Pretty much what I expected. I have been coming to Waikiki since I was 18 years old and have been there probably 25 times now. I have stayed at most of the major hotels, Outrigger , Royal, Moana, Hyatt, Marriot, Sherriton and some of the lower rent spots when just dropping in for a weekend surf session without the family.. I wanted to try something a lttke out of the way but still in the surf zone. The room was basic but comfortable and I appreciated the view of the zoo. Really the only green zone in Waikiki. Hulas bar really is feet from the door which is great for a cheap happy hour Mai Tai but a little loud when the drunks get out at the end of the night. Overall I got the vibe of what it might be like to have a little crash pad of my own and felt like I got that and it was refreshing not to be in the middle of the human soup in the center of the tourist zone where I could try new places to eat and chill with a more local vibe and better prices. If you are familiar with Waikiki and looking for a place to crash for a surfing trip and don’t need a luxury hotel with an ocean view this is pretty good for the price.
While the location was great and it was next to a bar, the room smelled of mold. You could actually see mold flaking off the grout outside and inside the bathroom. An office chair was provided and the arm rest kept falling to the floor, the floor was super grimy and holes in the tiles filled in with glue, an AC Unit was very large and blocked room on the one side of the bed. The window had no screen and there was a fall risk for anyone leaning out. Electrical extensions cords obstructed the pathway near the bed as well. The refrigerator, microwave, lamp, router were all running off one surge protector and it took a long time to get them working as the connection was weak. None of these devices were working when we arrived and we have to play around with the electrical cords to get it all working. Dirty walls, dirty paint, just disgusting! the Kerig machine was old, seldom used as the coffee tasted awful. Ran water through it and the water line produced a yellow color. Disgusting! I have pictures showing all. Never ever stay here in this disgusting "hookup" room.
My husband and I had an amazing time in Waikiki! This hotel is perfectly located with anything you need nearby and beautiful nature right in front of the hotel. We stayed in the Hula's Hideaway, which is on the ground floor next to the bar. There was a fire alarm that went off our first three nights there, lots of street noise, and of course noisy customers going to the bar. The room itself was sort of comfortable besides the AC, which was right next to the bed. In our welcome emails from Mark Howard, we were supposed to have received two free drinks upon arrival, however the front desk staff didn't know anything about this. After some back and forth, they gave it to us anyway, but there should have been better communication from Vrbo about our arrival, what was offered to us and our expectations.
Again, the views and the location of the hotel were spectacular, but we wish we had a different room where we could have slept better!
Right near the zoo. Makes parking easy if you need it. Steps to ocean and a Starbucks. Not to mention the oldest best welcoming bar in Waikiki. Hulas
Good place to stay if you’re out and about all day and just need a place to sleep. Felt pretty safe for the most part!

What a great location this property happens to be at. Everything was very clean, and the front desk could not have been friendlier. I was actually on the 2nd floor, which maybe some of the other reviews reported that there is a dance club/bar located coincidently right across the hall. Be aware. There IS A DANCE CLUB. So, if that isn't your thing, take that into consideration before choosing.
Great place for solo or a couple! Closer to the beach and many bars restaurants the bar next to the room it’s soo quiet so you don’t even feel it. Very safe area and great night life around
The location of this rental is awesome! It’s at the tourist-end of Waikiki and right around the corner from the main drag. There are restaurants and shops all around, so anything you’ve forgotten or want to buy is available.
The room is small, as described. We had two large suitcases and it made the room cramped. Good news, though… we weren’t in Hawaii to hang out in our room! The small area for hanging clothes was really helpful. The bathroom is due for a serious update - the bathtub and curtain were a little dirty. The walls are soooo stained, we thought the room had mold in the walls. The room has a window AC unit, which is only fantastic because it drowns out just a hint of the noise coming from Hula’s. We knew the room was close to the bar and expected some noise; the listing advises that you can get cocktails until 2am; what it doesn’t advise is that the patrons from the bar will be in the hallway, talking loudly and/or yelling from about 11:30pm to 2:30am. It’s like when the party ends inside the bar, it makes its way to the hallway. Since the room is directly across from the bar entrance (and when I say directly, I’m talking a mere 20+ steps), it’s extremely disruptive when you’re hoping for a good nights sleep. Just be aware of this, so if you’re looking for a quiet spot to end your evening, this is not it.

The parking garage is steep to enter and exit, but great to have a safe and secure (gated) parking option if you’re renting a car (rent a car!! There’s so much island to see outside of Waikiki!!). The location of the hotel is in a busy area and the parking garage kept us from driving around all night looking for a spot. It’s also assigned parking, so no matter what time you return, your spot awaits you!
The view from the 10th floor was awesome! The front desk staff was kind and courteous. All in all, a great spot for Waikiki.
We waited for the room availability at Hula's down the hall - what a treat! Great view of Kapiolani Park and beachgoers! Nicest staff at Hula's!
Tge room was just fine for frequent, easy excursions to the beach and all the busses to the Island.
The best of Waikiki without the $$$$ and crowds.
Overall we had a nice stay.
Mark was the best to work with. Room was cozy and air conditioning was so nice on our hot days. Would rent again!
I had a fantastic experience here! The location is unbelievable, the unit was very clean, and the staff at the hotel were extremely friendly. Only thing was that parking was kind of a pain (they were full at the hotel so I needed to constantly move my car between the Zoo parking lot and the street) and the sound from Hula’s across the hall on the weekends was a bit loud but nothing out of hand. Highly recommend this property for your stay in Waikiki!!
This was not the property I booked (host double booked so I got moved here). I was originally upset because I didn’t have the ocean view like the one I booked, but ended up loving this location! Front desk crew was friendly, it’s walking distance to all the shops, & around the corner from the beach!
For the bad - the dirty qtip mentioned in a prior review was still on the router, tiny ants are constantly coming up from bathroom drain & all over the counter, hotel does not provide laundry/trash services (you need to do this all yourself) or toilet paper so if you run out you need to go to the ABC Store. I’d also think for the double booking mixup, the host would have followed up to see how things were, but I never heard from him.
Pros:
-Affordable
- Great location (close to beach, other bars and zoo etc)
- Snorkeling gear, boogie boards and beach towels included
- Bar right across hallway
-Convenient key code entry, no need to worry about carrying or losing key
-Masks required but not really enforced by staff which was nice.
-Fridge was a decent size and even had small freezer.
-Massage services offered, although I never looked into it myself.
Cons:
-WIFI provided was not detected on phone. Not sure if too far away from router or what.
- 1 of 2 boogie boards was broken
-Snorkeling gear did not look clean and there was sand in drawer that held Snorkeling gear
-Plastic dresser which held Snorkeling gear did not look clean all around in general.
- Bar across hallway was gay Bar. Could be a good thing if you're gay. I checked it out once it was cool but still would have preferred regular Bar.
-Noisy at night since bar is right across room and it echoes in room.
-Did not look as nice as in the photos. Certain furnishings surfaces and parts of walls did not look clean. Good size chips on multiple places on tile floor.
-First towel I pulled to use for showering had a small wad of long hair on it. Second towel I used had some sort of small blood droplet looking stains.
-Shower head wasn't the worst but was not impressive either.
-Window did not have a screen.
-Pool area seemed small and uneventful, never saw anybody there.
-Air conditioning unit kind of loud. Especially if it was on eco mode and is constantly turning off and on.
