This is a fun opportunity to learn this core technique for creating a fresh Ti leave rope and talk story with our local cultural expert. And you’ll have fresh Ti leaf bracelet for your self or a special someone when your finished.
Itinerary
Ti leaf bracelet making is a one-hour, hands-on experience. Begins at 1:00pm
You will join us at our Cultural Activities Center. Check in with our front desk. We'll have tables, seating and supplies ready for you and your party.
Arrive early and peruse our 3 galleries featuring exhibits of costumes representing the history of the migrations to Hawai’i’ influence on dance, music and costumes.
After introductions, our expert will teach you the traditional technique for turning Ti leaves into a rope bracelet.
You’ll start with the history of the Ti plant, its importance and use in Hawaiian culture.
Then you’ll learn how Ti leaves are prepared, to them ready to braid.
You’ll learn the basic technique for creating Ti leaf rope and then complete a bracelet for yourself or someone special.
As the technique requires finesse and hand coordination this activity is recommended for ages 8 and above.
