road. Pools estuary pools that lots of families were using were right across the street. Birds and ocean and pools made sitting outside very nice. Only negative is that local teenagers parked and played music loudly pretty often. Mostly that stopped by about 9:00 pm. Of course that is not something owners can control. Area and Hilo as a whole is not very touristy-mostly local families. Loved shaved ice by farmers market, Lyman museum is a hidden gem. Planetarium was not as good as expected. Banyan street and coconut island were better than expected.
the property was very clean. we have been to Hawaii the last 4 years and this is by far the best place we have stayed in. The pictures on VRBO are just like the place looks.
GREAT HOUSE
The property is well maintained, clean and as advertised. Note that the ice maker was nonfunctional and my text asking whether there might be ice trays we could use was answered informing me that I could buy ice in town. Uncertain whether every weekend is like this but the scene on the road out front was a bit much with locals racing by and burning rubber for much of the day. We were amazed to not see a single cop car go buy despite the scene.
What an incredible find. We walked across the street every day to Hilo beaches to watch the waves. Take binoculars - most days we sat and watched humpback whales. Breathtaking! A short drive south and we watched dolphins. Hilo doesn't have much in the way of sandy beaches but these crashing waves on rock are fantastic. The house itself appears very newly renovated with high end appliances and fixtures. Pepe was very responsive. The property is heavenly; rain-forest foliage and ponds with decks front and back. Lots of birds and surprisingly few bugs. Lots of good restaurants and shopping minutes away. Don't miss the Farmers' Market. We were four seniors and enjoyed hanging out at the house and beach. Nearly perfect! Only one caveat - and not the owner's fault - the street in front of the house is the go-to strip for young men revving obnoxiously loud cars and speakers and burning rubber on Friday and Saturday nights. A shame, as peaceful weekend evenings on the deck were the price. Plan a restaurant meal on those nights.
