Explore the vastness of one of Maui’s most iconic landmarks with a hike at Haleakala Crater. Experience the ethereal energy of the national park as you traverse the 4-mile (6.4-meter) hike, which covers a lava trail lined with rare native plant species as well as expansive desert-like scenery. Travel more than 10,000 feet (3,048-meters) above sea level and enjoy the natural beauty of Maui.
Itinerary
Hike one mile down and back up Sliding Sands Trail which begins at the 10,023 foot summit of Haleakala Crater. Next hike one mile down and back up Halemau'u Trail which begins at 8000 feet elevation (weather permitting).

The Park & Ride meeting location is along a large concrete wall with a single row of parking facing Hwy 380 west of Hwy 311 just before entering Kahului.
