Opened for guests in 2010, the original HULILI FARM COTTAGE (pronounced who-lee-lee) has welcomed so many wonderful guests that it became time to enable more people to enjoy the farm. Please check out our Pineapple Cottage listing (#1355789) to see which cottage best suits your needs.
Guests rave about the 'SWEEPING, UNSPOILED, TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY VIEW' in every direction! The sun and moon rise over the ocean as you watch the wonders unfold from your comfy rocking chair OR swinging bed on the lanai. Birdsong is the beautiful sound track on this private farm located at the end of a dead end country road. Relax as you walk through the orchards and please, sample the fruit...that's when it is best!
The COTTAGE is bright, clean, and furnished with all you will need. The 'BAMBOO SLEEPING CHAMBER' offers a KING size 'sleep number' bed with dual controls for firmness. A FULL size futon is inside, and outside on the LANAI is the QUEEN size 'HANGING BED'. (This bed has become a favorite with our guests, who sleep, nap, read and talk while swaying in the breeze, taking in the beauty.) Walk-in shower and pedestal sink in the cottage bath. Laundry facilities, with all supplies, are available for our guests and just steps away from the cottage.
A huge AVOCADO tree hugs the patio next to the lanai. We have named her, MS. CADDO. You may taste her fruits in season and almost always there will be a stalk of 'apple' bananas hanging from her branches. Bring some groceries and you are ready to settle in.
We encourage you to take the time to read our GUEST COMMENTS. They paint a true picture of their stay at Hulili Farm. Here is seclusion, peace and quiet on a tropical farm 'paradise'.
The ultimate guidebook: 'HAWAII, THE BIG ISLAND REVEALED' is in the cottage for your use while exploring.
While most guests come to the farm to get away from their busy lives, for those who still want to maintain some connection, we have recently updated our internet and now offer fiber-internet on the farm. But we won’t tell your boss that!
Have fun!
Our Aloha,
Todd and Madeleine

Madeleine was a superb host, very responsive and friendly. Hululi Farm is a special place, calm and peaceful. The lanai with its spectacular views was our favorite.
The hosts are great and the accommodations are truly amazing! If you like staying off the beaten path then this is for you. Private, well maintained, central to roads for travel around the island, and numerous fresh, fantastic tasting organic fruit:). Thus is my second time staying and would most certainly return if Hawaii calls again.
Quiet, end of the road, fruit farm. Most of the time you could only hear birds and frogs. Occasionally there was some farm equipment noise and mowing. Very safe. Owners live behind and there are other cottages on the property, but it is all arranged so you feel like you are the only one there. Easy drive to many things to see. Clean and comfortable. Friendly owners respected my privacy.
Everything was amazing! Ginger cottage was adorable and perfect for our family of 4, everyone was extremely kind and it was wonderful to be able to rome around the property. My 4 yr old loved runing down to the longan orchard everyday to eat until he was sticky. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place or kinder hosts!
Friendly and sociable hosts always checked on us. Advised us before arriving too.
This was one of the best places we’ve stayed at. Madeline is an amazing host but really if you’re looking for a quiet, beautiful place to enjoy, this is the place. Views in the morning were spectacular. Unbelievably quiet (minus the frogs). Make sure to follow the directions provided and you’ll have no hard time finding the place. If we ever make it back to the big island we will definitely be staying there again!! Thank you Madeline and family for the great stay!
This was a great place to stay to enjoy the Hilo side of the Big Island. Sitting on the patio enjoying morning coffee or an evening meal were the favorite moments of our stay. The owners are kind and giving hosts and proud to share the bounties of their farm.
What a beautiful location and farm. So peaceful and a fantastic place to decompress. Matter of fact we spent a very enjoyable day on the lanai. The cottage had all the amenities we needed, a real kitchen, the bed was very comfortable, there’s a washer and dryer there, as well as snorkeling and beach gear available for use! We highly recommend this place and would stay again 3 easy check in/out, nice hosts. Farm is about 30 minutes from Hilo.
Located in a farming/orchard/ranching area in the rain forest side of the Big Island. Most properties in the area are working farms with families and acreage, so expect to experience the daily activity of farm life. The cottage we stayed in was an extension of the main house, separated by a covered garage port. The family are great hosts, quiet and mindful of guest privacy. The view from the covered lanai out over the orchard and ocean is spectacular and peaceful, and we spent much of our time there. The living quarters were adequate and nice, but not new or updated if that matters. There is a shared off site laundry that was fine. The only thing I would warn about is that there is no air conditioning. A ceiling fan and a floor fan with open windows works well for most days. We had a run of 3 hot steamy, rainy nights that were difficult to sleep through for us cold climate visitors. The location is about 20-25 minutes drive from Hilo and any significant services and restaurants, but the full kitchen, fridge and eating area allows for food prep and dining. The region has some great attractions, a couple of spectacular waterfalls nearby, and the fabulous Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden and parks with beaches and snorkeling when the seas are calm enough. Within 45-60 minutes, you can get to several Farmers Markets, Hilo, Waimea, Saddle Road volcanic parks and hiking trails and quaint small town districts. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would come back again on future visits.
Absolutely a beautiful view with a walking area to see so many beautiful trees, flowers and fruit!
The views and peacefulness of the Hulili Farm were perfect after running around vacationing all day!
Hulili farm was a perfect home base during our week-long visit to the big island. We enjoyed the super-comfy bed in the ginger cottage - gorgeous grounds and peaceful ocean view. Bonus - fresh avocados from the tree right outside the cottage! The farm location on the rainforest eastern side of the island worked well for us - a 30 min drive to Hilo, and hour to Volcano National park, and one hour to the Mauna Kea visitor center.
We found so much peace and tranquility staying here. Our cabin had everything we needed. The bed was SO comfortable! The sights and sounds were incredible. We will definitely be back!
