I really wanted to love this place. It looks so cute in the pictures and it is except the current company that is overseeing. The property is not great with communication. It took them over two weeks to get back to me about a change in the dates I change them the day after I reserve them. When we got there, the place was closed up and smelled like nobody had been there in a while. The gas oven and cooktop did not work. The ice machine in the freezer was broken. The washing machine smelled so bad even after vinegar bleach and some special cleaning solution it still smelled, but that wasn’t the worst part. It was the bugs a lot of blister beetles, and no Sims, also known as Sand fleece which I’m allergic to when I sent them the picture of my bites. They told me it was mosquito bites and where mosquito repellent a very nice gentleman came out and fixed the gas cooktop and oven. Next day oven would not light. I knew it would be warm, but usually you can open the windows and doors and have a nice breeze. In this case. The doors did not have Screens and the attached back lanai also did not have screens which meant the master that was separate from the main house, but attached to the lanai was really hot. We were afraid to open the door because we had so many bugs we ended up leaving early. It was too much. I hope the owners read this and change companies. To owner: Screen back lanai, & front door. Debug! New washer, fix gas oven & ice maker & new lawn service dead palms everywhere!
I love the neighborhood and the house itself was very cute.
Could not get in on check in day…could not connect with Vacasa for code to enter. Waiting for refund for one night…did not get in until Monday morning. Not happy that we could not connect with Vacasa on Sunday night to get in. Don’t you have people working on Sunday night? 22 min on hold 1 tiWe did not get in the 1st night …did not get code from Vacasa…tried to contact them many times. No response. Very angry! Hard to stay elsewhere here…got in at 8 am the next morning. NOT GOOD!
Very nice place with many nice features. As advertised it could be tranquil. The lanai is very nicely done, and the separate King bedroom is also very nice. The kitchen is very functional and other than a couple of things that have issues, it was very nice. If you plan to arrive after sunset, bring a flash light because no indoor or outdoor lights are on, so actually getting in is difficult. Our stay was really more like a 2 star because of a major feral pig issue. Starting on the second night feral pigs invaded the property and were fighting and digging up the front and back of the property. The second last night a group with dogs came in and after around 2AM things settled down some what. The dogs still barked at all hours (we were told the dogs were barking because of the pigs). If that issue goes away, and the dogs also settle down, then the setting would be lovely. So I gave it a 4 star rating even though our stay was a 2 star.
We’ve visited this property several times now. We love it everytime the beautiful lush green trees in back give you that jungle vibe. The sounds of the
coqui and other animals is actually sp calming to my spirit. Weve had many family dinners or played board games out on the lanai. Take a breathtaking drive up the road and find secret spots with palm trees and crashing ocean waves!
Great place to be away from all the tourism. Great site seeing. Only a couple issues. Tried to preheat the oven, opened after about 8 minutes and almost past out from the gas. I did not preheat. Make sure you get to the property during the day or you most likely won’t be able to find it.
Not the cleanest. Geckos inside were cute but their feces on the walls wasn't. Slow wi-fi. The two bedrooms are in separate buildings, connected by a covered area that is not screened in...not ideal for our little kids. Loud neighbors partying until 3am kept us up. We left 2 days early.
We loved the house and the location. The only thing we didn't like was the check-in. The code that was given didn't work and when I called the Vacasa number, I had to go through a phone tree to finally talk to someone who was then reading script from a computer and had to troubleshoot, with me on the phone. Once we were inside, we found that one of the bedroom doors was locked and it needed a separate key. There was no mention of this in the check-in directions, no mention of it in the house binder. I had to call Vacasa AGAIN, go through the one tree, wait on hold, until they came back with no answer. I finally found the key to the bedroom hanging in the kitchen, but directions to it would have been ideal. VERY frustrating when we were tired and hungry and wanting to settle in. I wouldn't rent from a VACASA property again.
This place has everything you need! A black sand beach within a 5-minute walk, privacy, wildlife, island living, and great amenities if you pack light and don't like to eat out.
I went on a solo trip to get away from the main land and city life. I needed to submerge into nature, and this place is about nature. Coqui frogs at night, live-in geckos, chickens roaming around, and maybe some pigs sniffing out bugs (not certain, but thought I heard them in the yard at night and saw tracks in the morning).
Then there is the beach! The water is invigorating! The black sand is mesmerizing! And the tropical trees and cliffs provide natural shade when you want out of the sun.
My favorite day was Sunday. It was busy with locals, and in the afternoon some people came with instruments and started playing music. The people are friendly and kind and curious. And they are so easy to chat with if you are looking for some human connection, which I was since I was alone all week.
Also, please check out the Farmers Market on Saturday morning on the lava in Kalapana. It's a quick 5-minute drive south of the house. There is great Thai food cooked right there, and fresh guava juice. Also, the locals can tell you about how life has changed in that area due to the 2018 eruption.
The last thing I will say is the location is great for traveling around the east side of the island, like Hilo and Volcano. It was such a nice spot to return to after a day of hiking or scuba diving.
Lovely oasis! The lanai is very nice, feeling like it's up in the trees.
No a/c, and the area was pretty warm when we were there, but the fans and airflow helped a lot. The house had good airflow and fans, and is nicely appointed.
We enjoyed cooking here as well, and dinners out on the lanai were great.
