Located on the island of Kaua'i, in this unique hands-on experience, guests will get to first learn the history and art of Fireknife Dancing, learn the basic moves and see a full demonstration.
Itinerary
Aloha! My name is Pomaikaʻi, and I’m a Polynesian performer born and raised here on Kauaʻi. I’ve been dancing Fireknife for over 15 years and have performed in many of the top luaus across the island. Now, I’m excited to share this powerful and beautiful tradition with you in an up-close, hands-on experience.
We’ll start with a brief talk-story session about the origins and meaning of Fireknife dancing in Samoan culture. Then I’ll teach you basic movements using a practice stick—spins, footwork, and simple combos—no experience necessary! I’ll also do a short live demo, and if you feel ready, you’ll even get a chance to try a real fireknife (safely and under my guidance, of course).
What’s included:
-Personal instruction and cultural background
-Practice tools and a guided opportunity to use a real fireknife
What to bring:
-Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes
-Water bottle
-A willingness to move and try something new
Good to know:
-This is a workshop, not a luau or show
-We need at least 4 guests for the session to run—otherwise, I’ll offer to reschedule or issue a full refund.