The location is secluded with beautiful views of the ocean. The cottage is perfect for 2-4 guests. Has everything you will need. Easy driving to beaches, volcano NP and to Hilo. The lanai is a great place for morning coffee and evening drinks. Watch sunrise and sunset. Hosts are very helpful and have great suggestions for day trips. Would definitely stay again.
My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and it was perfect. The views from the lanai are EVEN BETTER than the pictures. Seriously, you can’t find views like that anywhere else on the Big Island. The VRBO was excellent, cozy with everything you could possibly need. Especially appreciated the little touches such as a fully stocked kitchen to cook to your heart’s content, a cooler we could use while exploring the island, coffee and tea, and fresh baked goods upon arrival. The VRBO is in an excellent location for exploring the Hilo side of the Big Island, and was the perfect place to come back to after a day of adventuring and relax out on the lanai. Walking around the farm grounds is a real treat in itself. Can’t recommend enough!
All the photos, descriptions from host, and ratings from former guests are spot on. The views are fantastic! The cottage is roomy, well appointed, and quite comfortable. It’s a convenient location. Can’t wait to book our next stay!
We had a wonderful time at Hulili. Would definitely stay again.
Great relaxing farm out of the tourist hustle and bustle with a wonderful view down to the Pacific. Plus birds out in the fields.
Stayed in a country farm like setting. Communication was good
We wanted to spend some time on the lush green side of the island and this location didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed mornings and evenings on the lanai, listening to the sounds of nature. At first I was shocked by the loud frogs but they have their charm, and the hum of fans drowned them out when it was time to sleep. We enjoyed exploring the East island and we appreciated the host’s recommendations for day trips in the welcome booklet. The farm is lovely, as were the sunrises. Definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to be outside the city and close to nature. It’s about a 20 minute drive into Hilo but well worth it. Felt like our own private Hawai’i!
This location is located in a very beautiful iconic countryside of the big island of Hawaii. My girls were very excited about what we were staying at. The views are amazing. Your living in nature well enjoying in comforts of home. The hosts were very friendly. They even brought us over some fresh cut apple bananas and hung them from the avocado tree for us. When we come back we will definitely be booking here again. I would like to thank the host for sharing their beautiful country home with us.
This place have amazing views, is very peaceful and overall beautiful. Love to just walk around and eat fruit from the trees.
Great property! Everything was just as we expected. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. Close to many great spots to see. Very peaceful and quiet!!
This is a great place to stay to get away from it all! Close enough to Hilo to get back into the all of you want. We also wound up driving north around the island to the west side a bit more than towards Hilo. Just sitting on the porch and looking out at the sky & ocean was so peaceful. Wish we had better weather. Got 1.5 sunrises and one night starry sky out of 7 nights but, that was only the fault of Mother Nature. Still so peaceful in the rain. The cottage itself is fine for two people, tho I can’t imagine a third person being comfortable. The only thing I did not know about before booking from reading reviews, was that the ginger cottage was right next to the main house. Not sharing a wall, but a car port. They have tried to do a good job separating it and noise was only an issue a few times, we did not even bring it up since it was my fault for possibly not asking that question before booking. As I saw nothing about it being so close to the main house in reviews. And many other places we looked at it was a very obvious. The pineapple cottage is a bit more on its own. I would probably book that one next time. Great hosts! Thank you again.
Short drive from town, hosts were wonderful sharing some great suggestions for visiting. This property is not your typical vacation spot, perfect for couples or those that don't want a lot of other tourists. You can come & go as you please. Loved our stay!!
We loved staying at Hulili Tropical Fruit Farm! The property is beautiful and our hosts were warm and hospitable. The cottage was simply perfect for our long weekend getaway.
Thank you Todd and Madeline for the most relaxing and beautiful five days on the big island. It has been so nice to spend each morning and evening sitting in these rocking chairs watching the orchards and oceans. We have slept great on your comfy bed each night. You are such a sweet, friendly, hard-working family, and it has been a pleasure meeting you both, the kids, the dogs, and, the neighbors duck. We have been adventuring nonstop doing amazing activities for four days. Today, the last day, we wanted to spend it here on the lanai, best day ever! Thank you for an 40th anniversary trip we will never forget. Also, thank you for the muffins, the delicious eggs and the avocados. The last night we stayed up the latest and we watched the most amazing stars from the lanai. It was like being at a planetarium; we ended with a bang. Thank you again, the Greers. PS — The cottage is so much larger than the pictures show, we were also surprised by the huge wardrobe and dresser space. It helped as spread out and feel at home instead of living out of a suitcase. Perfect setup!
Off the beaten path but able to readily access the sites of Hilo, Volcanoes NP, Puna and the Hamakua Coast. If you want to enjoy a little bit of rural Hawaii, this is a great place to stay.
Madeleine has created a private retreat on her farm. The property was well-equipped and super clean. We enjoyed sleeping on the lanai on the bed that is suspended from the ceiling. The location is good for exploring the Hamakua coast. We also were happy to chill out on the farm and enjoy the view.
We really enjoyed our time here on the farm and it was calming and relaxing. Would stay here again for sure.
My wife and I couldn't have been more happy with the hosts and the property. Everything was very well kept and the farm has some of the best sunrises we've seen. Would highly recommend!
We love staying here! It is quiet, peaceful and has an awesome view! A great place to have some downtime. For those who want to explore the island a bit it’s a great location. Out in the country but not that far away to explore restaurants and shopping. We have stayed here multiple times and always are sad to leave!
Very neat and tidy cottage, friendly hosts and dogs. Our family had a wonderful time!
Amazing location with beautiful view and everything else we needed. Hosts were very gracious and accommodating. Will definitely return!
